GHIII: Linkin Park, Mastadon and holiday cheer DLC

Releasing to the XBLM just in time for the holidays will be a new Guitar Hero III track pack as well as European singles and a free holiday download.

Scheduled for release sometime in December is a "Warner/Reprise Track Pack " which will include master recordings of "No More Sorrow" by Linkin Park, "Sleeping Giant" by Mastadon and "Pretty Handsome Awkward" by The Used. Also releasing will be single track downloads from various European bands including "So Payaso" by Extremoduro, "Antisocial" by Trust and "Ernten Was Wir Säen" by Die Fantastischen Vier. And as if that wasn't enough GHIII DLC, Activision will be releasing a free "We Three Kings" holiday track recorded by Steve Ouimette too. Again, no specific release date has been announced or pricing details for the track pack or singles. But we do have a fancy press release posted after the break.

Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock Set List Expansion Also to Include Hit European Singles, Free Rock Rendition of Christmas Classic

SUNNYVALE, CA – December 14, 2007 – Master recordings from Warner/Reprise artists Linkin Park, Mastadon and The Used will be available as a downloadable track pack for Activision, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, during the month of December. Additionally, Activision will offer single song downloads from such popular European bands as Extremoduro, Trust and Die Fantastischen Vier, as well as a free, exclusive rock rendition of the holiday classic "We Three Kings," recorded by Steve Ouimette. The Warner/Reprise Track Pack, single song downloads, and free holiday classic will be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

The Warner/Reprise Track Pack includes master recordings of "No More Sorrow," by Linkin Park, "Sleeping Giant," by Mastadon and "Pretty Handsome Awkward," by The Used. The single song downloads offer such popular singles as "So Payaso," from Extremoduro, "Antisocial" from Trust, and "Ernten Was Wir Säen" from Die Fantastischen Vier.

After downloading the new tracks, Guitar Hero® fans are encouraged to visit www.guitarhero.com to enter fret-bending competitions with the opportunity to win various prizes.

Mastodon is a definition of what metal is man. I woudln't know what is from MTV though since I haven't watched that channel since Beavis & Butthead were on the air.

So everyone tells me :S I can't see it myself. For me, it's bands like Amon Amarth, Death, Obituary, Slayer, Kreator and of course Black Sabbath that personify metal. Each to their own and such.

I wouldn't really call Black Sabboth metal today, though they really did define how metal is today. I always lumped them in with classic rock. Then again I love classic rock/heavy rock and that is more of an honor from me than anything else. Not that Black Sabath is really that old but it is a defining band and therefore I give the honor of being called a classic. I would say Iron Maiden and Judas Priest were a little more metal than Black Sabath. Hrm then again I guess they did help start the metal movement.

People often lump Kiss, Black Sabath, Motley Crue, Metallica, System of a Down, and AC/DC into one category and call them metal. That couldn't be further from the truth I think, they're all very different sounds. Infact I wouldn't even consider Kiss, Motley Crue, or System of a Down to be involved in this genre at all. Kiss certainly had the spirit of metal (the clothes, stage setup, explosions) but my god did they sound like pansies when they got on stage.

Maybe I overspoke saying they defnie metal, but they are one of my favorite more recent metal bands.

Eh but honestly the trasition from hard rock to metal and all of it's bastardized off-spring is really hard to define I think. But just don't discredit Mastodon as a metal band, just maybe not the type of metal you like.

I personally love nearly any type of metal (save a few extremes). Hopefully there are more metal tracks catering to a wider style of metal like heavy(the classic stuff), death(not sure how to describe but bands like Slayer are an early example I suppose), thrash(more Megadeth, Pantera or Exodus style), or melodic(not usually my style so can't think of any).

Also I don't have Guitar Hero III or Rock Band but my ladyfriend asked for it for Christmas so I figured I would get it for the 360 instead of the Wii so I could give it a whirl if I felt like it since I've never played a Guitar Hero before.

GH3 fucking blows. Sure, Rock Band has fallout boy, but that song's tolerable. Linkin Park? The Used? MASTODON?!

Get this fucking radioshit out of here.

I thought it was Legends of ROCK not Legends of Emo-Punk :) When are they going to upload "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana? Then again it'll probably be like 300 M$ Points since it's far more popular than any other so far.We already bought the f-ing console. What's wrong with some free content? (free non-marketing content, so demos and game trailers don't count)

I coudn't agree more about the LP and Used comments, but anyone who thinks Mastodon are "a gay power metal band" or "radioshit" has obviously got their blinkers on too tight to warrant any sort of respectable comment.

I wholeheartedly agree that 'Sleeping Giant' is a godawful track, but all pre-'Blood Mountain' Mastodon stuff is awesome. Power metal = ghey, prog metal = mint... get 'March of the fire ants' on GH3 and i'd buy it just for that!

oh and am I the only one worrying about the mis-spelling of Mastodon on the OFFICIAL press release?!

I appreciate that music's all taste and whatnot, but there are far more deserving bands/tracks that should be in GH3 while still appealing to quite a broad audience. The DLC mentioned is just boring.

i like the used and actually wanted this song in the game. my first time listening to it i thought it would be fun to play in GH...

Sleeping Giant by Mastadon is one of the best traditional metal songs released in the last 15-20 years.

The song could have came out in 1981 as easily as it came out in '06. When the delay riff comes in a 1:11 it's totally a throwback reference.

I would have rather had this song come out on Rock Band instead cause the drum breakdown in the final minute is just sick.

uhh lat time I checked mastodon weren't power metal they are prog. Power metal is like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Dragonforce and Primal Fear.

Oh btw Mastodon have not and probably will not be on radio like Linkin park is and imo Black Sabbath were/are still metal

I must admit, I was very let down by GHIII's song list. I'm sure I'm an old codger in comparison to most people who purchased this game. I was really sucked in by the game's name "Legends of Rock". I would think that the name legends should evoke (to most people) an idea of the literal LEGENDS of rock, not the current stars. Heck, they put Slash and KISS on the game's cover....I think the game's content didn't follow through on the name and cover graphic. How can come of these bands been "Legends" if they are fairly new bands?? I bet I didn't know but 70% of the songs in the main portion of the game. Not that the songs were bad, I'd just never heard of them or the artists.

I was MUCH more impressed with GHII's content. I guess I was looking for a little Led Zeppelin, Creedence, Jimi Hendrix, 38 Special, perhaps up even to the late 80s and early 90s. Again, I'm not saying that I hated the songs I didn't know, it's just that some of the really new stuff just wasn't my thing.....but then again....I said I was an old codger.

@ Leatherface - Mastodon owns! I've seen them live a few times and they rock pretty hard. However the bands you listed are definitely harder than Mastodon.

anyhow I wont' be getting the DLC since Rock Band is the way too go.

Linkin Park jams, sure the new cd isnt as good as the old stuff but its still good and No more Sorrow is a cool song for GHIII. Too bad for all you "METAL" heads out there I know this isnt what yall want. Maybe down the line??

Finally Linkin Park!!! I was hoping Rock Band would get some LP but at least one game gets it. And to all the people who are crying that they aren't metal...They are more famous than you will ever be, they play real music and make tons of money doing it. How's your music career going? Thats what I thought.

Jeez, everyone who's ripping on Mastodon has obviously never heard their music. They see them on a LABEL pack with Linkin Park and The Used, and assume they must be of the same genre.

CAPILLARIAN CREST should be released, and then it's game over.
