Make like Pelé with Wii Fit soccer
46
Soccer is the world's most popular sport, and we can see why -- in what other sport do a line of hydrocephalitic kids take turns throwing balls, shoes, and panda heads at your dome piece? We're just happy that the soccer mini-game included in the Wii Fit bundle is faithful to the sport, panda head dodgery and all.
However, we are somewhat concerned about the terrible score of the player in this video -- is this another example of game previewers being bad at their own games? Or is the balance board not as accurate as some gameplay videos make it look? We'll just have to find out when the chubbiness informer comes stateside early next year.

Wow... Seriously?
It's sad that this will most likely sell like hot cakes.

This time next year hotcake sales will be a thing of the past and the International Association of Making Up Sayings will coin the phrase, "Sell like Wiis".

It could just be bad syncing between the two videos.

Game looks fun. Win.
You are controlling the player's head by moving your weight? What did you expect. Obviously a mouse or a joystick would be more accurate in this kind of scenario... but it wouldn't be fun.
PS/ Only americans play "Soccer", whatever that it. The rest of the world plays Football and laughs at silly american stat driven sports.

Australia plays Soccer, as Australian rules football is the dominant sport because real men play it. No falling to the ground grabbing your shin or wearing a full body of armour (I'm looking at you Americans).

Actually, if only Americans play soccer, why is Pro Evolution Soccer the most popular football game in Europe??
Soccer's a british term too, man.

@ Z, no it's not. Here in England, football is football. We never call it soccer.
And we don't not buy games just because they're incorrectly named, when someone refers to it, they say "Want to play some Pro Evo?" or "Want to play some football on the ".

I'm not saying you use it there, but it did come originally come from the British... soccer wasn't a made up word because we hate you or something.
Now why American Football is football, you got me there.

She looks auful. By the end she's barely even moving, no wonder she sucks it up. They looked pretty responsive to me when she was doing well and actually trying at the begining...

I'm sure it is more responsive, it's just, yea... doesn't look all that fun. One would do it for a couple moments and then get tired of it... much like most Wii games that aren't Galaxy, Zelda, etc...

I'd like to see negative feedback from people who actually played it.

I like the progression of her actions. It seems pretty representative of the Wii games where they ask you to mimic realistic actions (wii sports). At first shes all in to it, doing the full head butty motion. Then once she realizes that its basically just shifting your weight a few pounds she is barely moving by the end.

Maybe by the end she has given up... or more likely she is dizzy from all the head banging done at the beginning.

She seems to just be moving her head most of the time.
That won't do anything!
The whole thing is about shifting body weight, not mimicking a headbutt, despite what the Mii on-screen does.

lol, I thought the same thing. The on-screen directions clearly showed how you apply weight to move from side to side, and there she was, standing straight, moving her head. :)
The worst part is, my wife will probably want that silly balance board... oh well.

That girl wasn't attractive at all. If they used Jade Raymond in the vid, though, I'd definitely be buying this. =P

I thought "football" was the most popular sport in the world, and that "soccer" was used primarily by 1 country.

Hell yeah! You can pack 30 to 40 of your friends in your living room, charge the TV, and crush a few of them dead in the process!
Now this is gaming!

Living in Japan I've been playing this for a couple of weeks. Rather than unresponsive, that woman wasn't putting her complete weight on one foot to get the angle necessary. You need to almost completely lift up the other foot to get the angle for some of the wide balls. Just lazy.

Well, what Nintendo noticed that many here failed to notice is the big smile on her face while she was playing. That's what makes people pay for video games.

Yeah, it's not how you win, it's how well you keep your cool when it's obvious that you suck.

It has already been explained somewhere else: your character moves to the side with the more weight. However, when moving to a side, people usually press harder on the opposite side with the foot (to give impulse for the move), making the Wii think you are moving to the other side. Yes, the game could have been better programmed for sure.

Finally... somebody who understands natural movement.
What still blows me away is that this thing is being sold as an exercise machine. Nobody is going to get a cardiovascular workout by making SUBTLE movements that won't cause the sensors to go berserk do to reactive forces and oscillation error.
Yeah, I know. The thing isn't selling because it's functional. What else is new?

However, if you look at the Mii (or, you know, have ever tried soccer/football skill tests like this in reality), his knees are bent. If this lady was already bent at the knees, she wouldn't need to PUSH with the opposite foot, merely "fall" on the proper leg. Granted, I haven't tried the game, but I'd be willing to bet it would work much better that way than standing around teetering like a weeble.

My god that looks insanely exciting! Could feel my heart racing just watching that video. I'm gonna practice leaning back and forth in extreme fashion to prepare me for this epic game.
