Everytime I convince myself I don't need another burnout game another detail comes out... Granted at this point the demo has pretty much guarenteed I'm picking this up...

I had mixed feelings about the game. Ignoring the god aweful car sounds the idea of an open ended burnout is a good and bad thing.

Sure it's nice to control how you play the game but removing the tracks takes away from the sense of Speed and Danger the former Burnout games got perfectly.

There is also the issue of damage. It seems there is no middle ground, no losing a mirror or breaking a window. When you're driving 70-140mph and slam into a car from whatever direction it either does nothing (literally nothing other than a shoving sound and the occasional spark) or your car is wrecked entirely. If you drive under 70 and hit something nothing happens, you just kinda bounce off, there is no slow noticeable destruction of your car and it kinda pisses me off. Sure there are the occasional wrecks you can drive away from that leave you're car damaged but there really seems to be no method to the madness that is Burnout Paradise.

Another thing worth noteing is when one does get in a crash, it moves into a slow motion close up that often leaves the viewer in a position where they don't actually get to enjoy the crash and the carnage it creates post collision. You hit and typically your car slides out of view and immediatly respawns fresh.

Not really...try doing barrel rolls and tell me there's no in between. try clipping the inside of a corner while drifitng...there is an in between...BUT yes, burnout does love having it so its either a minor scratch or a complete front-end-harmonica-that-totals-your-car beauty. :P

before playing the demo i was remotely interested in it. then right before playing the demo i was listening to the fancast and heard about the seamless world integration...and was shocked...so i went into the demo expecting a lot and was BLOWN away. maybe it's because i've never actually played the full version of burnout...

Yeah but I was hoping this time around you could drive throughout the city with your rear bumper draging on the ground or a pull in your car from slaming into the wall, maybe a door missing or the top being ripped off from trying to drive under something to low to the ground or rolling your car.

for the love of god stop writing long winded comments about A DEMO...
it is a demo either u like it or you dont that is the point it is not the full game so guess what you cant review the full game from the demo
This demo is probably the one from e3 since M$ takes so long to get stuff online

Did you even look at the positives at all in the game or did you just go with your pessimistic attitude and call it a total loss. Keep reading the post and find out how many people share your point of view about this amazing game and I'm sure you'll see what I'm talking about Mr. half empty!!!

Eh I most certainly am not a pessimistic person. I just found the fact that there was no middle ground to be quite frustrating. There is a lot of good to be found in Burnout but I don't know if the direction they are taking the series is for the better, from what I felt in the demo I wasn't to convinced this was the way to go. Mostly because the open areas remove the sense of speed and the lack of a varied damage system, it's typically all or nothing.

No need to attack me just because I don't agree with everyone else. I thought I'd share a few gripes I had with the demo and see if anyone felt the same and hopefully the response might not fall on deaf ears and the developers could possibly tweak the game a little before launch. I'm not going to be a sheep just because you say so, I have my own opinions.

It would have been a godsend if they'd allow you to run over the announcer guy so you didn't have to listen to him anymore.

Heh kinda the same feeling I had with the old guy from Dead Rising who was constantly calling you.

I didn't really mind the announcer guy but I bet there is a sound control in the final game and you can set the voice volume to 0 or something.

eh idk about this game, i like the easiness of a menu and such from revenge and the others, but a sandbox type game could be good for ea, ill have to try the actual game to get a better opinion.

The first time the screen saver activated, I heard the classical music and wondered if my XBOX somehow screwed up and started playing some of my mp3s. :)

This demo is so sick. I'm getting all my friends to download it. I haven't been into the whole Burnout series since the second one, but the first one was awesome and this one is turning out to be just as rad.

Am I the only person who thinks the Burnout franchise went the wrong direction?

Maybe it was late and I didn't get the demo a chance ... but damn I got bored quick.

It felt like Grand Theft Auto, minus getting out of your vehicle and shooting people/things.

The online "freeburn mode" was not too attractive either. Constantly cycle a bunch of random in-game boost givers and see who can get the most? Seemed pretty uninteresting and unintuitive to me.

I miss booting up, working my way through the ranks and unlocking new tracks and vehicles.

I also miss booting up and finding my friends for a set of races and trash-talk the hell out of my buddies as I slam their 3,000 piece of metal into the guard-rail.

Call me old-school or resistant to change if you will, but I think they broke the tried-and-true formula in a bad way.

Just to let you guys know, the demo already has the screensaver and classical music. When you are alone just stay still and eventually (along with you turning off your car) you should get a flyover of the area you are in.
