Just saw a wooden SNES
And we thought you'd might like to see it too. TechEBlog has featured one of the strangest things to come out of the woodwork in a while -- one SNES squeezed into a somewhat portable wooden case and outfitted with speakers, a PSOne screen and a headphone jack. If you lumber past the break, you'll spot a video depicting the veneer-able Nintendo system in all its barrel-rolling glory.

You get double votes down for that.
Original Starfox is the shiznite.

Photo-chop FTW.
Jim Halpert DM @ Dec 17th 2007 8:51PM
Hope that thing doesn't overheat.
Geist @ Dec 17th 2007 8:57PM
And that is why you don't make a 360 or PS3 out of wood.
fadeoutagain2784 @ Dec 17th 2007 8:58PM
That's pretty damn cool. I wonder how it's powered... I'd think that it would have a pretty bad battery life, but I couldn't see an AC adapter either.
telee @ Dec 17th 2007 8:58PM
Do a barrel roll!
ejordan @ Dec 17th 2007 9:02PM
How many Joystiq readers also read Engadget? I saw this today and I became confused. "Did I just travel back in time? Can I see the future? Oh... this is Joystiq.."
Nonetheless, this is a very cool mod. I wonder how natural the L and R buttons are to press, seeing how they are on the back.
Kinger @ Dec 17th 2007 11:52PM
I felt totally the same way man. I was like woah! this is totally like a week ago! Then I thought.. damn this information age is crazy fast. A week is old news.. woah
anantha92 @ Dec 18th 2007 5:00AM
LOL, you guys arn't the only one i felt the same way, and was still confused until you mentioned engadget... haha
DBuck_Eye @ Dec 17th 2007 9:04PM
I can't even concentrate on the subject. That pun-y (I'm hipocritical; so-k) title is way too freakin' distracting.
Ariel @ Dec 17th 2007 9:13PM
On a role with the puns, dude. Are you gear-ing up for the continuation of our battle?
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Dec 18th 2007 7:28AM
Oh yes, I wooden miss it for the world.
fluffbox @ Dec 17th 2007 9:26PM
It comes with a woodpecker installed
James @ Dec 17th 2007 9:27PM
I wanted to do this with my girlfriends SNES. Not so much a handheld mod but just to replace the ageing case with a nice wooden slab.
waynski1457 @ Dec 17th 2007 9:36PM
aside from the fact that i dont like where the volume and start/select buttons are, this is full of the highest amounts of epic win!! and i just (finally) finished my nes mod too...
colin @ Dec 17th 2007 9:47PM
Does it float?
Moofree @ Dec 17th 2007 9:55PM
Of course it floats!
Will it blend? Or would you have to use a wood chopper.
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Dec 18th 2007 7:32AM
If it floats, it might weigh the same as a duck. Therefore... this thing is a WITCH! Burn her!
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Dec 18th 2007 10:37AM
I see you got better, Ludwig.
I was afraid you'd be stuck as a newt forever.
Kyattsuai @ Dec 17th 2007 9:51PM
wood is the new white, just wait and see
colin @ Dec 18th 2007 1:16AM
orange is the new pink, and black is the new white
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Dec 18th 2007 10:38AM
Actually, wood is the OLD white.
Every damn electronic device created in the 70's had a fake wood grain finish. It was disgusting. And if you left most of them out in the sun for extended periods (like the life of the product), the glue would liquify and seep through to the top, making the damn things super sticky.
I'll take white plastic over faux wood grain, thanks.
Ryan @ Dec 17th 2007 10:03PM
I didn't notice any L and R buttons unless they are located in the back.
Sean Newton @ Dec 17th 2007 10:20PM
This is the first game console I've seen, where you don't worry as much about dust bunnies as you do about termites.
The Boston Rag @ Dec 17th 2007 10:51PM
Do want!
The Boston Rag @ Dec 17th 2007 10:53PM
I wish I had kept more of my old SNES carts.

Saw Dust can void your Wood SNES.
Just like Normal dust does your PS3.
Avarice @ Dec 18th 2007 12:07AM
Rock on. Splinters are the new force feedback!
Abhinav Kumar @ Dec 18th 2007 12:13AM
that is pretty damn cool.
Shagittarius @ Dec 18th 2007 12:56AM
Bah, thats just two NES' wood glued together.
Worst Review Ever @ Dec 18th 2007 1:06AM
You know what would rock more than this? A diamond Wii made out of, get this, DIAMONDS! Somebody call the marketing consultant for Tiffany's. Now!
gonk @ Dec 18th 2007 2:24AM
li'l jon would buy that for a dollar!
NoHitHair @ Dec 18th 2007 5:39AM
Veneer-able. That was too much - I actually did laugh.
PhrawzT @ Dec 18th 2007 11:24AM
That's awesome! I want to build one.
