New games this week: NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams edition

With this week's close proximity to Yule, we like to think of it as a gift to NiGHTS fans. That's right, gang: The sequel to your beloved game, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams is finally arriving. Have fun digging your cosplay gear out of the closet, here's hoping it still fits (spoiler alert: it doesn't). Wow...slow week, but thats a good thing. Next week I'll have a PS3 and 3 new games to finally get my game on with. So about how long is Uncharted DF's campaign?

Well, a friend of mine has been playing the game three weeks solid trying to unlock everything. Apparently there are a ton of hidden things such as "next gen" mode which ramps up the bloom lighting in a lighthearted gab. Or a weapon select mode where you can spawn weapons and grenades anytime you want. And he's currently working through the hardest difficulty.

Yeah I myself usually like to unlock everything so guess it should be good. I also hear great things about UT3 so its on!! Cant wait till Sony gets on par with LIVE though =)

too much bloom = bad.

Unfortunately, too many developers are abusing Bloom lighting. It's meant to give soft lighting a slight haze, not to hide inperfections as many devs use it.

Heh, yeah. I got da banhammer a long time ago. So on that day, created two accounts. One, Sheppy2.0 which would have the stigma of the sheppy name attached to it and FidliousWong who could post without my typical sheppy bashers. Gig was up a few weeks ago when secrets were revealed on the podcast. I got my brush with fame and then Justin announced my previous account.

So yeah, I'm sheppy. Never really tried to hide it, actually. Since some who asked didn't get denials. But it's nice to have the ability to post without unexpected haters. Also, I can keep up the other name. I've had that nickname since elementary school, kinda hard to give up...

Hey, don't knock RIG RACER2 for the Vii. They're giving us a STANLEY NICKELS special edition that comes with a VHS tape filled with over 5 full minutes of PROTIPS and 20 hours of behind the water-cooler footage of how the programmers copy and pasted Nigerian Scams & pornographic emails to Nintendo executives.

Personally I prefer the Chintendo Vii. The superior graphics and the unique, original design and the ease of having all your games built in! It's just a fantastic time to own a Vii.

I'm sure that a relative will probably pick up NiGHTS; so I guess it's NEOGEO BATTLE COLLISEUM as a purchase on this end. My logic is... if I support either one(or both); that 'enhances' the chances of SNK or SEGA reviving and making other much needed sequels to games I like.

Initial PREVIEWS are positive, but we all know how little that means

That My Dream mode certainly looks better in motion than those screens they showed a while ago made it look. Everything seems solid so far, and i'm 95% sure i'll love it, but i loved Secret Rings too, so...

NiGHTS marks the last title that's coming out for 2007 in which I have any interest. Except XBLA games.

Speaking of which, Sensible World of Soccer is coming out for the XBLA this week.

okay this is coming from nintendo power, BUT they gave the game a 9.0. I haven't read any other reviews, though. They said the on-foot levels were dull, voice acting was bad and the motion controls weren't that good (better to use the analog stick). They said despite those flaws, the game on a whole is a lot like the original. I'd probably rent it first to test the waters, though.

I think the motion controls were optional, the on-foot levels were minimal - so to them they were minor problems.

I'm sure i'm going to like it, as for critical reception, i'm also positive its going to be poor, because its a Sega/Sonic Team game, and its a Wii game

However, as to whether or not they fuck up the traditional NiGHTS spirit, i'm pretty sure they will not. One of the original developers is directing this, and they are trying to "recreate the sensation of flight" that made the original so well-recieved, but they are using the new technology to be able to do more, but from the game videos, "more" clearly does not imply "fuck up" as it so often does

Well I have NiGHTS preordered, and 11 years of hope behind the game, time to get massively disappointed (if I keep my expectations low, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

i think im definitely going to wait for the reviews to trickle out b4 i pick up or rent NiGHTS but my PS3 is certainly getting no presents this week with that release list.

I want this game badly. Hopefully I'll get it for Christmas; if not, I'll get it some time in the spring during the drought. I don't care about the reviews, honestly; they're not terrible, and genres like platformers that I like usually get worse ratings from professional reviewers than I'd give.
