I wouldn't want a Stalker Online, as I don't feel the plot is expansive enough to offer enough content to be a full-fledged MMO-- at least, not without becoming repetitive a la Hellgate: London. The team and technology behind it, however, are solid as hell, and I'd buy any MMO of theirs in a second

Probably the only MMO I would play. That is, as long as it had the same gameplay as Stalker.

Seriously? Cause a MMOG S.T.A.L.K.E.R sounds awesome, seriously!

I was really disappointed to find STALKER wasn't a completely open-plan world but rather just areas with loading in-between. Kind of pee'd all over the immersion.

I think it would fail, unfortunately, as all other MMOFPS games have. Tabula Rasa isn't doing very well, PlanetSide died a terrible death, and WW2 Online is awful.

The only way to make an MMOFPS is to strip everything that makes it an FPS out: fast, adrenaline-pumping action and lots and lots of guns. Why? You can't have super-fast ping times when there's 1000+ people on the server, and it requires super-fast ping times to have super-fast action. And, you can't have lots of guns when the hook of an MMO requires you to have to grind for your equipment, meaning that you'll have one or maybe two guns at a time, and just keep upgrading them or changing them out for the "Rocket Launcher of Aiming +2".

Oh yeah, and since MMOs require grinding, you'll also have stats that you have to improve to become better, and levels to gain so that you can use the higher-quality guns (otherwise you'd have new guys using awesome guns from their old-timer friends). Suddenly the MMOFPS becomes an MMORPG with guns and no auto-target.

In other words: MMORPGs are successful because the RPG genre lends itself to an MMO. MMOFPSs are unsuccessful because the FPS genre does not. The only remotely successful versions have been hybrids, like Tabula Rasa, but in a hybrid you often leave both the RPG and FPS camps unsatisfied.

STALKER has RPG qualities, like finding relics to upgrade stats, which in turn helps you get to hard areas to get weapons. Not saying its completely formed into an RPG, but it sure is close.

I was on a plane from Kiev - and happened to meet the president of Bethesda Softworks...

He was in Kiev to hammer out the details of porting S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to the 360. Evidently the deal is done, and the Bethesda team in Scotland will be doing the port (I guess that's the team that does ports)...

Cool, gruff talking guy he was. And Kiev was nice too.

He also said he hates Sony ;-) hehe... thought that was funny.

Disclaimer: I own a PS3 also

I won't go back to MMO gaming until they can figure out a way to bring it to the 360 and without a monthly charge. Otherwise I'll just wait til Guild Wars 2 comes out. I'm in no hurry.

"Elder Scrolls games are like Everquest without stupid people".

Exactly, so lets not go and start killing promising games (and developers) by adding stupid people.

Everyone and their mum are making MMOs these days... half of them go bust before they even release, and half of the rest have to release early in some buggy mess, get no subscribers, go bankrupt and then have to sell the IP to Sony Online or someone.

Bethesda might have enugh money to develop and MMO and for it not to bankrupt them (though i still don't see the point of adding stupid people).

The stalker devs would be sealing the fate of their company.
