Downloading videos from Stage6

Stage6 is widely known amongst DivX fans as one of the best places to get high quality streaming DivX video. Unfortunately, the site isn't compatible with the PS3 ... or is it?

It is, so long as you're willing to fiddle around with the PS3's web browser a bit. Go to a Stage6 video you're interested in. For example, we've chosen the PS3's recent Universe of Entertainment ad. Edit the URL in your PS3 browser by pressing START.

URL displayed by browser:
http://www.stage6.com/PS3/video/1827927/PLAYSTATION%C2%AE3---Universe-of-Entertainment

To download this DivX file to your DivX-enabled PS3, you're going to have to edit the video as such:

http://video.stage6.com/1827927/.divx

That's it! Press START, and your PS3 will start downloading the DivX file directly to your hard drive. You can do this with any video on Stage6. All you have to do is follow this formula:
http://video.stage6.com/VIDEO-NUMBER/.divx

Any other information is unnecessary! This only takes a few seconds, and you'll have high quality DivX files any time you wish.

yea i keep getting an error too while its in the downloading stage..
is it bc i X out of the website while its downloading??

Awesome. This is most definetly going to be useful.

a suggestions. for those using TVersity to stream accross their media, you can add the RSS from stage6 as RSS feeds on TVersity and then access is from the video feeds menu in the ps3. i use this for my 360 and there is no stress on the PC hosting tversity as its just streaming and not transcoding.

it doesnt work on my ps3, no video screen shows up but everything around it does? why is that?

the article says that you need to change the URL to point directly at the divx file. you're basically downloading the file to your ps3 hard drive and viewing it off of that...not viewing it through a web page.

any other sites like this? other than joox.net?

This could also have been done before but it would have been utterly useless as the PsTriple(LoL) just got this Divx functionality. Although I thought like the Xbox this ability would come years after being announced but they timed it so it would simultaneously release with its year older competitor.

ATTENTION- while background loading these videos, do not try to pause the download, because if you do you get an error message when you try to resume, and you will have to download it all over again. At least thats what happens to me.

All we need is .flv support and we can directly download YouTube videos (with the right URL). Lol.

thanks for the workaround, but to be honest it's no problem for me at least to just download it from stage6 on my laptop :P

It shouldn't be hard to make a web page with an iframe to stage6 webbie, and a javascript identifying every thumbnail href and changing it to a direct link to the video. Either that or that the divx content is changed to a direct hyperlink.

Thanks a lot for the link Levi. That's exactly what I was looking for. You saved me a lot of time attempting to figure out the supposed to be buggy DOM of the ps3 browser :)

I hope the author won't run into some legal problem for doing this though. Or worse, that they will cut direct downloads entirely.

It downloads them but won't play them after following these steps word for word.

Okay, I've gotten some videos to work but this method DEFINITELY doesn't work for all/any video on stage6. Try any Kenny vs Spenny episode for instance, none of them work.

I get "The data is corrupted." screen when a try to play the file. I've done exactly as you guys say, what's wrong n how do i fix it?

whenever i type in what they say i always get "this page cannot be displayed" anyone else with this problem...i need help

This pulls in data from Stage6 and presents it in a simple manner with direct download links for the PS3. Still working on some more features. Keep checking back for updates!

Check this Stage6 leech script (stage6fetch) in PHP. Its open source and I found it quite useful in searching and downloading a list of movies off stage6.
