As a sign that Duke Nukem (the character) is still alive and kicking, 3D Realms has announced that a teaser video for Duke Nukem Forever will go live tomorrow at noon CST (that's 1:00 p.m. EST, or Joystiq Time). To tide us over, the developer has released a screenshot (seen above) from tomorrow's video to prove that it does, in fact, exist.
After over a decade of waiting, it's about time somebody released a teaser video of the game in its current form. Of course, the very word "teaser" gives us the impression that it'll be less than 30 seconds long and have little to no bearing on the actual gameplay. If you've been waiting over 10 years to see Duke puff a high-resolution cigar, then good for you! If not, feel free to join us in the Land of Expected Disappointments tomorrow (with well roasted crow on standby).
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

We will all check out the next Duke game regardless of how long they take... the first one still makes me smile.

what are you serious? I won't get excited about this game till I hear someone outside 3dr has played it and says it's great. What reason do we have to believe these guys can even make a game in todays market? It's going to take more than a generic shooter with nostalgic voiceovers to make a dent these days.

You poor, poor rubes. Anyone who thinks this "teaser" will display more than milliseconds of "gameplay" is in for a disappointment. This will be about 10 seconds of black screen with the words "The world has waited for a savior for ten years..." followed by some SCREENS that flash for an instant, followed by the 3DRealms logo (no release date), all set over some heavy metal.
It. Will. Be. WEAK.

I assume the trailer will simply involve bubblegum, or the lack thereof.

Alright, this is how the 'trailer' is going down.
Fade in, duke is on the weight bench. Camera pans along his side. He's benching an incredulous amount of weight. He gets up, he's smoking a cigar. He cracks his knuckles.
Now at this point Im guessing he says something and then instantly to black screen followed by a WOOOSH noise and then an impact as the words
"ETA: WHEN ITS DONE" appear on the screen.
Prove me wrong.

This is the final sign on the apocalypse. The rapture is coming. The 4 horsemen will reign death on this Earth and only the righteous will be allowed entrance into the kingdom of heaven with god. Repent your sins and pray for the salvation of your eternal soul.

They've been teasing us for 10 years, how about an actual game?

How much you guys want to put on it that most of the trailer will be CG...

A trailer is easy to make. An actual game takes a bit more work.

It at least shows us that they have something done.

They had something done years ago. There was an actual gameplay video quite a few years ago, with a few minutes of gameplay. Of course, that was back when it was running on the Quake 2 engine. It certainly looked playable (and good) then, don't know what the hell happened to it though.

I meant trailers in general, but yea, I've heard about the DNF trailers from '99 and '01.

Duke is designed around someone who is better known as the Governor of California and the catch phrase, bad attitude phase died out around when the game was first announced. It is unlikely to be appealing because of outdated cultural fads, not being a PC game.

Um, have you seen what the character models look like for pretty much any big game made with the U3 Engine look like? I'd say there's room for another cigar-smokin badass in today's pop-culture...

While I agree with LaughingTarget, I liked the game just because the stereotypes and crudeness were just laughably ridiculous. I loved it.
This screenshot also looks laughably ridiculous... but not in the good way. Not like I expected anything else after that godawful "Pig" screenshot not too long ago.
Oh yeah... brown and bloom strikes again! I don't recall seeing that in the original game, either. One major reason why I liked Duke3D over Quake is because it was colorful, and not a pile of mud. Yay for progress.

That "surfergirl" blogger appears to be something of a prophet. I guess her claim of 2008 looks reasonable. I can't fucking wait.

Also according to Kotaku, Jeremy Soule worked on the music, so prepare for it to be EPIC.

Jeremy Soule did the music for Total Annihilation. Don't make me explain more or I may have to smack you.

I can just hear Jack Thompson and the rest of the retard liberal media sharpening their teeth for this, "oh but the innocent children! This game's violence will kill innocent minds and bring society to its knees"

This has to be the first time JT has ever been called a part of the liberal media. Wow. Dude, the guy's a nutjob conservative. And there is no liberal media... only a bunch of mainstream networks that tend to lean only slightly toward the left and one big one (Fox) that is so heavily on the right that the scales balance out, or if anything lean slightly right.

You know that liberal/conservative bull is just a ruse to get you not to think, right?
No, you probably don't know. Or care.
Douchebags are douchebags and Jack is the douchebaggiest. That's all that matters.

Jack isn't himself liberal? No shit, that wasn't my point.---Who puts that douche in bright lights and cameras, the liberal media.
Fuckheads.

The fact that this was created "by several people working secretly late at night" does not give me much hope that it has anything to do with what the actual game will be like, but I sure hope I'm wrong. The way the announcement reads it comes off as being a sort of pep-rally-type video to motivate the troops that all is not lost in their lives.
