Nintendo: no plans for a Kirby Wii title

Despite Kirby's prominent appearance in the Wii's megaton title Smash Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo has no plans of giving the little pink vacuum cleaner his own game on the console, according to the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine.

In the magazine's Q&A section, Nintendo's official response is: "There are no plans right now for a Kirby game on Wii but there are plenty of Kirby fans out there, so in the meantime look out for Kirby in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl which will be released in 2008."

Though Kirby has always been best suited to 2D side-scrolling adventures, we're still a bit disappointed that Nintendo isn't considering any Wii love for the squishy mascot. We can't think of any clever waggle functionality, but wouldn't it just be fun to turn the Wii-mote on its side and let Kirby run free in a 2.5D adventure?

I see what you did there.

But don't you think they've already made a bunch of useless crappy "sponsor" games for the Wii? I'm not saying all of them, but just a majority in my view.
So why wouldn't Kirby just add to the small amount of good games to enjoy? ;D

You mean Kirby Air Ride? I'd say that it was very unsuccessful.

No I meen the Platform/adventure game that they were making...

People were expecting the Kirby GC game to become the Kirby Wii game.

It's always possible that after Brawl is done, Sakurai could go to Nintendo and say, "You owe me so I'm making another damn Kirby game!"

I've found it very hard to care for console Kirby games. The handheld ones, even that Paintbrush one, all take my cake any day.

The the first NES one was really good. It had the same control scheme as the first Gmae Boy one, and it was the first to let Kirby take an enemy's power by swallowing him.

well seeing as i enjoyed both super paper mario and canvas curse much more than i intended to, this comes as very bad news indeed. as long as they dont eventually try to ressurect that horrid racer for the cube down the line (*shudder*)...

Kirby 64 DID NOT suck. That game was really fun. I hope to see it on the VC one day.

I think this is both good and bad... It's bad because I like Kirby games. Kirby Squeak Squad was a pretty alright game and I had no major complaints about it... However, previous iterations of home-console Kirby games (e.g. Kirby 64) have been terrible. And I think Nintendo would rather stick to portable consoles with Kirby games where they can still get away with classic 2D side-scrollers without the graphics-zealots jumping all over Nintendo with their nonsensical "Graphics makes games" bullshit.
I whole heartedly back Nintendo if they make a 2.5D Kirby Wii game, for it will probably be as awesome as Super Paper Mario. So don't go quiting on us yet, Nintendo and HAL! We want Wii Kirby!

Sucking into the speaker of the Wiimote to eat the enemies? I'd like to see a video of a girl doing that.

Damn it, I was looking forward to that one. I hope they somehow chnage their mind, and throws in a new DK platformer while they are at it.

I agree on the sideways remote 2.5D the Wii should get loaded with that sort of game starting with a proper Sonic. Just make it play like the old Sonic but with nice hand drawn sprites.

The pic you used was very misleading, I saw it and thought that Nintendo had some how retracted Kirby from the smash bros. line up (what the pic kind-of implies). Dont scare me like that!

Honestly, a Kirby game would be one of the few things that could be fun on the Wii. 2D side-croller, but using the wii-mote to control kirby. Fun as hell.

Highly upsetting. I love Kirby oh so much.

Screw 2.5d, a new Kirby game fully in 2d would be amazing.

They probably scrapped it in favor of more "Wii Play" type garbage.

This is nintendo.. of course they'll eventually crank out a game with some pointless old character. It's what they do...it's all they do.

I think they could put some decent motion control in a Kirby game, but I'd rather see a GOOD Star Fox game released first.

WTF?! NO! That trailer for that Kirby Adventure game for Gamecube looked AWESOME. It was like a 4-player Super Star! Damn it, Nintendo! >=[

Also, am i the only one who liked Kirby Air Ride? A Local multiplayer and LAN multiplayer blast, with an achievement system that kept you going

Yeah I can't see why people hate it so much. Me and my brother got a lot of mileage out of it, especially the city challenge mode.

I think the people who didn't liked it were expecting the wrong sort of things from it.

So they canceled the Gamecube game because....? I don't get why Nintendo can't just make a 2.5D Kirby game that looks like DK: Jungle Beat.

This is depressing news. I was really looking forward to Hoshii No Kirby.

Kirby 64 was good, Kirby's Adventure was REALLY good, and Kirby Super Star was RIDICULOUSLY GREAT. So yeah, this is one pedigree that should live on.

It sucks. I love Kirby. :(

I also want a new Kirby Air Ride. The game was awesome, and I think the sales of the game weren't too bad (1.98M , if what VGChartz says is good). The game is a Player's Choice, after all.
