Nintendo: no plans for a Kirby Wii title
Despite Kirby's prominent appearance in the Wii's megaton title Smash Smash Bros. Brawl, Nintendo has no plans of giving the little pink vacuum cleaner his own game on the console, according to the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine.
In the magazine's Q&A section, Nintendo's official response is: "There are no plans right now for a Kirby game on Wii but there are plenty of Kirby fans out there, so in the meantime look out for Kirby in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl which will be released in 2008."
Though Kirby has always been best suited to 2D side-scrolling adventures, we're still a bit disappointed that Nintendo isn't considering any Wii love for the squishy mascot. We can't think of any clever waggle functionality, but wouldn't it just be fun to turn the Wii-mote on its side and let Kirby run free in a 2.5D adventure?

I'd better post this before someone else does:
"It's because Kirby sucks, and the Wii doesn't."

:P

LOL (+)
I see what you did there.
RandomStranger @ Jan 23rd 2008 10:09PM
But don't you think they've already made a bunch of useless crappy "sponsor" games for the Wii? I'm not saying all of them, but just a majority in my view.
So why wouldn't Kirby just add to the small amount of good games to enjoy? ;D
Timo710 @ Dec 18th 2007 8:20AM
What happend to that Gamecube Kirby game?
Beano @ Dec 18th 2007 8:57AM
You mean Kirby Air Ride? I'd say that it was very unsuccessful.
Timo710 @ Dec 18th 2007 8:58AM
No I meen the Platform/adventure game that they were making...
samfish @ Dec 18th 2007 9:28AM
People were expecting the Kirby GC game to become the Kirby Wii game.
It's always possible that after Brawl is done, Sakurai could go to Nintendo and say, "You owe me so I'm making another damn Kirby game!"
James @ Dec 18th 2007 8:20AM
I've found it very hard to care for console Kirby games. The handheld ones, even that Paintbrush one, all take my cake any day.
gonk @ Dec 18th 2007 11:21AM
yeah, and his puzzle one on the gameboy was cool too
Raikage (ROFLBERRY PWNCAKES Defence Force) @ Dec 19th 2007 12:55AM
Your totally lying about that cake, the internets haz told me!
PhydeWice @ Dec 19th 2007 7:10AM
The the first NES one was really good. It had the same control scheme as the first Gmae Boy one, and it was the first to let Kirby take an enemy's power by swallowing him.

WiNG @ Dec 18th 2007 8:35AM
Why is anyone surprised? After all... Kirby sucks.
Obie @ Dec 18th 2007 8:55AM
I always thought Kirby was an anthropomorphic boob!
waynski1457 @ Dec 18th 2007 8:55AM
well seeing as i enjoyed both super paper mario and canvas curse much more than i intended to, this comes as very bad news indeed. as long as they dont eventually try to ressurect that horrid racer for the cube down the line (*shudder*)...
wud_e @ Dec 18th 2007 8:58AM
Kirby 64 DID NOT suck. That game was really fun. I hope to see it on the VC one day.
ssuk @ Dec 18th 2007 9:17AM
I think this is both good and bad... It's bad because I like Kirby games. Kirby Squeak Squad was a pretty alright game and I had no major complaints about it... However, previous iterations of home-console Kirby games (e.g. Kirby 64) have been terrible. And I think Nintendo would rather stick to portable consoles with Kirby games where they can still get away with classic 2D side-scrollers without the graphics-zealots jumping all over Nintendo with their nonsensical "Graphics makes games" bullshit.
I whole heartedly back Nintendo if they make a 2.5D Kirby Wii game, for it will probably be as awesome as Super Paper Mario. So don't go quiting on us yet, Nintendo and HAL! We want Wii Kirby!
Slaziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Dec 18th 2007 9:18AM
Sucking into the speaker of the Wiimote to eat the enemies? I'd like to see a video of a girl doing that.
...
What?
Sam406 @ Dec 18th 2007 10:18AM
You're not saying you're looking forward to playing a game like that are you?
BlackTye @ Dec 18th 2007 9:35AM
This makes me a sad panda.
Me @ Dec 18th 2007 9:48AM
Damn it, I was looking forward to that one. I hope they somehow chnage their mind, and throws in a new DK platformer while they are at it.
Hunter @ Dec 18th 2007 10:03AM
I agree on the sideways remote 2.5D the Wii should get loaded with that sort of game starting with a proper Sonic. Just make it play like the old Sonic but with nice hand drawn sprites.
DonWii @ Dec 18th 2007 10:21AM
Yeah.... ONM is always right on the money....
ALH @ Dec 18th 2007 10:26AM
There are no plans right now
no plans right now
plans right now
RIGHT NOW
Mountain out of a molehill. 'Right now' does now mean NEVER. It means NOT AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME. I'd say i cant beleive joystiq is making such a big fuss over nothing but this isnt exactly the first time something like this has happened.

OUCH!!!!
NvM @ Dec 18th 2007 4:14PM
Yeah but they were making one and canceled it.
JohnMazz @ Dec 18th 2007 4:04PM
The pic you used was very misleading, I saw it and thought that Nintendo had some how retracted Kirby from the smash bros. line up (what the pic kind-of implies). Dont scare me like that!
Jeff @ Dec 18th 2007 10:44AM
Honestly, a Kirby game would be one of the few things that could be fun on the Wii. 2D side-croller, but using the wii-mote to control kirby. Fun as hell.

Highly upsetting. I love Kirby oh so much.
rockintom @ Dec 18th 2007 11:46AM
Screw 2.5d, a new Kirby game fully in 2d would be amazing.
i_hate_mtv @ Dec 18th 2007 11:53AM
They probably scrapped it in favor of more "Wii Play" type garbage.
Nigeria @ Dec 18th 2007 11:53AM
Is Kirby 64 on Virtual Console yet?
How about Kirby Superstar?
unfriendly_cat @ Dec 18th 2007 12:03PM
Scott: I do not think the word 'remiss' means what you think it means.
Scott Jon Siegel @ Dec 18th 2007 12:21PM
Ack, you're right. Liberal Arts education FTW.
Deuxhero @ Dec 18th 2007 12:15PM
I thought they anounced one 2 years ago? whatever happened to that?
jsn @ Dec 18th 2007 12:18PM
This is nintendo.. of course they'll eventually crank out a game with some pointless old character. It's what they do...it's all they do.
samfish @ Dec 18th 2007 3:20PM
And it will be awesome.
Rubang is Back @ Dec 18th 2007 4:59PM
Yeah remember when that boring old Mario Game WII SPORTS came out and sold about a billion Wiis without a single old franchise? Or when NINTENDOGS topped the charts FOREVER?
Or have you been in a cave for the last 2 years and just hallucinating a flood of Mario games?
DCBlack @ Dec 18th 2007 12:36PM
I think they could put some decent motion control in a Kirby game, but I'd rather see a GOOD Star Fox game released first.
That Fuzzy Bastard @ Dec 18th 2007 12:57PM
But where, where, where is the sequel to Kirby Canvas Curse? None of this Squeak Squad nonsense---I wanna paint more rainbows, dammit!
Seroth @ Dec 18th 2007 1:01PM
WTF?! NO! That trailer for that Kirby Adventure game for Gamecube looked AWESOME. It was like a 4-player Super Star! Damn it, Nintendo! >=[
sketchampm @ Dec 18th 2007 1:41PM
Seriously, what the hell happened to that game...didn't they say it would still come out??
NOOOOOOOOOO!!
Mr Khan @ Dec 18th 2007 4:21PM
Well, that puts an end to the dim hope that that awesome looking 2.5 D spiritual successor to Kirby 64 would be made
Oh well, there are always more handheld games
Also, am i the only one who liked Kirby Air Ride? A Local multiplayer and LAN multiplayer blast, with an achievement system that kept you going
Kree @ Dec 19th 2007 1:57AM
Yeah I can't see why people hate it so much. Me and my brother got a lot of mileage out of it, especially the city challenge mode.
I think the people who didn't liked it were expecting the wrong sort of things from it.
Oreo @ Dec 18th 2007 5:14PM
So they canceled the Gamecube game because....? I don't get why Nintendo can't just make a 2.5D Kirby game that looks like DK: Jungle Beat.
Yoshi Likes Boys @ Dec 18th 2007 5:22PM
This is depressing news. I was really looking forward to Hoshii No Kirby.
Kirby 64 was good, Kirby's Adventure was REALLY good, and Kirby Super Star was RIDICULOUSLY GREAT. So yeah, this is one pedigree that should live on.
Meloche @ Dec 18th 2007 5:24PM
It sucks. I love Kirby. :(
I also want a new Kirby Air Ride. The game was awesome, and I think the sales of the game weren't too bad (1.98M , if what VGChartz says is good). The game is a Player's Choice, after all.
thethirdmoose @ Dec 18th 2007 6:16PM
SUPER smash bros brawl, not smash smash bros brawl
ohheysean @ Dec 18th 2007 8:34PM
Haha, just keep him in Smash brothers. Who cares. Bleh.
