Today's Today was the day. After being "
announced" over a year ago,
Gears of War 2 is now was
available for pre-order from Amazon.com. Millions of voracious gamers have reportedly flooded the site in the moments since the announcement, hopeful that their early action will guarantee them a copy of the highly anticipated game. The title is expected to be in incredibly short supply when it's released Nov. 15, 2008.
OK, we'll come clean -- everything in the last paragraph is pretty much made up (except for the [brief] Amazon pre-order, oddly enough). While a
Gears sequel seems like a no-brainer (and has been
hinted at a few times), the game hasn't been officially announced yet. And while Amazon
lists did list Nov. 15, 2008 as the release date, you have just as good a chance at picking the right date by taking a dart to a calendar of Q4 2008. Whenever the release comes, though, we're relatively confident that hundreds of copies will be available at your local Best Buy, making pre-ordering 11 months in advance kind of pointless. Then again, posting "FIRST!" in comments threads is pretty pointless too, and people still do that, so go nuts!

Here's a better idea than pre-ordering this game.
Take the 5 to 60 dollars you were going to use to pre-order it, dump it in a savings or money market account, and let it accrue interest until the game comes out.
Because thats exactly what amazon and gamestop is going to do.

Amazon does not charge you anything for pre-orders. They only charge the customer once the item has shipped. Just FYI.

What the fluck? And God of war 3? When that happened? Hey Amazon why you don’t start taking orders for Bioshock 2 and Halo, I mean you are pretty much selling air to fanboys already.
Yes we all know Gears 2 is bound to happen but really pre-ordering the sequel of a game that right now is pure speculation is just plain stupid. Even Halo 3 was announced a year before its release and the pre-orders didn't get to a stupidly high levels until 4 months before its release.

Quartermann the EGM rumor guy said both Gears of War 2 (360) and God of War 3 (Ps3) would launch around Thanksgiving 2008, so...this may not be so far-fetched.

I just checked my "recommended for you" list on amazon and the following titles are all available for pre-order.
1) Prototype - 9/30/08
2) Borderlands - 9/08/08
3) Alan Wake - 10/01/08
4) Ghostbusters - 10/07/08
This makes me wonder what I have to buy/put on my wish list to get GearsII on my recommended/tease me more list.

They have Fable 2 up for preoder as well. I signed up for that one since it's listed at 49.99.
