Bloomberg: Persona 4 dev sticks with PS2
Already finding critical and commercial success with Persona 3 on a noticeably last-gen console, it looks like developer Atlus doesn't see any reason to jump ship for the sequel. An article at Bloomberg Japan (via Siliconera) listing upcoming Atlus titles has Persona 4 coming next fiscal year for the PlayStation 2. (Note: image above from Persona 3.)
The word doesn't come directly from Atlus, so there could be a typo or miscommunication (major news outlets are prone to mistakes every now and then). The platform, however, would not be surprising given the company's comfort with developing for the PS2 and Sony's continued success with the now value-priced system. As Siliconera notes, the timing of Persona 4's release could make it a tie-in with Persona -trinity soul-, an anime series due out next year.

is that avatar using a nazi armband???
zenx44 @ Dec 19th 2007 8:33PM
no... it's just an armband.
MD @ Dec 19th 2007 8:34PM
No, he's not. In the drawn character artwork, it just says SEES on it.
Jobless Kid @ Dec 19th 2007 8:27PM
They should put it on the Wii. The Wii could use a good 3rd party RPG right now. Oh well, I'm still gonna buy it when it's released.
ark_v2 @ Dec 20th 2007 12:00AM
No!!! kids shooting themselves in the head on the Wii?! With RE4 is enough for the moms to be annoying
Shignami @ Dec 20th 2007 3:00PM
The "evoker" attachment would sell like hotcakes.
Shignami @ Dec 19th 2007 8:34PM

OMG. Referance!!!111122
Right?
Jim @ Dec 19th 2007 8:45PM
And it won't even work on most PS3 consoles. Hilarious.

Since when is 1.1 million out of 7 million "most?" Troll math... it's like taking singing lessons from Fran Drescher. Sure, you could do it, but it's sooooo wrong.
gonk @ Dec 19th 2007 9:12PM
i'm guessing the 40gb's are almost the only ones selling these days (especially in europe since they're the only ones available) so in the FUTURE, when this game gets released, a higher % of ps3 owners won't be able to play this
of course, there's still the 100+ million ps2 owners who can...
B1gC72 @ Dec 20th 2007 5:39AM
yea thanks for that last part Gonk. it may be more of a hassle but who doesnt have a PS2? just whip that bad boy out to play this game if you bought the 40GB, assuming you didnt trade it in to get said PS3.
i have a 60GB and i am always looking for a new RPG. actually never heard of this series before though. ill have to look into it cause this looks interesting.
sheppy2.0 @ Dec 19th 2007 9:08PM
This doesn't suprise me. Seriously.
Especially considering Atlus has been taking crap with accusations that they've been reusing the same monster models and reusing assets throughout Shin Megami Tensei's PS2 career. Why move on and make all new assets?
scottind @ Dec 19th 2007 9:35PM
Its weak against Dark! Use Mudo Skills!
Geist @ Dec 19th 2007 9:41PM
Argh Mudo skills and Hama skills are so damn worthless. Seems they only work 20% of the time against enemies that are weak against them, and 90% of the time against your characters. Specifically your hero, which is the worst part.
Aisorik @ Dec 19th 2007 10:12PM
I have a ps2, so this is good news, but at the same time... I really wanted to see next-gen persona, something with the art-style of P3 all pimped out. The graphics and load times on the PS@ were pretty bad...
Organic_Shadow @ Dec 19th 2007 10:32PM
No, this game DOESN'T belong on Wii. Tack waggle onto a legendary game series? How about no...
PS2 should suffice. I will admit though I am a LITTLE disappointed no PS3 Persona yet. Key word being yet.
Bahamut Lagoon @ Dec 19th 2007 11:39PM
Why does it have to have waggle? Just because it's on the Wii, doesn't mean it has to have waggle controls tacked on. It can be a regular rpg, that has a traditional control setup.
The same thing happened with the NDS. Everyone thought, well since it's on the NDS, it has to have some kind of Stylus controls, etc, etc. But that's the not case. You can make a game on the NDS without using the Stylus,Touchscreen or mic.
Organic_Shadow @ Dec 20th 2007 11:55AM
The DS has the benefit of having integrated GBA controls right in there, for not only backwards compatibility but for new games too. The Wii does not come with a GC controller, so it's not comparable.
Do you truly, HONESTLY think that any games that don't have any motion control will be coming out for the Wii anytime soon other than VC or WW?
I mean, I would love for that to happen as much as the next guy, but Nintendo wants waggle in games, they want people spending money on old experiences with tacked on waggle if it will turn a profit. That's just business.
capt_carl @ Dec 19th 2007 10:36PM
Mitsuru Kijiro = drool
Kylearan @ Dec 19th 2007 11:01PM
Another Persona game? I'm in. Doesn't matter what system it's on, so long as it's coming.
Glad to hear about the anime series, too -- hopefully it retains and expands on the spirit of the games.
Thierry @ Dec 19th 2007 11:53PM
If that game was on the Wii, you'll be able to invoke the Personas, by tilting the Wiimote at different angles and press the trigger button. It could become more realistic by placing the Wiimote to your head.
Anyways, I spent 119+ hours on Persona 3, I don't feel like playing another RPG for years to come.
zuburi @ Dec 20th 2007 12:23AM
While I'd hate to see this on the Wii, I'd absolutely love the backlash with using the wiimote to blow the Persona out of your head. Not only is the Wii a murder simulator, it's also a suicide trainer!
t_m @ Dec 20th 2007 12:33AM
wow... it'd be worth it just to see the media reaction to a game where you shoot yourself with the Wiimote.
christmasfish @ Dec 20th 2007 2:24AM
I think it's incredibly stupid for them not to port this over to the Wii.
It'd be nice to see the Wii get good ports, instead of awful ones.
...like Ninjabread Man.
Jim @ Dec 20th 2007 6:29AM
This just in: Metal Gear Solid 4 now being released for Dreamcast VMU instead
