Rumorong: More exclusive GTA IV Xbox 360 content in '09
According to Take-Two there is no additional exclusive episodic content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV beyond what was previously announced. The confusion stems from a call last night regarding Take-Two's financials where CEO Ben Feder said, "In fiscal 2009 we'll also be offering additional episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360." A Rockstar rep tells Next-Gen that Feder was referring to the second announced episode.
The semantic crux in the statement is that if the second episode is released after Nov. 1 '08 it is part of Take-Two's fiscal '09. We already knew that the first GTA IV episode was planned to come out shortly after release, and then the second episode about a half year after that, which places it after the fiscal '09 start date. The devil is in the wordy details.

Microsoft is a frigging smart company. Or atleast they have a lot of money and smart people telling them where to throw it.
The few people I know who own a ps3 bought it partially out of brand loyalty, as its the console they had played their favorite game series, Grand Theft Auto, on. Now, they're kicking themselves.
XanthouS @ Dec 19th 2007 3:20PM
Unless they're brand loyal and are Metal Gear fans.
Or Final Fantasy fans.
Or Jak and Daxter fans.
Or Gran Turismo fans.
Or Team ICO fans.
Or Ratchet and Clank fans.

Honestly, I am kicking myself as I see more and more exclusive content for the 360 every month for upcoming games. But, also honestly, it shouldn't be exclusive to the 360. Perhaps made available sooner, but not exclusive. Companies deciding to go with one platform over another when they can do the same thing with both isn't going to lead me to buying a 360, it's going to lead me to spending my money elsewhere all together.

@Loki
Well, the content's not gonna miss you. It's got millions of others' attention.
You're missing out and no one's crying over it but you.
Loki_d20 @ Dec 19th 2007 4:15PM
Crying?
Dick @ Dec 19th 2007 4:31PM
Oh Man...
Ratchet and Clank...
Jak and Daxter...
Look out, Sony's got the new Vanguard of IP's...
*COUGH*
Gran Turismo's cool, Final Fantasy's dope... But come on, make a better case than that.

Halo 3 and Mass Effect are the only exclusive titles in the 360's top 10 games (according to metacritic and not counting things available on PC, since pretty much everyone has a PC). The PS3 has three exclusive titles in its top 10 and has been out for half as long.
Go further down - PS3 has 9 exclusives in its top 20. 360 has 6.
Who's kicking what?
gonk @ Dec 19th 2007 4:47PM
jak 1 and 3 were good, and all of the ratchets have been good to great, but there hasnt been a great ff since the ps1 days, and mgs isn't my fare
360 wins for me :)
XanthouS @ Dec 19th 2007 5:09PM
@ Dick
Whether you like the games or not, the Jack and Ratchet games are both great series.
I've got a gaming PC, a Wii, and a PS3. I've got Orange Box and Bioshock. I could pick up Gears of War if I'd like. IF I wanted Halo 3 (the most overrated game of the year), I could wait until it's eventual PC release.
I'm not a big RPG fan, but I admit that Mass Effect looks like a great RPG. What is this huge list of Xbox "exclusives" that am i missing out on?
Also, toss the God of War series onto the Sony exclusive list.

I have waited for this day...
Ahh, well
Phranctoast @ Dec 19th 2007 3:47PM
you have waited for today??????
Geist @ Dec 19th 2007 3:14PM
Wait, I haven't been following this so someone please explain: Is this game totally episodic? Will it have a fully fleshed out storyline, and then extra stuff that is completely optional, or will gamers have to wait to complete the story, a la the Half Life 2 episodes?
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 19th 2007 3:23PM
Nah. The game will have the same story line in both the ps3 and 360 versions. The only difference is that after the game ends in the 360 version, we will be able to dl episodic content that will continue the story.
Marty @ Dec 19th 2007 3:22PM
It was my understanding that the original game was a full game, and then the extra content was just going to be pay-per-download DLC... kinda like how Crackdown had a big extension added via DLC. How is this different (or is it)?
Still can't wait for GTA4 though - online is gonna be a blast!
XanthouS @ Dec 19th 2007 3:27PM
That sounds about right from what I've read. The DLC will be released as two mini-expansions with new missions.
Akamaru @ Dec 19th 2007 3:31PM
@XanthouS:All of the above.
Also, NOT a fan of over-priced DLC.
Secura @ Dec 19th 2007 3:36PM
By that time everyone will have moved on to other games.
Phranctoast @ Dec 19th 2007 3:50PM
If the 360 version gets a new city thats something to brag about. If not............
I for one wouldnt be downloading a pack for assassins creed that adds another additional 4 assassinations without a new change of location. (not the best example...but it makes the point)
gonk @ Dec 19th 2007 4:49PM
i would buy such a pack, if it was under $7
Kyattsuai @ Dec 19th 2007 4:14PM
Wow, that's surprising to hear... not the exclusivity part, but the part where the game is out by 2009.
Duke @ Dec 19th 2007 4:47PM
I think what they might be trying to get at with this post is that GTA4 will be coming around May of 2008 since that puts it about 6 months away from this second piece of content.
itouchmyself @ Dec 19th 2007 5:11PM
Sweet they get new content in 09..............
Nobody will even still be playing GTA in 09, they'll be playing something else new.
bobobobobobobobo @ Feb 4th 2008 12:07PM
GTA has incredible replay ability, i am still playing san andreas and loving it.
