GameTap Thursday: Street Fighter III: Third Strike's out

This week GameTap hadoukens the Dreamcast version of Street Fighter III: Third Strike onto the service. The game considered by many hardcore gamers as the last great 2D fighter is accessible for both PC and Mac users. The new GameTap titles this week (other than SFIII) are the remains of the year.

Metal Combat (PC) - Just say no. Check out Mr. Robot.
Mr. Robot (PC) - A little-known independent action RPG from a couple years ago that was well received. Check it out for something a little different.
Putter Golf (Genesis) - Hardcore mini-golf.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Covert Ops Essential (PC) - Plan out the mission and repeat it a billion times 'til you don't get your whole squad killed. Classic Rainbow Six game.
Sub Hunt (Intellivision) - A submarine game from 1981. Seriously.
Street Fighter 3: Third Strike (Dreamcast) - We've gone over this.

After the break we have GameTap's list of free games. The new free game this week is Texas Hold 'em and is bolded for easy reference. There will be no GameTap update next week due to the holiday, with the next update on Jan. 3rd.

Hey, it's nice how you added that meta-critic link for mr. robot. It would be sweet if you did that for every title. Even if it wasn't metacritic, but game rankings or moby games or something to give a slightly better perspective than what the gametap page offers.

No, I think not. That award, for now, resides with Guilty Gear X2.

I think most fighting fans would consider Guilty Gear to be more of a button-masher than a true fighter compared to SFIII. Personally, I don't think the two can compare. Street Fighter III is deeper than anything in the Guilty Gear series could hope to be, but that's just my opinion.

Wow, the absolute worst version of Third strike, the DC version. Why couldn't they just run the Arcade-perfect DC version of Marvel vs Capcom 2? Oh don't answer that. I know why.

I don't really think Guilty Gear is a button masher, but it is a hell of a lot more complicated. Both games have a pretty big following, and a lot of people in the FGC play both. I don't really think it makes sense to argue over which one is 'better' because they are so different.

You prob want to pass on this 3s (based on the DC) and get either the Playstation 2 one or just emulate it.

Arcana Heart is also cool btw in terms of new 2-D.

oh my God, there's no reason to say retarded crap like "most tourney players think GG is a button masher." GG is crazy intense, it's MvC2 but 1-on-1.

Scrubs think 3s is perfect and soo balanced, when it's not at all at tournament level. 3s is my main tourney game, and it's really easy to see why people who play multiple games don't enjoy 3s that much -- go watch some high-level (start with Evo Chun vs. Chun or Yun vs. anyone and see how balanced this dumb game is. I can't wait for SFIV :P
