Zertoss @ Dec 21st 2007 1:38PM
Aww, I got buh-buh-buh-buh-brushed. Now I feel bad for being such a spelling Nazi on poor Justin earlier today. Can you ever forgive me?
Justin McElroy @ Dec 21st 2007 1:45PM
Fuck you.
Also: Yes.
Parasite*Evil @ Dec 21st 2007 1:57PM
When I first heard about Duke Nukem Forever I was in elementary school. Now I've graduated high school and college and I'm working as a programmer in the game industry. I gotta say, that's pretty fucked up.
Arno @ Dec 21st 2007 2:28PM
Oh man... "BRU-BRU-BRU-BRU--BRUSH WITH FAME!"
Freakin' hilarious, almost made me burst out laughing in the subway when I heard it the first time!
(no, I'm not begging to be it -- just saying kudos)
FidliousWong @ Dec 21st 2007 3:06PM
Okay... Justin McElroy is a fellow Bust A Groove fan... and yet is hating on it? You know what, I'm brave. I can face the music!
I will never ever run away. I'll be here to fight another day. I will make you realize, I'll always be right by your side. Now our love is sanctified, I'm here to Bust A Groove....
Should I mention I love the Bust A Groove series enough to have actually import Dance Summit 2001.
FidliousWong @ Dec 21st 2007 3:20PM
Damnit, I have company coming over tonight.... yet I suddenly have an urge to bust a groove....
Altairio @ Dec 23rd 2007 7:50PM
Hey whose got the power?
2 Bad's got the power
FEVER TIME!!
That game was epic.
muddyhelmit @ Dec 21st 2007 3:12PM
I totally agree with the comments on Zack & Wiki. It is one of my favorite games for Wii, but yet if I didn't know anything about the game, I wouldn't buy the game by its kiddish cover art.
Tango Charlie @ Dec 21st 2007 3:12PM
YES! STUNTS! Now THAT was an awesome game. Thank you for the reminder.
John Morgan @ Dec 21st 2007 3:35PM
Excellent! A return to the 60+ minute podcast.
The Duke Nukem teaser really got me revved up about this game again. I understand the cynicism you journalists have toward the endless delays, and I agree that the game has become a laughing stock... but nevertheless, I will buy the game when it comes out.
Perhaps there is no way to live up to the hype of a 10+ year development cycle, but a game that has been on the public's mind for this long will sell copies. Poor business plan, but phenomenal marketing scheme.
Zertoss @ Dec 21st 2007 4:02PM
I also played all the way through Sonic on the 360, and even though I think the overall game was terrible, I did manage to find a few things in it I liked. I thought the areas where you're just on-rails running as Sonic were great, for example, but the story and the entire Silver campaign were just atrocious.
I also liked Sonic Heroes. I don't care what anyone says about that game. It was, IMO, the last good 3D Sonic game, and also the end of any semblance of good voice acting in the series, because 4Kids took over when they started distributing Sonic X in the U.S. and they really ran the characters into the fucking ground. Seriously, we didn't know how good we had it until 4Kids got a hold of it and now they won't let go.
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Dec 21st 2007 4:23PM
I actually liked the Silver campaign -- certainly more than Shadow's catastrophic vehicle sections. As for the voice acting, that's never been anything more than atrocious. Like the Pink Panther, Sonic should never speak.
Glad you appreciate the 3D Sonic gameplay though. It's a shame it's always undone by technical issues.
Mr Khan @ Dec 21st 2007 4:58PM
I'm with you, Zertoss
Sonic Heroes rocked, (as good as the Adventure games, but not as much as Secret Rings) but it has to go into storage to make room for NiGHTS 2 come christmas
I should play it again
Zertoss @ Dec 21st 2007 5:12PM
Ha! Yeah, Shadow and probably everyone else in the Sonic universe, should NOT drive. I did have a guilty pleasure with him though. You can button mash his homing attack so that after he connects he proceeds to wail on the target until it dies and then teleport to the next one in range (just like in the FMVs in Shadow the Hedgehog!).
I have to disagree about Sonic never speaking. I think it really added to everyone's personalities (or at least the Japanese voice actors, Ryan Drummond (to an extent) and Mike Pollock (the only 4Kids actor I halfway like) did, the rest of the English cast has always been painful to listen to). But since they can't seem to get a consistently good cast, they do make a good argument against other companies *cough Nintendo cough* including full voice acting in their games.
But I digress. Hopefully Sonic Team learned something from all of these mistakes and manage to, at the very least, return Sonic's 3D outings to Sonic Meh-venture. I'll take mediocrity over garbage any day.
Purple Haze @ Dec 21st 2007 5:17PM
Almost been a year since the beginning of the podcast and you just got to 30.
Justin McElroy @ Dec 21st 2007 5:41PM
That's true. But in the 20 weeks since I took over as producer, we've put out 23 podcasts, and I think we can all agree that's nothing short of heroic.
Love,
Justin
hvnlysoldr @ Dec 21st 2007 6:08PM
Yes Justin is the man for podcasts. (writes nasty letter to fire Justin and hire his more popular brother) (note to self: erase paranthetical phrases)
Dustin @ Dec 21st 2007 7:19PM
Awesome 'cast again, guys. The extra length and extra laughs is what I needed to face my cowboy (literally) family. The only game they've ever played is LucasArts "Outlaws", which is actually a pretty fun game. Ever played it, Ludwig? You seem to be the LucasArts expert, even if it's not an adventure game.
Anyways... If I get out Bratz, dust off my PSX, get nostalgic with one of the crappy Madcatz DDR pads I have laying around somewhere and send you a picture of it, can I have a Joystiq Tshirt? It would be nice to sport an official Tee. When I picked up my Wii at Midnight, I made a Nintendo tshirt that had joystiq.com printed on the bottom of it, so I'm basically a walking billboard every time I wear it.
Myke @ Dec 21st 2007 9:02PM
Awesome podcast as always, the longer the joystiq-cast the better!!! I get to sit at work and have people stare at me wondering why I'm laughing like a moron for an hour every friday =)
Jack @ Dec 21st 2007 9:21PM
I enjoyed the Christmas memories segments. The guitar muzak honestly warmed my cold, blackened heart, if only for a moment.
I've never received a game console for Christmas; I always bought them myself. This year, however, I'm getting an Xbox 360; having been a college graduate for a year and a half, I feel like I'm 12 all of a sudden. Sort-of like how Luddy got his Xbox original, I put the 360 in the cart on Amazon and told my parents to get it, if only because they were SKU-confused. I don't blame them.
fantastic dan @ Dec 22nd 2007 3:15AM
hey guys. duke nukem whatever is probably better than ninja bread man. liek seirously. also, my wife will play ny crossword on ds or my spanish tutor. which is my christmas present maybe. i don't know and i'm still scurred.
Brandon @ Dec 22nd 2007 11:49AM
Oh come on people the IGN/Matt issue is ridiculas. She isn't paid by Nintendo. Yes she works on their account but the PR firm pays her salary. And yes you should listen to some of Matt's podacasts. He has called Nintendo out on boneheaded moves since before the launche of the Wii.
If you want to get down to it why didn't Kyle disclose the fact that he was the one who got the poster of the original article to name names. Or (from what I hear) that he was a once time editior and is still and active poster at that website? You know just to be fair and have full disclosure. So why wasn't this disclosed when he posted the article on it?
T3H WICKERMAN (FDF) @ Dec 22nd 2007 12:01PM
Video games and shitty Christmas memories go hand in hand. I discovered there was no santa when I dropped my new (original) gameboy from santa and my dad said, "you fucking idiot that cost a lot of money dont drop it!". Yes I to had the sega cd year with fmv madness Road Rage, the awesome snes year where my sister and I destroyed supermarios easy ass, the late high school year where i snuck a bottle of vodka and got drunk all week til I beat ocarina of time, the 3DO year where all I felt was guilt, the Christmas my grandma passed away and all we did was quietly sit there and play halo 1 and never spoke, yeah games and holidays go hand in hand. Loved the background music that was very funny. P.S. Chris, PLEASE STOP ASKING LUDWIG TO RECOUNT SILENT HILLS PLOT EVERY TIME THE GAME IS MENTIONED. I cringe every time I hear silent hill on the podcast in anticipation. This was one of the best episodes of the podcasts, very upbeat, very funny and the duke nuke em and "director studios" jokes were great. Good job.
Raikage (ROFLBERRY PWNCAKES Defence Force) @ Dec 22nd 2007 3:20PM
LOL the N64 kid!
Also Fernando I guess has over 120 GameCube games. . .
refinedsugar @ Dec 22nd 2007 10:58PM
After the Gerstmann-gate Gamespot fiasco, I stopped tuning into the Hotspot and starting looking for a decent podcast replacement ...
... and most of them leave a lot to be desired.
I can't fantom how people sit all the way thru these amateur hour attempts at podcasts. When you're telling me stuff I already know and you can't inject some sense of style, atmosphere, personality or humor into the proceedings - what's the point of listening? Having it sound like it was taped during a basement session of Skype doesn't ring true of professionalism either.
Justin McElroy @ Dec 23rd 2007 8:19AM
Dad?
SoxFan13 @ Dec 23rd 2007 10:32PM
If you don't like the podcasts, don't listen. They do a weekly podcast-- their info will be at least a couple of days old from recording session to download availability. The point of the podcast is for the discussions surrounding games and gaming news. If you want the facts at the moment they're released, scour the gaming blogs/sites. These guys do a great job on the podcast and their is no reason to come on here and bust their balls.
Spelling "through" with four letters doesn't exactly ring true of someone with the good sense to know what a podcast is, either.
LiK @ Dec 23rd 2007 12:25AM
thank you for pointing out the horrible "Doom" part of Uncharted. i really hated that part of the game.
btw Justin, can you mention me on the Fame segment? my name is pronounced the way you see it, hehehe...
Shaun @ Dec 23rd 2007 2:14AM
I have to admit the first time I heard Justin on this podcast I cringed... His "I'm Druuunk!" intro was very misleading. I immediately thought that he was a attention hungry buffoon, but in the following podcasts his comedic wit was displayed in more favorable light.
Justin McElroy, you are a true American Hero
Raikage (ROFLBERRY PWNCAKES Defence Force) @ Dec 23rd 2007 2:37AM
Oh also, my favorite bad game is.....
Advent Rising... I love that game... so much...
Also if I remember right Samfish likes God Hand, and will fight for it to the death.
Same way for me and AR...
SoxFan13 @ Dec 23rd 2007 10:36PM
I had a moment extremely similar to N64 kid--- twice.
The first time was with the original gameboy which I was absolutely sure was not going to receive for Christmas-- surprise!
The second time was when I got the SNES. I think if you played the video side by side with N64 kid, you would see that he was clearly mimicking my ridiculousness.
Donald @ Dec 24th 2007 3:44PM
I'm expecting a strange holiday tradition in my family to come to an end this year.
Every five years since 1992, I've gotten the Nintendo console that came out the previous year. (SNES in 1992, N64 - complete with non-taped N64 Kid reaction - in 1997, GameCube in 2002). For obvious reasons, I'm not expecting to receive a Wii this year.
Korova @ Dec 25th 2007 4:20PM
Thanks for answering my question, guys. Great show!
"And what does your wolf mother give your for Christmas!" - best question evar.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, yAll.!
