Second Mass Effect book, Ascension, announced
Say what you will about Mass Effect, but you've got to admit that it was a great read. In fact, the game's copious amounts of text will be spilling into dead-tree form a second time with Del-Rey Books' just announced Mass Effect: Ascension, which will be penned by Mass Effect lead writer Drew Karpyshyn, as was the first prequel book in the game's universe. (A second book had previously been hinted at with the (apparently) temporary subtitle of "Revolution.")
This second novel, Ascension, will span the events between the end of the first game (Spoiler: Rosebud is his space sled!) and the beginning of the second. There's no word on a date yet, but we're going to go out on a limb and guess "sometime before the second game is released."

does delrey only publish scifi books?
Elijah @ Dec 21st 2007 11:12AM
I havent played Mass Effect yet, but I'd definitely prefer to play it with smarmy subtitles like this one.
Feel free to rewrite it and post me. I'll be your first paying customer ;)

I wonder if critics will criticize the book for being too wordy as well. ;)
PhrawzT @ Dec 21st 2007 11:48AM
I enjoyed the first book, even though it relied too heavily on relating things to present technology. I am looking forward to reading the next one.

the first prequel book wasn't anything spectacular but it definately helped me enjoy my experience with the video game a lot more. Especially since the video game kind of just throws you in there. The novel was a good way to 'prep'... and for something to read while taking a dump.
...I'll pick up this for the same reasons.

is it just me or is the picture from Too Human???
Leobebes @ Dec 21st 2007 1:14PM
That is commander Shepard before they prettied him up a bit. Come on look at him in that earlier depiction he looks like a Troglodyte! Not the beacon of humanity that he is presented presently in the game. Also did anyone have funny feelings over the Quarian? Just asking...
Nabrielah @ Dec 24th 2007 12:11AM
Tali was quite possibly my favorite character. It's hard to be attracted to someone who wears a hazard suit 24/7 though.
I really hope the quarians have a larger(any) role in Mass Effect 2.

This should be a choose your own adventure book. Or madlibs...
maverick_saturn_626 @ Dec 21st 2007 1:42PM
The only time people actually read, when its based on a game :S
honkyjesusownsu @ Dec 21st 2007 2:35PM
The story couldn't possibly be more boring than the game.
I think.
Leobebes @ Dec 21st 2007 2:58PM
If it is so boring what did the Captain Anderson do to the Ambassador to help out Shepard get back the Normandy?
Doubt you played it...
Mike-453 @ Dec 21st 2007 3:09PM
Examples of interesting and exciting stories for you then?
Just curious.
honkyjesusownsu @ Dec 21st 2007 2:37PM
Yeah, to tell you the truth that looks a LOT like the main character from Too Human.
Cloneage.
BlackBeltJones @ Dec 21st 2007 3:01PM
yay

Reading is so last-gen: it needs HD illustrations.
LuckyEMS @ Dec 21st 2007 4:47PM
first book was awesome

BioShock had a killer storyline and an inventive plot twist.
Mass Effect, even besides the lackluster combat and laughable Star Wars cloneage storyline had major problems. At least the story didn't flat out make me laugh like Ass. Creed. Whoever came up with that idea and especially the main character's voice-overs should be shot.
Oh, these are both trilogies? Oopsiez.
Mike-453 @ Dec 22nd 2007 7:12AM
In my honest opinion, you fail.
Due to Bioshock's gameplay being completely average, boring AI, average controls, shitty feeling weapons.
Also due to the overrated story, it is a masterpeice, at first, to me, it went downhill in the last couple hours. With a shitty 2 minute ending.
What happened to the large open-ended environments? What happened to the difficult choices during the game? But meh, I can't stand silent characters anyway, so I guess i'm biased........deep characters......lulz.

Leo, do you suffer from diarrhea of the mouth, cause I have no idea what you are saying.
My GT is WhoDoUThinkIAm
Yeah, I played it and then some, mediocre for an AAA game, what do you want me to say? The story wasn't like a Star Wars side story? It was, except it was a technical nightmare along to go with standard sci-fi.
It was far from original and the ending pretty much showed BioWare's reason for selling to EA.
Enjoy Christmas, sir/ma'am.

I know about this book. I was browsing Amazon on 11/27/07 and I saw they had a publication date of July 31, 2007 for Mass Effect #2 [Mass Market Paperback]
By: Drew Karpyshyn. I immediately pre-ordered that bitch. It's $7.99. I'm looking at the order in my history and it lists an ISBN of 0345498526.
Now will they keep that date? Dunno.
But what does that say about Mass Effect #2? There's no way they'll release it next year, is there? That's too much to hope for! When are they going to tell us about Mass Effect in-game DLC?
