SCEA trademarks 'Resistance 2'
A trademark has been filed by Sony Computer Entertainment of America for the name Resistance 2. Although this writer initially assumed SCEA was prepping an educational game on introductory circuitry, the rest of the Joystiq staff quickly reminded him of the well-received Resistance: Fall of Man that launched with the PlayStation 3. Wow, we did not see this coming -- it's a holiday miracle! Is Sony laying groundwork for a sequel? Do they really think it financially wise to make a sequel to one of the best, most critically-acclaimed titles on the PS3? (Answer: probably.) Perhaps they're just protecting the name before someone else claims the title for Resistance 2: Fall of Hen, which is in fact a sequel to the 2000 film Chicken Run and a direct competitor to the equally punful, and equally fictional, Deers of War. (Answer: No, they're not.)
No formal announcement has been made. According to the game's lore, Chimeran forces have invaded all of Europe, giving developer Insomniac a vast number of prestigious churches to anger.

i still need to get a PS3 so i can play the first Resistance :(
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Dec 24th 2007 2:26PM
haha yeah same here. it looked great and was the main reason I wanted a PS3 at the time.
phihexy27 @ Dec 24th 2007 8:32PM
I'm not really sure why you got marked down for that, but you should definitely pick one up. Some really good games now available - even if you own a 360 some of the exclusives (IMO) are worth the purchase.
Nick @ Dec 24th 2007 12:07PM
Are they making a sequel? yes, how do I know you say? well i know someone who is currently working on it...and he was all like, "im working on resistence two" and then i was all like "No!" and he was all like "yeah..." and i was like "thats cool" and then he was all like "yeah" and then there was an awkward silence and we closed our eyes and things got magical

...
I am somewhat disturbed and intrigued.
Go on.
Bloo @ Dec 24th 2007 12:08PM
I must say, as someone who finished the first one, I will absolutely not buy the sequel. I really disliked this game and I like FPS's. I wish Insomniac would just focus on more Ratchet for the PS3 - now THAT was a great game!
Vidikron (FU) @ Dec 24th 2007 3:51PM
Hmmm... I loved the first one. The co-op campaign was great. Although it was far different from R&C, it did have some interesting weapons in the game.
Bloo @ Dec 24th 2007 7:43PM
Yes, I thought the co-op was the best part of the game because it covered up one of the biggest flaws of the game. For a multi-console owner (as well as high end PC) though this game would have only been considered good 3 to 4+ years ago...
aka Prof Chaos @ Dec 24th 2007 10:17PM
There is much better to choose from on the PS3. I was pretty unimpressed with Resistance on so many fronts. I think that, like PDZ on the 360, this game was one people wanted to like so much that they ignored the flaws. I do think, however, that the AI was pretty good in some spots. I can remember being chased by baddies who used their weapons' special features in some pretty ingenious ways to kick my butt. Bottom line, the original is good for a rental, but not a keeper.
Jerk Face @ Dec 24th 2007 12:15PM
Deers of War FTW!
I haven't laughed that hard in a bit.

I would appreciate it if Joystiq would stop posting rumors and speculation. I mean, the only word that comes to mind is FARFETCHED. But unforeseeable and unprecedented are also-rans.
Let me guess, you'll post about a new Final Fantasy game next. Sheesh, i'll believe it when I see it.
Joe @ Dec 24th 2007 1:25PM
Don't you mean Farfetch'd?
ssuk @ Dec 24th 2007 5:56PM
Yes, because a Trademark application by Sony Computer Entertainment is SO far fetched... Idiot.

RFOM didn't reinvent the FPS, but it was fun, was light on hallways and had neat guns. I'm excited to shoot some zombugliens (zombies, made from downed soldiers; bugs, they look kinda like bugs; and aliens, because c'mon, like they aren't = zombugliens) with new guns and in different environments.
I just hope they can mix it up enough it doesn't feel like a rehash, but doesn't lose the things I liked about the first game.
Sam @ Dec 24th 2007 12:59PM
An educational game on introductory circuitry.
With EXPLOSIONS.
Robobagins @ Dec 24th 2007 1:26PM
I hope they include more of the Giant Spider Chimera. Killing those things was always fun.
bdawg95 @ Dec 24th 2007 1:42PM
Ooh ooh, I've got one!
Resistance 2: Ball of Pen.
Like it? Like it? Oh I get it, it doesn't work...
Neptune @ Dec 24th 2007 3:40PM
Resistance is ok, but personally I would have it more like fps version of R&C. Lots of gadgets, ridiculous guns and devices. A 40 man groovitron match could be quite interesting ;)
ssuk @ Dec 24th 2007 5:55PM
*waits until the Church of England chimes in to say how blastfamous the first game was again and how everyone should boycott this game... Unless Sony make another contribution to the constabulary... Tralala-la, lalala laaaa.*
drun @ Dec 24th 2007 9:50PM
Maybe Resistence 2: Fall of Ratchet will be good. No wait, Fall of Quark is better.
B1gC72 @ Dec 25th 2007 1:14AM
i liked the first one. the co-op was really fun and it did eat up about two days time for me and my friend. the online was ok but its really hard to find a good match in there now-a-days. it wasnt the greatest game ever but i felt it was pretty solid for a launch title. either way, i would probably buy a new Resistance, so bring it on.
