Amazon dropped some retail factoids on BusinessWeek, gloating that the 2007 holiday season was the internet retailer's "strongest to date." Leading those sales: the Wii, which sold an impressive 17 consoles a second while Amazon had them in stock (read: not for long). We're guessing that Black Friday allotment of $79 Wiis didn't hurt. Any one of you special, special snowflakes distinguished enough to be one of those 17 people who purchased a Wii that one second on Amazon this holiday?
[Thanks, Josh]

I had no idea how lucky I was to get mine when they first came out last year. Sat around playing DS for 12 hours with other nintenerds and just had a good time, plus got the ever wanted wii.

I'm surprised people haven't given up on this console yet. A couple months ago I tried finding one in stores, and with no luck I just said fuck it. If I can't walk in and find one, I just don't care about it. Not like there's anything worthwhile on the console until No More Heroes drops :)

The reason why people don't give up is because Nintendo keeps on reminding them that they need one. I mean it helps to have Wii stations in like every fucking mall.

They also have broken 360's being sold for scrap and cannot sell the PS3 for beans. Your point?

Umm I think my point was people are buying and selling Wii's to make profit...
Also you're a douche and need to stop riding your wiimote.

Maybe the 360 was out of their budget after all the other stuff they bought? Adults don't know anything? Maybe kids like you just need to wait until their older and actually have a clue about jobs, money and life in general.
Does it not humiliate you to be a crybaby brat in a public forum/blog? How do you get upset about a GIFT??? Especially one that ISN'T EVEN YOURS!!!

The kid wanted a 360, and got a Wii.
The Wii is $249, the 360 is $279, their budget lacked another $30?
And besides, this story is utterly worthless without the total number sold. For all we know, they sold 500 systems. If they'd sold 17 a second without running out, then it's a number. There's no info as to when they ran out.

Ok. I can understand that some people might not like the Wii, fine. It's the same as if someone doesn't like the 360 or the ps3. But the hatred the system gets is fucking unbelievable. "CASUALS ARE GOING TO DESTROY GAMING" "BAWWWWW I HATE PLAYING MARIO" "BAAAAAWWWWW CASUALS ARE STUPID" It's fucking ridiculous. Chill the fuck out and get over yourselves.
Also congratulations to Nintendo. Funny how three years ago we were all thinking that Nintendo would go the way of Sega. Funny how things can change so drastically.

60 millions DS's sold and the Wii selling at the same pace as the PS2 during it's glory days. If nintendo isn't careful they'll end up ruling the video game world... again.

You make me laugh. The Wii is a good system, but Nintendo isn't ever going to rule they way they did back in they day.
There is ridicously way more promising stuff to look forward to on ps3 and 360. The franchies that are carrying over to those systems (ex. halo, and FF), plus the original IPs are what's going to make them the systems that have better games.
I love how people generally think that the ps3 and 360 are aimed only at teenagers, because if that were the case, neither the 360 or ps3 wouldn't have sold anyting near they way they have at all. Guess what, it's mostly adults(18+)who are able to afford these systems. I'm 23, and my friends, most of which are in their 20s and 30s, all want(some of us already have) a ps3 or 360.
Also, it's so easy to say "ohh, those games Sony or MS have are just pretty eye-candy for graphics whores". But guess what, there ARE more fun games for ps3 and 360 then there are for Wii. That's just a simple very important fact. Just look at all the kickass 3rd party games that have been released after fall. I couldn't care less about these high Wii sales, because Nintendo deserves rightfully deserves them. They created a machine that has a nice price. Almost everyone who I know who has a Wii, bought it because of the price. I'm looking forard to get one, only because Nintendo has some excellent first party titles for it.

I was one of the lucky sods to get a $79 Wii on the Black Friday lottery deal. My original plan was to ebay it, but I've never been one of those kinds of people and, since my wife mentioned wanting one, I kept it. There may not be many games for it now but it seems unlikely I'd get another chance for one even at retail price anytime soon.

I bought one... its not bad but the console is just plain weak, graphically... the controller is excellent but you feel kinda let down by the crummy console its self.
Also the virtual movement of the controller is just a gimmick, its inaccurate and over time, repetitive over games... Zzzz, I shoulda played someone elses more over time before purchasing.

A) The PS2 was weak compared to the X-Box. Look how much the PS2 was hated for being weak after that lol...oh wait.
B) Did you know that many people complained about Analog Controls and how it was inferior to the D-Pad? Right, they sooo dropped that like a hot rock!

Well you can all like the Wii as much as you want, but we have had one since launch morning and I honestly got bored with it after about two weeks. I usually love stupid little games (Geometry wars, Amplitude, Guitar Hero) so you'd think the Wii would be a good fit for me, but it just isn't. Yes, I do like graphics. But I also just like more involving games, like RPGs or anything with a semi-serious story.
I say the Wii lost this round, at least in my book, and I don't know if I'd get another Nintendo system after this one. Then again, I actually kinda liked the Gamecube... And the 3 games I had for it. :P
