GameFly's year-end used game sale
To be honest, we're more fans of game trading services than buying used from a retailer (yeah, we're looking at you, Gamestop) but if you've going to buy used, you can't really beat GameFly's ongoing end-of-year sale. For the next week or so, you can get used games from the popular online gaming rental service at a steep discount with free shipping. Keep in mind, their used prices were already better than Gamestop's and these come with a case and manual (the luxury!). So if your more thoughtful family members thought to drop some cold, hard cash under the tree this year in lieu of lame gift cards, pick yourself up some treats.

Im not really sure what Fernando would like. Is there a DS game where someone takes a crap on a PS3?
WiNG @ Dec 27th 2007 1:35PM
ROFL +1
But seriously, try Hey Arnold or something. My niece-in-laws like that game.
Jerk Face @ Dec 27th 2007 1:39PM
@Phranctoast
That was just unnecessary.

I'll bite, the cake is a lie!!!
Get her Duck Amuck.... :DDDDD
copa @ Dec 27th 2007 12:58PM
Forza for $15, that's a good deal.
James @ Dec 27th 2007 1:00PM
It's a shame we don't care much about games where I'm from to get some good deals like this. Still, £13 for FF:Tactics I'd consider a steal.
Chad Larson @ Dec 27th 2007 1:07PM
Am I the only one who thinks that paying 50% for a game that gamefly's already made money off of, and has been WELL used (unlike Gamestop, which generally only has 1 owner, who played it once) is a ripoff?
johnny g @ Dec 27th 2007 1:12PM
thats a VERY good point
Neon Jebus @ Dec 27th 2007 1:16PM
I can understand your point. But I have purchased many games via GameFly and many times I can hardly see a single scratch on the disc. I have never had a problem with a single game I have purchased.
I also usually see better prices via GameFly than I do at GameStop.
Yoshi Likes Boys @ Dec 27th 2007 1:29PM
Yeah, EXCEPT, as noted, GameFly used game discs are generally in great condition, and the box/manual are in PRISTINE, NEW condition, at a better price to boot, as opposed to the case sitting on the shelf with a sticker on them.
Chad Larson @ Dec 27th 2007 1:31PM
Well, that's good to hear, re: the scratches. But I still think it's a bit of a ripoff. After all, Gamestop buys their used games from consumers (I dunno if they give a fair price, or not. That's outside the scope of the arguement) whereas Gamefly's probably made at least twice what the game cost in rental fees off of any game they sell. yet, the game I'm interested in (Hoshigami) is only 3 bucks less expensive at Gamefly than at Gamestop. So much for "steep discount"
Neon Jebus @ Dec 27th 2007 1:35PM
Chad you mentioned fair price on trade in's. The answer is a massive NO. They rip people off on the trade in value.
As for pricing. One advantage on being a member is that you get a discount on the everyday pricing. After 3 months (I think) you save 5%. Sure it's usually a couple of cents off. After a year you get 10% off. You also receive a $5 off coupon once a quarter to use on Used Game purchases. So there is added savings there.
And, as always, free shipping.
zlionsfan @ Dec 27th 2007 2:31PM
The thing about GameFly is that they aren't collecting rental "fees": the game you buy may have been sent out to 30 different people in the last year, or maybe it just went to one guy's house where it sat on the shelf for 12 months and then he finally remembered that he had it and sent it back. I suppose they have some method of estimating income based on memberships and games checked out, but there isn't a direct relationship there.
I've been a member for almost two years; when I buy used games, they're typically games I've rented. I just pay the "keep it" price and they send the box and manual. That way I already know the quality of the disc and whether or not I like the game.
If you buy one sight unseen, then it's not dissimilar to buying a DVD from a movie-rental place. (Not that kind of place - that's a completely different story.) As long as there's a guarantee, it's worth a shot if you don't mind used games.
I prefer to buy used games, unless it's something I really want at launch, or unless I panic because I'm exchanging gifts in a couple of days and there's no parking around the good used-games store and I just want to get away from the insane people and the insane traffic.
Russ Carroll @ Dec 27th 2007 4:19PM
My experience is that the games are cheaper, they are in better shape, and I get the box and manual, both of which are very important to me. In buying used I definitely would pick GameFly over GameStop if they both had the same games available. Of course, they rarely do have the same games available, so I shop both...but regardless I refuse to buy at GameStop unless I get original box and manual.
NATO_Duke @ Dec 28th 2007 10:36AM
I dont see why you have a problem with this. If the games still have a market value, then what is the problem with them selling them to you? You cant expect them to suddenly say they will give the games away for free just because they had made money off renting them.
I just bought 3 games for the 360 from them a sec ago, and the total was about $35.00 - last I checked, that is about 50% off of one game (yet I got 3!) - so I think its a pretty darn good deal and maybe you should get over the need to bitch and moan and just take a good deal when it shows itself.
Obie @ Dec 27th 2007 1:14PM
I just bought Rainbow Six Vegas and Twilight Princess for $30...hot damn!
Korova @ Dec 27th 2007 1:17PM
Table Tennis for 20bucks? Maybuy
T3H WICKERMAN (FDF) @ Dec 27th 2007 1:29PM
you can get that new for that price.
samfish @ Dec 27th 2007 1:30PM
I'm tempted to pick up Grim Grimoire.
And Dewy's Adventure isn't a bad price for $25 bucks if you like platformers.
...game seriously isn't worth $50, though.
Odin Sphere is a freakin' fantastic deal for $20.
So is Valkyrie Profile 2.
Everything else looks like junk, for my value.
Mr. P @ Dec 27th 2007 2:25PM
It's really not that much of difference. I remember buying Odin Sphere from them for about $25 (free ship) a few months ago. But yes, it's an awesome price for an awesome game.
Jerk Face @ Dec 27th 2007 1:41PM
Odin Sphere for twenty bucks? Ooh...
JodyAnthony (death by snoo-snoo) @ Dec 27th 2007 1:44PM
picked up a copy of Ninjabread man. I dont care how god-awful it will be, the name just makes me laugh.
samfish @ Dec 27th 2007 2:10PM
Oh man, it's bad. Trust me. It's REAL bad.
Mr. P @ Dec 27th 2007 2:23PM
When it comes to used games, I love GameFly. Their games are in such great condition that I often keep my rentals. Plus the prices are unbeatable (even before this sale).
Mike @ Dec 27th 2007 2:28PM
I got Lost Planet for $10..
carg0 @ Dec 27th 2007 2:30PM
buying games from Gamefly is second to none.
better prices, discs are GUARANTEED (unlike Gamestop) and brand new manual/case are shipped FREE. if you're too ignorant to comprehend those benefits do the world a favor and get sterilized.
navstar @ Dec 27th 2007 6:07PM
Outside of some used bargains on Amazon.com, Gamefly is the best place to buy used game. I got Bioshock USED for $40 just two weeks after the game's release.
deaftly @ Dec 27th 2007 3:12PM
Phrantoast wins, that was great
deaftly @ Dec 27th 2007 3:13PM
god dammit
unfriendly_cat @ Dec 27th 2007 3:56PM
Be careful, the tax is not included in the prices shown (not sure if this is true for all states or only NJ). Still got a good deal though.
zlionsfan @ Dec 28th 2007 5:20PM
I think you're right - the price shown is the base price, total would be with tax and (for non-members) shipping. Also, members' loyalty rewards ($5 off, if you haven't used it yet, and 5%/10% off) are applied on checkout.
I picked up All-Pro Football for $4.23. I figure it's not bad for a game with no career mode. If it sucks, well, I'm out less than $5.
