Smash Bros. Brawl gets Coin Launcher, Dragoon, and sharing

A trio of updates to the Smash Bros. Brawl DOJO reveal a handful of new features sure to excite the patient fanbase, while confuse the average gamer. First was yesterday's announcement of the Coin Launcher, a minigame of sorts to collect the game's myriad collectibles. Play matches to earn coins, use coins in the Coin Launcher, collect virtual gewgaws. Excited yet? How about a three-part superpowered rideable dragon, err, Dragoon? You can collect the three pieces during a battle, snag parts from your opponents, and assemble the "legendary Air Ride machine." Once you've got it, that's a one-hit KO. Still not excited? Put down those barbiturates and check this out: some pics of the game's sharing functionality, to blast levels and screenshots to your chums.

Flying around in the Dragoon was probably the best thing about Kirby's Air Ride.

Every time something comes up and I think I can't be more excited for this game, then something new comes up and I'm more excited. I really can't wait for this game.

You should just dedicate the rest of Friday to Brawl news.

Sonic's Final Smash was shown earlier this week. That's one post.
No updates next week. That's another news post.
The game's supposedly gone Gold. That's another one.
Supposedly Mega Man won't be in Brawl is a few weeks old, but another post.

As an occasional member from there, I agree. Most of their arguments are insane, stupid or ridiculous, and some of them can last for 2+ weeks, if the thread doesn't end up locked. That, and the fact that there are so many "Official [character] for Brawl!!" threads, that the discussions on those threads can make you laugh sometimes. I would've done a "WCC for Brawl" thread, but it might've as well end up locked and I would've been warned or I would've end up banned. Most likely the former.

Eh, I think I might go back there by New Year's Eve, even if most of the staff is uptight.

I still can't believe that SMG won GOTY at Gamespot.

This is just so unbelievable! I mean, in a year like this with some many good games out there they choose SMG ?? WTF? I might be crazy or something but I bought a Wii 2 weeks ago with Mario galaxy and I sold it the very next day. It did not appeal to me in any way. It felt like 10 years had never passed. It felt like a little kids game. I think the DS could put out the same graphics too. Anyways its just not my cup of tea.

Sorry Nintedo Fanboys, but its just my opinion...

Another reason why GOTY is bad. Certainly Galaxy deserves it, but so do many other titles, and its hard to compare the joy of zipping around beautifully rendered spherical worlds to the joy of rocking out with your friends, to the joy of blasting portals into walls, and learning about cake and its lies

Translation: I couldn't get past the Luigi's Purple Coins level, so I got pissed at the game and gave up on it.

Yeah, I guess the little kids game was a bit much for him. He should play more Bioshock. It's infinitely easier than SMG (because of the vita-chambers). It's also my choice for runner-up GOTY, right behind SMG.

Just for the record, I beat the game the Luigi's Purple Coins level.

I never noticed how phallic Dragoon looks until you said that, and i played Kirby Air Ride a lot back in the day (it had an Achievements system of its own, which was very fun)

I guess I'm starting to be the only one concerned was they keep announcing more and more stuff. Not that it's ADDING more options and such, but rather how they will balance it out. I mean, Nintendo doesn't patch so any drastically overpowering explots are there forever.

I wouldn't see the concern, yet

I mean, sure, Dragoon is one-hit KO, but for a guaranteed KO, you're better off with the home run bat, since with this you need to accumulate three parts (if they even appear), and accumulate all three parts before you die

Hell, you'd be better off just killing your foe item-less, i could see this being used as often as Mr. Game and Watch's Oil Panic attack (where you needed to absorb three energy-based attacks, and it was only worth it if they were strong)

Don't forget the fact that it can hit multiple foes from both sides, unlike the bat, which hits only from one side. Still, if you face against a hardcore/competitive smasher, it'll simply dodge the attack.

Also, keep in mind that air dodge and sidestep dodge count for a miss, but Sakurai didn't mention that the attack can be blocked with the shield. Does this mean that the Dragoon is a 1-hit shield crusher? Well, the homerun bat doesn't break shields on one hit, but rather takes a chunk out of it.

And it seems the Dragoon is going to be super-fast, so if you aren't that good of a smasher, trying to dodge it will be a hassle.
