This Wednesday: Microsoft to roll Metal Slug 3 onto XBLA
We know that there are some of you who have already tired of your holiday toys, and while we think this is incredibly selfish and that you should be ashamed, Microsoft has stepped up, announcing an "updated version" of Metal Slug 3 for Xbox Live Arcade. The game will roll onto the service next Wednesday, January 2, and promises updated HD visuals and two player co-op over Xbox Live, along with all of the 'rocket lowncher' antics you can handle. So, for those of you who are just like my mother, and are never satisfied, prepare to fork over a cool 800 MS Points ($10). There, happy now?

Are you okay commander?
MACHINE GUN

5000 point achievement: Finishing the game without dying once.
Obie @ Dec 28th 2007 1:41PM
WHOA! Metal Slug with online co-op? Hot damn!
aaron_k7 @ Dec 28th 2007 1:44PM
Dude PSN...please give me something other then "Rampart" and "Rampage"...sheesh.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 28th 2007 3:24PM
I want Gauntlet II on XBLA, not Gauntlet.
Mighty Healthy @ Dec 28th 2007 4:28PM
I'd gladly kill for some online Rampart...that game needs an online multi redux.
...even Rampage, I'd love to see on XBLA.
aaron_k7 @ Dec 28th 2007 4:43PM
Is Rampart really that cool? The PSN offering got abysmal reviews from what I saw. I dunno, suppose I could give it a chance. I just wish there was more to choose from on the Playstation store.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 28th 2007 11:55PM
Rampart requires a trackball, really.
aaron_k7 @ Dec 29th 2007 2:44AM
Thanks for the tip...I'll pass on it then.
Jose @ Dec 28th 2007 1:44PM
Hey, I just noticed the Metal Slug announcer guy does the same "American Accent" as Ludwig in the podcasts.
Or should I say, "Pawyudd-cahyust!"?
Jerk Face @ Dec 28th 2007 1:47PM
So are these games as baller as they look?
James @ Dec 28th 2007 1:52PM
Too late MS, I was given the better value anthology pack for the PSP and bought the Wii version sealed for £13.
Ho hum.
roxxxo @ Dec 28th 2007 2:00PM
more like bah humbug
Tetranitrocubane @ Dec 28th 2007 2:11PM
Too bad the Wii version sucks large Alien tentacles. Seriously, if it's still sealed, you have no idea how horrid the controls are.
baby sea tuna @ Dec 28th 2007 2:14PM
OMG! James hates a 360 game and loves the Wii version?! Someone alert the media! Let's take advantage of this slow news day...
Stevie @ Dec 28th 2007 2:20PM
Keep in mind this version has 2 player co-op over Live. That alone is the reason why I'm buying this version.
DBuck_Eye @ Dec 28th 2007 2:21PM
MSA worked perfectly fine if you just used a gamecube/classic controller.
deaftly @ Dec 28th 2007 2:38PM
online co-op wins all
James @ Dec 28th 2007 5:25PM
No I just hate when someone charges me too much for something that costs much less in anthology/collection form.
With a GC controller I find the controls perfect *shrugs*, but the PSP is my version.
Baby Sea Tuna; I also have a thing against Sonic on the VC since it's much cheaper to buy the Mega Collection on the GC. So stop being a twat by thinking you know people, thanks.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 29th 2007 12:03AM
"bought the Wii version sealed for £13"
So... you're bragging you bought a horrible version of the game for £13 when the Xbox Live Arcade version is £6.80, has online co-op, and you can actually demo before you play?
What kind of demented moron are you? Oh, a blind fanboy. (rolling eyes)
DEEZNUTZ @ Dec 28th 2007 2:11PM
Damn you Jason, now I can't get that damn Prince song out of my head
baby sea tuna @ Dec 28th 2007 2:18PM
I love how the "upgraded HD visuals" for most of the XBLA reissues (i.e. Contra, Smash TV, Time Pilot, this) basically just translates into "running the entire game through the pallette knife filter in Photoshop to take out the jaggies."
That said, this was probably my favorite Metal Slug so I'm sure I'll be picking this up come Wednesday.
bm @ Dec 28th 2007 2:55PM
Yeah, I was just about to say the same thing. Those emulator HQ2X filters or whatever look like complete fucking barf.
OH BUT ITS BETTAR CUZ ITS HIGH RES INNIT
Just put on some regular old bilinear interpolation and be done with it, not this ugly shit.
BPM - The 3rd Strike @ Dec 28th 2007 9:36PM
SuperEagle... 2xSaI... Super2xSaI... I never really understood the difference between those filters... All I knew is I hated them.
Leobebes @ Dec 28th 2007 2:24PM
Am I the only who thinks Time Pilot was pure unadulterated ass?
baby sea tuna @ Dec 28th 2007 2:44PM
I thought it aged very well, actually.
l0tus @ Dec 28th 2007 2:41PM
"updated HD visuals?" Looks just like that Kawaks NG emulator with the SuperSai filter turned on...except my PC runs it at an even higher rez... :P
Jason @ Dec 28th 2007 2:55PM
Sounds like awesome fun esp the co-op, if I had a 360 I'd get it.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 28th 2007 2:55PM
I would so love to dl this, but I can't cause my xbox won't recover my gamertag.
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON MICROSOFT???
roxxxo @ Dec 28th 2007 4:42PM
did you try talking to their support? either via website or phone?
Luke @ Dec 29th 2007 4:31AM
I once tried talking to microsoft and it took forever, it was OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAD seconds.
kftgr @ Dec 28th 2007 3:27PM
Definitely will be getting this. Online co-op FTW! And only $10...cheaper than the fugged up Wii version (but not as good as the anthologies). That all said, still waiting for Omega 5, Rez, and Castle Crashers.
mundox @ Dec 28th 2007 3:51PM
omg online coop :o
Ever heard of MAME? XD
James @ Dec 28th 2007 5:29PM
Some games I find are good for online play, some I don't. This being one of them.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 28th 2007 11:58PM
MAME doesn't do Neo*Geo, you dumb fuck.
Mr.ESC @ Dec 28th 2007 4:16PM
OH GOD YES;YEEES!!!
I'm glad I saved my MS points.
Diskoboy @ Dec 28th 2007 4:45PM
And thank god I got a 4000 point card for Xmas... Cause I'm all over this and Rez HD when it eventually comes out.
But I have to admit, my favorite Metal Slug was Metal Slug X. It reminds me of art school - they had a Neo-Geo in the cafeteria, and I'd play MSX until my next class.
dsub @ Dec 28th 2007 5:00PM
I wish they would start making these games have 16:9 support. I'd be much more inclined to buy if my Arcade games that supposedly have "enhanced HD visuals" would actually take up my entire screen.
Jonah Falcon @ Dec 28th 2007 11:59PM
The reason is not because they can't fill up the space with graphics. The reason is that the AI and gameplay has to be true to the original.
Todd @ Dec 31st 2007 12:44PM
I am not sure why someone wouldn;t just spend $5 more and get all of the Metal Slug games in the Anthology...
I have the PS2 version and enjoy it.
Dadidito @ Dec 29th 2007 11:00PM
Microsoft has totally f-ed up this weekend. Still now on day 3 sign on or keep a connection to live. Great job f-heads.
Went on the live forums and the moderators are threatening to temp bann members for continuing to post new threads about it and are also asking not to call support about it since they already know.
