VC Friday: Nintendo plays Santa

Turns out that yours truly may have been hitting the eggnog a little too hard, as this week's PAL Virtual Console release update actually appeared back on Tuesday (a.k.a Christmas Day), rather than the usual Friday. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! is the sole title to appear on the final PAL VC update of the year, but it's a worthwhile addition, nonetheless, and superior to the second game in the trilogy to which it belongs, even if it does lack a playable Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong. Put it this way - we could have received worse things for Christmas.

That's quite a sentence you have there! I always disliked DKC3 but I might give it another try when it makes it to the states.

Ah! Thanks, guess I missed it with all of my holiday stuff. Although I have to agree with Troy that DKC2 > DKC3. Looking back at some old reviews, it looks like the critics agree.

Your assurance that it is better than the 2nd game saddens me and makes most of my heart die.

Poor PAL gamers... one game for Christmas? That's Nintendo's way of saying, "We hate you." No offense.

I think it will be cool too but sheesh putting a space between those letters doesn't make it 'family friendly.' We all swear sometimes here, though we all try not to, but can't you imagine that there are some young Wii fans in the world? Well, come to think of it, they've probably heard all those words before. Anyway, I would like that channel too but I'm not stressing about it.

I mean there was lots innovative about DKC3, perhaps the main reason I like 2 best is because I was 11 when I first played that and I didn't play DKC3 until little over a year ago. Nostalgia does wonders! But I think DKC2 is a Perfect Game and DKC3 is 'merely' an awesome sequel to a perfect game, do you know what I mean?

Know what, good riddance; Europe had 3 weeks of stellar releases while the US had crap all month long.

DKC3 was inferior to 2. Mainly because of a lack of an actual themed structure, and most levels relying on unique gimmicks for that specific level(Which never show up again, Lightning Lookout anyone?) DKC2 also has better music, graphics and a better final boss.

DKC > All other DKC
