maybe it's xvid im thinking of. i know there's some format that is flaky streaming over the net, and works after copying to the hd. if you use tversity, it's probably doing some transcoding and not using the native ps3 goodness.

Sony makes damn fine HDTVs (a bit overpriced) and hand radios, but that's about it. My PS3 is hooked up to my Bravia, but right now the only things that get use out of it are Guild Wars and my 360. Have my Wii hooked up in the living room since you only play the thing when friends are over.

Ah, it took a while before the first Wii mention. Nice job too how you worded it, like "-you- only play it when friends are over" as if that applies to anybody, and not just certain people that don't buy any games just to try and make a point.

I meant it as "one only plays the Wii when people are over" and that's the truth. It just isn't fun FOR ME to play the console by myself.

Besides the high interest rate, people keep forgetting that applying for more credit cards hurts your credit score. That's why so many people are up to their ears in debt with crappy credit...they apply for credit cards in order to save a quick buck without realizing their credit score is taking a hit every time they do so, costing them money in the long run.

I'm european and we don't really use CCs much over here, it's very difficult to even get one (fairly long process), and we certainly don't have some kind of odd system like that. I only half understand it, that sounds like some kind of videogame, only in real life.

God... I want a BRAVIA... a free PS3 would be awesome, since I'm not going to buy/be able to buy one for several months... I'm only 15 and working on building my own Gaming rig :P

Vol, Just had a look at your post history, and you are plainly lying when you say you have a PS3.
And you just highlighted how impressive the PS3 performance has been in selling as many as the 360 did in its first year.
Its not just having much more competition than the 360 did, the one-year advantage for the 360 in games, higher price point - its also the blatant lies that are spread about it on the net and media.

"Sony...overhyped, overpriced, underdelivering, non-game playing, online incompetent, protein folding, non-rumble, non-hd-cable bearing, six-axis, 30 FPS, POS3 Blu-Ray player "
Lets try some facts shall we?
overhyped: halo 3?
overpriced: about 50$ more than 360, with free multiplayer, free to change hard-disc, blu-ray added in
Underdelivering: what do you mean by that? defect rate too low for you?
Non-game playing: Compare games available on PS3 versus what 360 owners had in their first year - most of the best titles 360 had in year 1(GRAW, R6, Oblivion, all except Gears for which the definitive version is on PC anyway) PLUS Uncharted, R&C, Motorstorm, Resistance, NG Sigma, UT3, Warhawk, heavenly plus additional kickass non-exclusives like CoD4
online incompetent: which shows again that you are a liar and have never played with the PS3 online community for Resistance, Motorstorm, CoD4, Warhawk, all lag-free and best of all, FREE
protein folding - ha ha
Non-rumble - another 3 months or so?
Non-hd-cable bearing - costs about $10, or $170 odd less than the inflated price for 360 hard discs
30 FPS: I can recall maybe two games, including Madden. In comparison, witness the freezing, and other technical glitches in mass Effect (excellent game still) versus the smoothness of Uncharted / R&C. Guess which console has lower load times in Oblivion or DMC4?
POS3 Blu-Ray player - versus noisy tray-loading DVD player?

hence the SDF name.

I think it was a decent retort. The key thing for the next year of the PS3 is it needs a big seller like Halo 3 - it needs some big months much like the 360 had in its second year.

but both systems are pretty capable, and it'll come down to the exclusives. multi platforms will pretty much be the same, though DMC 4 is looking much nicer on the PS3 with the audio support and load times with the guaranteed hard drive. 360 has some better ones as well.

SDF,

If you had a 360 and knew WTF you were talking about, you wouldn't be taking 20 minutes out of your time to repute my smack.

I have a PS3, 60 GB model. I am invested in all 3 consoles and want them all to succeed.

Hmmm, let's look at this for a moment....

Best Buy did a similar deal, then later did one for 360. A local Rent to Own by me did a deal where if you signed up for a TV and paid for a full year, they'd give you a Wii. Several cars have had free computer deals and even 360's were given away once. High ticket items + interest rates = ability to give shit away for free.

NOW. Let's look at the deal itself. TV's almost always have between a 40%-55% mark up. These TVs, unlike those being sold at stores under MSRP, these ARE being sold at MSRP. So right there you have a huge amount of money being made. Statistically, few people pay off those no interest deals in time. So essentially you have an instant money maker which is almost certain to snag at least $700 in profit... and they are throwing in a $400 game console to GET more people in one this deal.

The whole thing is certainly a scam, make no mistakes, but certainly not a sign of weakness and needing to sell PS3s.

I know plenty of people who haven't gone for HDTV yet. They're far from the be-all end-all which is why I'm hedging my bets with them SED TV's. I just find it laughable that you need to spend £1500 on an LCD to get the same quality image and viewing angle available on £200 same inch SDTV, just to have it in a higher resolution and thinner.

I'll wait till all this HDMI updating and "standards" shifting has ended too.

yeah, a real steal if you're interested in paying FULL SUGGESTED RETAIL for Sony's TVs on their website. You can easily buy a Bravia/XBR online from Crutchfield/CircuitCity for $400-500 less than the suggested retail, which when you buy the PS3 is the SAME PRICE as what Sony's online site is for giving you a "free" PS3.

oh, and when you don't pay off that credit card bill?? you give Sony MORE money! Have fun!!

so, in conclusion:
1) nothing is EVER "free"
2) bundled packages are RARELY a bargain

Sorta. My PSP Slim bundle was £135, £5 more than the usual but with a £30 game thrown in.

Just wished they threw in a measly 32mb memory stick too the penny pinching b-stards.
