CVG picks the Best and Worst Box Art of 2007

I liked the box art but I think it should have been in a black case with the white border black and with the Wii in the blue.

I think that would have been tits.

"Bioshock: Big, stomping metal death with a dash of spooky. Nice" Looks more like "big happy robot is shouting 'go team!'" I never liked the bioshock cover.

Orange box came in that ridiculously bright camo orange plastic box. I like it, just because it sticks out like crazy. Seeing as they've already switched to a black plastic case, I guess nobody else did.

Whoever wrote that is an idiot. Crysis and Halo 3 definitely have better than average box art. Some of the ones he likes have crap box art.

The Orange Box, though, has terrible box art. Valve games always do, because they don't care about IRL distribution; they just pimp their Steam. Since its in EA's hands, they probably just go with the cheapest box to make-- appreciate the lack of manuals?

Box art, guides, and special features are some of the only things that people miss out on when they pirate the game. So, Christ, at least make those things nice.

RE4: Wii Edition's European boxart works on an artistic level. However, it completely fails on actually representing the gameplay. The American boxart more accurately conveys what the game is, and ends up being better overall for it.

Some of those entries on their worst of list are dated so badly ... Fire Pro, DoND, Camelot, I'm looking at you. It's like 1991 box arts all over again. Speaking of such, they are so ON about the Orange Box artwork! Awful.

If you didn't get a chuckle out of the Darts game for the Wii, you got no sense of humor. That has to be the one guaranteed laugh you get in the category of, um, lol, sports games. Oh, and bowling games too. They usually suck and have the accompanying retarded box art to back 'em up.

Clearly they are just reaching pretty far on this one. Halo, Metroid, Crysis, Supreme Commander... maybe they had lame covers, but you mean to tell me they were worse than Chicken Shoot on the Wii? Or Anubis II?

I'm amazed at how many of these games I own but don't recognize the box art. All my games go into a game wallet for their respective system. So it's like I'm seeing the box art for the first time even though I've played these games since release. =P

This list does kinda suck. Heavenly Sword, she's just standing there, looking bored. Maybe in Europe that's an "action" pose, I dunno. Here in America, that's a "Honey, we've been in Best Buy for two hours, can we please go now?" pose. Bioshock's box art is just plain cheesy. I know the entire gaming industry has a hardon for that game, but just looking at that box, I would think the game was a mediocre shooter. Uncharted doesn't really say anything about the game. It makes it look more like a Turok game (now featuring a white guy!) than an action-adventure game. I'm not going to say anything about the Wario Ware case other than I was immediately repulsed by it upon picking it up. That case I did remember, and not in a good way. Why the hell are Crysis and Supreme Commander on the bad list? Giant robots and super-futuristic suits are uncool nowadays? (Back in my day, we nerds loved robots and super suits! We didn't have any of your sissy zombies or ninjas or women!) Legend of Camelot deserves to be on an awesomely bad list, not the bad list. The Orange Box speaks to the sheer market recognition of Half-Life 2 that all they need to do is say what's in the box. You have to give them credit for being that ballsy. Besides, Joe Public sees that he's buying 5 games (actually only about 2.5, but we'll let that slide) for the price of one. The Umbrella Chronicles case is just too busy. Finally, the second Samus IS DARK SAMUS. This box art tells more about the game than most of the games here, and it gets dinged for it?!
