Rumor: UT3 on Xbox 360, 90% complete
Considering it's due on the Mac in early 2008, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the on-again, off-again Xbox 360 port of Epic's Unreal Tournament III isn't "on hold" any longer, and may even be as far along as 90% complete – if we're to believe a scanned image from a German gaming magazine. Our German is a bit rusty (read: nonexistent) but the folks from MaxConsole are saying the release is expected sometime around April of next year.
If accurate, that means the PS3 enjoys a four-or-so-month timed exclusivity, including the lucrative holiday season. Now, if only those pesky sales would pick up ...

Gotta recoup their development costs somehow...
jynxycat @ Dec 31st 2007 6:36PM
lol...
Epic doesn't need money. Licensing out the engine alone will make them plenty.
Dustin @ Jan 1st 2008 12:17AM
Unless they lose the lawsuits, that is.
Zeus the God @ Jan 1st 2008 12:26AM
The lawsuits that they'll win? Yeah, no need to worry about that.
Christmas NiGHTS @ Dec 31st 2007 6:27PM
Did they ever resolve that dispute about Microsoft's edginess towards User-created content?
Christopher @ Dec 31st 2007 6:29PM
Mark even stated..
The team is taking a much needed break.. Development on the 360 version has yet to be determined when to start.
This is nothing but a rumor
Arturo @ Dec 31st 2007 7:47PM
Wrong.
UT3 work started on 360 long ago, they're just taking a break from what they've done so far.
Zeus the God @ Jan 1st 2008 12:26AM
Other than the PC, the first working demo of the game was on the 360.
steve @ Jan 2nd 2008 1:08PM
this is the 360 were talking about. PC -> 360 = very easy. Well, not as easy as a simple recompile, but you don't need to reinvent the universe like a PS3 port.
tylurrxx @ Dec 31st 2007 6:29PM
Man...PC sales are doing horrible, but at least PS3 sales are helping...and 360 sales will only do more.
Poor PC... :(
dustandechoes91 @ Dec 31st 2007 6:35PM
Thats because your average consumer has no idea what a graphics card is, and their pcs probably dont have them. You cant exactly play crysis or cod4 very well on an integrated nvidia 5-series.
Autopsy15 @ Dec 31st 2007 6:50PM
Actually, to run COD4 on the lowest setting doesn't require much. A Nvida 6200 can do it fine. But, obviously Crysis does require a bit more. I tried it out on my Nvidia 6200 on the lowest setting and 512mb of RAM, it got a pretty rough frame rate but wasn't too unplayable.
dustandechoes91 @ Dec 31st 2007 7:00PM
Is yours integrated? Most pc makers push thier crap out with those in them, and they are absolutely horrible. They can however play c&c games, but those have such a minimal spec that on the lowest hardware the newest one will look like red alert 2.
Steve @ Dec 31st 2007 8:12PM
Not as if it's really worth spending hundreds - if not a thousand or so - to upgrade in order to play the rather beyond subpar Crysis. Maybe they should focus on gameplay instead of graphics next time.
dustandechoes91 @ Jan 1st 2008 1:07AM
My $800 pc plays it on all very high at 30 fps. Maybe a several-thousand-dollar dell would be needed, but those are crap, and like most pre-built pc's, a rip-off.
Erwos @ Dec 31st 2007 6:32PM
Of course the 360 version is 90% complete - switching your compile target to "360" isn't exactly difficult if you've got a decently-coded Windows version. That remaining 10% is probably user-generated content issues.
Neebs @ Dec 31st 2007 7:37PM
Wouldn't it be nice if we could just do that?
Jack @ Jan 1st 2008 7:31AM
Your obviously not a developer, as it is never that simple, even on Xbox....
This just falls into the Microsoft viral marketing box, "look, don't buy a PS3 for UT3 or MGS4, we got them too..."
dustandechoes91 @ Dec 31st 2007 6:32PM
It has been said that it is now a lot easier to develop a game for ps3 and port it to 360, which I guess a lot of Devs are doing, so maybe once they got the ps3 version running smoothly they were able to translate that into the 360 version. But then again isnt it easiest to go from pc to 360?
James @ Dec 31st 2007 6:36PM
A lot of devs are doing?
You mean the one game UT3?
Jtenma @ Dec 31st 2007 9:39PM
Oh yeah...james is right...Burnout Paradise is the one game that is being developed for the "3" and being ported to the xbox 360...NO.
James @ Jan 1st 2008 7:30AM
So, other than trying and failing to make witty comments could you please list the games that were developed for the PS3 and ported to the 360?
And comparitively make a list of 360 games ported to the PS3. Thanks.
matthew_neitzer @ Jan 1st 2008 10:03AM
I don't believe many at all are doing this. It has been stated that it would give the PS3 an edge and would make the 360 development a lot easier than the way it is now. In other words, its easier to port a PS3 game to a 360, then the other way around. I don't think many developers are going to do this though. They could care less about the quality of the PS3 versions, because, obviously, there is a much wider 360 base.
Jtenma @ Jan 2nd 2008 5:51PM
NO...that is not what I meant...Let me try this again. You said ONE GAME, my intention was to prove you wrong on that note, in other words WTF R U TALKING ABOUT!
James @ Dec 31st 2007 6:33PM
I might be excited for this if it was a fun game. UT2004 with better graphics doesn't excite me much.
jynxycat @ Dec 31st 2007 6:35PM
It's sad but true.
I'm not sure Epic did much more than just move 2k4 over to the UE3 :P
Who knows why it took them so long for this title to come out.
Triforceowner @ Dec 31st 2007 7:03PM
"port"?
UTIII on the 360 was pretty much finished last April.
Token White Guy @ Dec 31st 2007 7:04PM
Gears ≠ UT. And these graphics are awful.
Zeus the God @ Jan 1st 2008 12:56AM
You're kidding, right? You better be, because if you aren't, you're just blind.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Jan 1st 2008 7:39AM
I'm glad someone else said that besides me. I was highly unimpressed by the graphical/audio presentation of UT3. Bought it on a Tuesday, traded it back in on a Friday.
Qraze @ Dec 31st 2007 7:25PM
i have UT3 4 the ps3 and it's the intense game i have ever played great awesome game but i have a lot of glitches in my copy not in death match/CTF/duel but in ever other part of the game it fncks up and my characters actions r 3 to 5 seconds behind leaving the online co-op unplayible 4 me and i know 4 a fact a buddy also in colombia S.A. is experiencing the same issues as me. the mic support doesn't work so u can't hear or talk 2 anyone!that 1 is cross the whole game everyone is affected by that but i have personal sent 6-7 emails concerning these issues. no reply yet. but i'm sure this will all b fixed with the first update but i can't b 2 hopeful. i love this game though even just the parts i can play it is amazing 2 me the speed of it all!¡!¡! truly a masterpiece and a must own on all systems -Qraze #1_in_the_hood_G!!
Inect @ Dec 31st 2007 7:49PM
Your 3 seconds be hide because your lagging. Go into a server that has a low ping it will work fine. I know i have went into a high ping server before and your shots lag and you don't get into your board fast enough but find a server with 100 or less and you will hardly notice it. If not your to far away but an upgrade in your internet will probable help.
zuburi @ Dec 31st 2007 9:36PM
Did you guys make the jump from the Gamespot forums or something? My God!

"Did you guys make the jump from the Gamespot forums or something? My God!"
No,
They own PS3's
dustandechoes91 @ Jan 1st 2008 1:11AM
Lets try to stay away from a console fanboy fight. Everyone knows which one is more powerful, and which one sells more, and which one is more innovative. Arguing over the new current gen consoles is pointless.
aka Prof Chaos @ Jan 1st 2008 1:17AM
Qraze, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent post were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Jhongerkong @ Dec 31st 2007 7:39PM
My german isnt too good either.
"Komplett"? What the hell?
Ally @ Jan 1st 2008 9:42AM
Complete perhaps?
its hardly roket science is it?

Oh, sorry. I forgot to end it with [/sarcasm].
Jansperus @ Jan 1st 2008 5:56PM
Le grill? What the hell is that?
KeenCommander @ Dec 31st 2007 8:10PM
Maybe if it was better than UT 2003 people would actually buy it. Other than the addition of vehicles which are either useless or overpowered, and an absurdly overpowered rocket launcher, it's the exact same game. It doesn't even look much better, compared to running 2003 at top settings. Biggest waste of my money since Unreal 2. And how is it Unreal Tournament III, last I checked there have been 2 games since UT 1, making this the fourth. Granted 2004 was little more than an expensive expansion pack for 03, but still. Can't people count?
Steve @ Dec 31st 2007 8:23PM
Unreal Tournament
Unreal Tournament 2004
Unreal Tournament 3.
Theyre not counting '03, which is fair enough really. It was originally to be labelled as '07 but they changed it because they were unsure if they were going to get it out the door in time, I heard.
And vehicles are a pretty large addition to the game. There's also a plethora of balance changes and general goodness such as the shiny new engine.
I'm just disappointed the AVRiL is still the noob anti-vehicle weapon that doesnt even require you to aim, and can kill a fair few vehicles in one shot.
jynxycat @ Jan 1st 2008 3:06AM
To be honest, 2k4 was a pretty huge difference from 2003.
But the jump from 2k4 to UT3 is, well... pathetic.
They removed modes, didn't add any weapons, and gave us surf boards.
Geist @ Jan 1st 2008 5:18AM
Manta > all. When I, a gamer who generally sucks at PvP FPS, can go on a twenty man killing spree, something is wrong.
SJ @ Dec 31st 2007 8:31PM
It would be a dumb move not to bring that game over. It would easily sell at least 500,000 copies...probably 1m overall. And I'm just talking about the US.
What other FPS games are there going to be on the 360 in April? Hardly any...this is a very sensible move.
jynxycat @ Jan 1st 2008 3:07AM
GTA IV.
Not an FPS ? Who cares. It will sell a truck load with no other good games coming out in the spring.
GaryM @ Dec 31st 2007 9:08PM
I thought this was always coming to the 360, but it was an "exclusive" to the PS3 for six months or something like that.
Rubber Biscuit @ Dec 31st 2007 9:39PM
UT III for the PS3 is as revolutionary as Halo 2 was. Halo 2 brought a somewhat approximation of PC online fragfests to consoles in a competent manner. However UTIII pretty much renders the PC irrellevant (unless you want to actually make the mods, not just play them like me). I have played every UT on the PC, until I bought this one for my dear PS3, and it truly is everything PC games are thanks to the PS3's open network. Yes, the game is not a big jump in the series, except for the fabulous graphics, but they successfully made it for the consoles without any loss (I guess it is a bit slower for the gamepads, but I didn't notice).
Yoshi Likes Boys @ Dec 31st 2007 10:01PM
The PS3 version is going to be leaps and bounds ahead of the 360 on this one, if only because of the unrealed support. I'm surprised a bigger deal hasn't been made out of that, really.
Zsavior @ Dec 31st 2007 11:02PM
People hit on it but it needs to be said, UT3 was not a great game. Maybe if shooters hadn't progressed so far, this game would have been great, but they have and this shooter was not very interesting.
