Oh stop you hidden ps3 fanboy.

I've seen PSN, because I own a ps3 also.

XBL blows PSN away, hands down. I'll pay $60 a year for such an awesome service. If you say otherwise, not only are you a moron, you're a Sony fanboy like no other. Only people who ONLY own a ps3 rant and rave of how great PSN is.

Compenstation Chart
(based on standard $49.99 for 12mo. service*)
(*13mo gold cards are a retailer speciality, microsoft
gives you a free month as incentive to buy time in stores to make retailers happy)

Down Time = Amount Owed
1 hour = $0.0057
2hrs = $0.0114
3hrs = $0.0171
4hrs = $0.0228 (woohoo 2 cents!)
5hrs = $0.0285
6hrs = $0.0342
7hrs = $0.0399
8hrs = $0.0456 (currently my approximate downtime!)

total for a week offline = $0.9576

now you can all know exactly how much microsoft owes you for your downtime, and send them a letter detailing your bill to them :)
or you can grow a pair and quit whining like a baby!
while I personally think major nelson is kind of a tool I appreciate all he and the xbox live team do to keep xbox live up and running smoothly 99.997%** of the time...

**currently my TOTAL downtime since joining in Jun 2006
--18hrs on the halo 3 launch crash 09/25/2007
--4hrs on fri 12/21/2007
--4hrs on sat 12/29/2007

What everyone seems to be missing is that all of this was preventable. EVERY SINGLE BIT OF IT!
MS new how many xboxes were sold comming upto and into this Holiday season. They knew and we knew that there would be alot of NEW acounts comming online and yet THEY (MS) did NOTHING to prepare for it. This shiznit is common F'n sense.
Fanboy or not, They owe all of us some type of comp. Money isn't the issue. Usability is!

Well should have seen it coming...yes xbox360 sold well, I bought ours cause the PS3 was higher in pricing, if it wasn't for that we'd be on it instead. Sadly it seems xbox does have issues with the box design being not conductive to heat release, and the power brick needing cooling too. The sooner they change the case to a standard PC style (well gotta admit the current case looks like a toilet paper roll someone sat on) with full fan setup, normal style power supply the better we'll all be.

I think that we Live users should have compensation for this week, I've been getting frustrated over this like many other people and I want Bill Gates to give me a years worth of live (never going to happen). But I think these guys should be allowed to speak their voice. I don't get why the thread is being locked other than Microsoft is afraid people will bad mouth them. The thread is a way for people to voice their opinions and maybe get some assurance that they as customers are getting their voices heard by the guys up at Microsoft. Unless the thread is demanding free Xbox live forever or something as a reaction to nothing at all, I think that the thread should be open for people to speak their minds.

Come on guys, don't say they aren't doing anything to fix problem when they are. People just keep signing in and that hurts servers more, you would be pretty amazed at how many people sign into live in about ten minutes, some where around 60,000 when I was on Halo came out of a match and the number rose by that much. Live seems to be working when it isn't peak hours, then when the peak hours hit live drops out again, so they are working to sustain the servers. I would say by end of week all will be fine, because I'm sure they are short on people to fix the issue.

That's odd. The PSN has never went down. I guess that's one more thing the PS3 can do that Microsoft can't. Oh yeah, my PS3 also still works! I know you guys won't believe it because you are so used to hardware failure, but it's true. I've never heard of a PS3 breaking.........ever.

OK, so we don't have XBL... truly this is not the end of the world.. or maybe it is... I mean, am I the only one who can't get a freakin matchmaking game in Halo3?!?!?!? Custom games are only entertaining for so long, same goes for playing any games in campaign mode.. I agree there should be some compensation for time lost on XBL, even if I have come to expect nothing but problems from somthing that is Microsoft created.

The problem is clearly is that the servers can't handle this many people logging in at once. Also we had these problems with the launch of the Halo 3 Beta (just on it) and Halo 3. Microsoft should fix this problem but by the time they get it fixed everyone will be back at school/work. Also Major Nelson is'nt doing anything. Earlier today I saw his gamertag and he was playing Call of Duty 4

I love the idiots that say stuff like, "go outside, quit bitching, insert moronic comment here that shows they don't understand the issue." I'll use small words so you guys can understand. When you buy a car, you expect it to work whenever you want it. You don't drive your car 24/7, do you? When you buy a cellphone, or rather, sign a contract for service (similar to xbox live service..make the connection yet, geniuses?),you expect to use your cellphone whenever you want. You don't use your cellphone 24/7, do you?

it's the same issue. You pay for something, you expect to get it. All the comments about going outside or to stop whining serve only one purpose: to show the commenter's complete lack of understanding regarding the issue.

Christ, i don't even have XBL, i'm just tired of reading the same stupid comments over and over again.

Yeah, well think about how many people dont have it? And i got it back within 24 hours. But it was down on xmas.. witch was a bad idea for MS, since EVERYONE is getting either LIVE, 360, or new games to play on live. So in almost every form, they are getting live.. And there are millions of users. (# of live users) x 2$ = A LOT OF CASH.

I feel ya Dave.

All of this even after the age old debate of charging for XboxLive to begin with, which I personally think is a rip. There's obviously plenty of money going into microsoft's pockets after this holiday season and have been from all of the sales of EVERYTHING they sale on either the sales floors or on the marketplace online.

I think this is kinda of funny because this is backfiring in the face of money hungry microsoft. I mean c'mon with all of their planning intelligence and billions of dollars, they couldnt foresee an incident such as this taking place. The more product you sell, the more service you have to supply... and what might could be the cause of it? Surely its a bandwidth problem,,, Hello more equiptment! Yeah that cost a little more out of their Execs budget for fancy dinners and nice cars etc.. They'll havta just suck it up, with the bad publicity too.

And to all who disagree or bash the ones who say they're sick of it and feel they need reparation...
Have a little understanding.
People work hard for their money, at least most of us do, and time is often more valuable to most than the the pennies they spend on the minutes they've wasted trying to figure the problem of a non-working online game they just purchased, and experience they've anticipated.
So if you expect everyone to just sit back and be a little "Sally" and not expect compensation or at least vent a little frustration, then prepare for yourself a life of getting walked on and taken advantage of by the bullies of the world. And by "frustration", I dont mean vulgarity and profanity BTW.

I commend anyone willing to step up and be pro-active in this situation, because by that, your feelings will certainly be remembered in the future, and this will be less likely to happen again.(not that it wont)
Don't expect this adoptive "big brother" to stand up for you, when all you really are is pretty much just a stack of virtual pennies printed out on a quaterly revenue memorandum that will get crumpled and tossed so easily, if you allow it.

To all of those who are complaining that you can't play your games...well, you can. You just can't play them online.

Get some real life friends to come over, and it's just like multiplayer. Suck it up.

There is a weekly downtime for WoW. I pay for that. However, you don't hear the millions of subscribers calling for a refund for the 4 days a week it's down for the majority of the day.

XBOX Live is a Shame. Its been bad for me for about a week now and when i called them i have recived comments and this quote that i find very intresting i have the phone call recoreded i will post it in youtube in a few days. Jiffer (me) " Why is my xbox live not working?, It will let few people connect and s few not to connect?, I don't get why that is going on ?" Customer agent, "Well Jiffer, Xbox Live only has enough room for so many names on each of its server, In the last few weeks we have added many new memberts and it is making our servers not work correctly." Jiffer (me) " So your telling me that this paid service i am paying for and have paid for the last 2 years Xbox can not support its own product?" Customer Agent, " To be honest at the time No."

I agree its annoying, and as lawsuit happy as the world is, I can see why everyone is jumping the bandwagon...

but everyone always leaves out tidbits of information that are important. For example, in the past year, what percentage of uptime was there? I'm willing to bet its near 99%-100% of the time (note I said near, not exactly 100%). Given that, second important piece of information, what amount of uptime does MS guarantee? I'm willing to bet any lawsuit will be thrown out, and as others have said, you're losing pennies a day, relax.

When its back up and running for you, call customer service and find out if there is compensation, and if you really are insistent on getting payback, ask for it, I'm sure they'll credit you the 0.13-$1.00 they owe you to your account.

Life's too short to get bent out of shape over minor things.

I was up playing early 4 est and game play was lousy. nobody on and live freezing. xbox.co was saying live was up and running it took a few hours for the having difficulities message was finally up. I see a lot of stupid comments on here like oh no life has ended because live is down crap. If some one wants to play all day or only an hour or so when their kids go to bed it doesnt matter its a paid service. The big deal is microsoft is saying everything is ok when it is not. They are being very dishonest about the problems. I guess they said it is server overload with everyone jumping on the xbox bandwagon. I love the ps3 fanboys that think its a negative. Its actually great for microsoft. They have more members than they can handle right now. Starting a new service I would say most would want to try it first. Unless you know someone that has it and used it I really doubt all especially adult buyers and players are going to take the plunge and pay for a full year out of the box. So I bet microsoft got a lot of short subs and more of a profit and they could lose short term subs because of this or people that want to wait a couple of months until it gets straighted out. Plus as much as microsoft
wants you to think how much they care about you. They are thinking of sony and the ps3 crowd that are sleeping with a smile on their face because of this. Sony would love to have enough ps3 owners and games worth playing on their service to cause a overload.
