As consumers, we are almost being forced to upgrade to lcd\plasma technology. HD CRT sets are becoming impossible to find and many companies have ceased production completely.

My current 27 inch CRT is 10 years old and still looks perfect. I seriously doubt a plasma or lcd will hold up as well. We are being positioned by television manufacturers to spend a thousand or two every few years. I would love to upgrade but I just cant justify the current and future costs.

This is the exact reason why I think TV repairmen will start showing up again.

I too have a widescreen HD CRT tv, and I got it for less than $300 new. It is awesome for Wii but I just now found out in this article I would have been better off with an EDTV for Wii alone. Oh well, where the hell would I have found that? And the Office looks better on this one, or did when it was on before the strike.

Yeah with a little modification in the TV setup, games can alter quite a bit in how they look on my HDTV, I think it is quite nice, though that blurry effect...

My LG HD CRT (XYZ PDQ) upscales beautifully -- it's one of the reasons I chose this model.

Oh, and since you asked -- my "television standard omniscience" goes largely untapped at social gatherings. I've gotten just enough dots in social skills to know better than to bring it up.

I have a 32" Olevia LCD and it displays the Wii fine in Widescreen and 480p. It doesn't stretch the image either. Depending on the game, there will be black bars across the sides and top/bottom of the screen, keeping the games in their native resolutions. For instance: GHIII fills to the complete left and right of the screen, while RE4 has about an inch wide black bar on the sides of the screenand a cm off the top/bottom.

The only games that do get stretched to the max are N64 games. Even the older VC games only get stretched to a certain point.

I have the same black bar issue as you, they only appear on certain games such as RE4... But my plasma is kinda old and clunky and black bars pose a burn-in issue for me, so it's pretty infuritating.
