Cory Barlog says God of War III in good hands

Cory Barlog, lead developer on God of War II, wrote in his blog today that God of War III is in good hands. Barlog says Sony's Santa Monica team is very talented and he already did the story and design for the third game before parting ways with Sony, he says Kratos' finale will end with a "very big, very epic bang though."

Barlog doesn't give any indication what he's currently working on, simply saying he's "cooking up several things." Poor Kratos seems to chew up and spit out his lead developers. All we need now is the Ready at Dawn lead on God of War: Chains of Olympus to quit after production and we'll have a bona fide curse on our hands -- it'll be the Madden curse of action games.

David Jaffe is still a creative consultant. But yeah its kinda strange how each director doesn't want to work with that studio or sony anymore. This game is truly BRUTAL.

I project a late 09, early 10 release.

What's with games and trilogies nowadays?

Seriously! It seems like it'd be limiting in a lot of cases. How about making as many (or as few) of the games as it takes to get the story across? Instead, it seems like people are pigeonholing themselves into "this series HAS to be three games."

No kidding, I'd rather they made none than three.

I wish they'd make a Zelda trilogy.

God of War 3 is a PS3 EXCLUSIVE and there are NO plans to develop a 360 version of the game. In other words, yeah expect a port in 6 months.

Sony is developing and publishing it. So ... yeah, it's definately a Sony exclusive.

Another sequel fueled by Sony's cash? This is the exact reason why Sony is not doing so well with the PS3. We are getting this same old crap from the same old IPs over and over again. Its the next generation, and gamers don't want to see Rachet or Jak or Kratos or any of those old farts doing their old thing. Sony needs some first party creativity to fuel their system.

Speak for yourself. I definitely want to play God of War 3. The first two were awesome, and the PSP game will be great too.

That's not true, I would love to see another Jak game. And I can't wait to play God of War III.

sony is basically another sega already with low sales of console and a few title that is best to just sell to run on teh 360

gaming wasn't that complex before so a company like sony could do well in a non serious time but only microsoft can do real gaming now so leave it to them - they have the skillz

The Dreamcast had plenty of good games.

as far as I remember, Halo, being the only system seller and developed by Bungie that was back then owned by Microsoft, isn't a hardcore game by any means....

tell me one of Microsoft's first party studios that has a "Hardcore" game....

as far as I remember, Epic, developers of the UT series, which is known as one of the most hardcore franchises, and Gears of War aren't owned by Microsoft...

God of War 3 is a finale? Thats awful. I want more then a PSP and PS3 version. In my opinion, this is Sony's best franchise. It has the best story, presentation, and the gameplay is superb.

actually, I think Jaffe himself said that there is enough space for more games, but that the story would end in GoW 3...blah, I need to find the interview...

So much Sony hate...damn..I WOULD like to see another Jak game though.

hey i love what Sony is doing now with their old and new IP's. i get new versions of the games ive been playing for years (Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Warhawk, etc.) plus some new franchises (Uncharted, Resistance, Heavenly Sword, etc.). plus it's the same thing all the other companies are doing too with games like Halo and Mass Effect for 360 or Mario and the Brain Training games for Wii. its just how it works, if a company finds success with a game then of course they are going to want to tap into that money again. im just glad that alot of these franchises are sticking to trilogies because they can destroy the legacy of a game if they drag it on too long.

Ok, I understand console progression. They want you to buy the latest and greatest in order to keep you buying. But with GOW one and two both on the PS2, I am very saddened to hear that GOW3 is a PS3 exclusive. Call me cheap, call me old fashioned, but I will not buy a Playstation 3 just to finish this series. Looks like I need to start asking around to see which of my friends has one. I'm sorry, but the 360 has outdone the PS3, and I really wanted to own GOW3. :[
