Exclusive Rock Band songs in Feb. OXM
The February issue of Official Xbox Magazine will have three "completely exclusive," albeit obscure songs for Rock Band. The disc contains Freezepop's Sprøde, Bang Camaro's Rock Rebellion and Count Zero's Shake (like our Rock Band weekly feature, we've placed videos of the songs after the break; though we're currently missing Shake).
OXM Editor-in-Chief Francesca Reyes tells Joystiq, "You'll be able to download the songs from the disc onto your [hard drive] and they will remain there with or without the disc in the drive." Does this mean Harmonix could eventually offer retail expansion discs stuffed with songs? That idea is pure speculation, but we'd welcome it in lieu of a full-priced 'Rock Band 2.'

I cant see ANYONE I know trying to "sing" with that freezepop song... but like all thier other songs I'll probably have some fun times playing it
aggrocrag @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:04PM
There are going to be a lot of stolen OXM discs are Borders.
aggrocrag @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:05PM
I'm an idiot, there are going to be a lot of stolen OXM discs at* Borders.
tmacairjordan87 @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:14PM
thank god this is a promotional disc only and not the usual tuesday songs, cause those 2 on the videos sucked pretty bad.
McWeen @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:16PM
By downloading of the disc couldn't you trade/ebay/borrow the hell out of the disc thereby avoiding the purchase of the magazine?
DrNicodemus @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:48PM
Probably. You might even be able to download an image of the thing and burn it like the Guitar Hero 3 demo.
skey @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:19PM
There's no technical reason they can't release expansions like that. That's the way the Oblivion Shivering Isles expansion disc works.
The main 'problem' with doing this is for achievement hounds. You only get a one-time additional 250 achievements points to distribute on expansions.
Boffo the Sock @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:51PM
I'm not sure how many achievement whores play rhythm games for the achievements. In order to get full completion you have to get good at the games, which takes time, time that could be spent getting 1000/1000 Gamer Points in The Golden Compass.

I actually don't feel that retarded for subscribing to OXM with the disc now. Most of the stuff on those disc's are already on the marketplace before the magazine even comes. I usually never even put them in the 360.

Freezepop = sweet and artificial wrapped in plastic
Saria the Cat @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:48PM
Freezepop = awesome. :)
I know /I/ won't have any problem attempting to sing this!
Obie @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:49PM
I remember buying OXM during the old Xbox days.Once you could download the demos for free and sooner on Xbox live I haven't bothered since. I am surprised they are still publishing.
Andy O. @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:22PM
So... Borders is the place for the "free" disc? Want the Freezepop song (Happy to see more than one Freezepop song on Rockband now), but not gonna spend $5 newstand price on the magazine for a copy of the song.

What about the PS3 Version, does this mean we get fucked again!
Ignatius @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:07PM
Developers: What's a PS3?
gwangi @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:00PM
Hmmm I was about to cancel my OXM subscription last year when they released a free Oblivion add-on on the disc so I ended up subscribing for one more year. Now I am about to end my subscription again. Damn you OXM!
TalbainJ @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:16PM
I don't completely get this. Are these songs a one-time exclusive? Or will they show up on XBL eventually?
Nate @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:41PM
What about PS3 users? Disk for us too?
sp @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:03PM
yes, i'm sure oxm is cooking one up for you right now....
Judd @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:08PM
I really liked Less Talk More Rokk and Get Ready 2 Rokk. But Brainpower isn't as good as those two songs, and this Freezepop song just isn't good at all.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:49PM
Sprøde was first released in Frequency, a game published by SCEA. It really helped them to be come popular. And now they are giving exclusive content to Xbox to reward us for helping them become successful.
Odd.
It's far from my favorite song by them anyway.
Chris @ Jan 4th 2008 2:25AM
It was actually Amplitude, the sequal to FreQuency. In FreQ their song Science Genius Girl was featured.
sp @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:05PM
what about the phrase "completely exclusive" is confusing?
sp @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:06PM
this reply system sucks. i by sucks, i mean it's "completely confusing"
Matthew @ Jan 4th 2008 2:04AM
Agh I hated Sprode in Frequency and I'll hate it in Rock Band
Shockgamer @ Jan 4th 2008 12:43PM
Lol, is this the only way OXM, and print magazines in general, are going to remain relevant? By stealing content from the clearly superior online content delivery format and forcing people to buy into outdated dead trees?
Using Count Zero and Freezepop too? That's low. If I had Rock Band I would just sit this out until the exclusivity ends. Nothing OXM exclusive has stayed that way.
serotoninzero @ Jan 23rd 2008 5:07PM
Awesome for Freezepop. I hope they manage to get the Freezepop songs from GH1 and 2 in Rock Band. Two of my favorites from both games. This song was alright in Amplitude, but not as good as the GH songs.
schwal @ Feb 10th 2008 1:13PM
I've been a subscriber since the original Xbox days but I'm just waiting for it to run out. i liked the freezepop song, bang camaro was so/so. but the count zero song was the worst thing since "yes we can" from gh2. and that was the worst "music" ever.
lostinthougt @ Mar 15th 2008 10:31AM
Does anyone know where I can download the OXM FEB 08 to burn..I'd happily pay for the download, these are the only three songs I don't have. Its a complete pain in the a$$ to find a back-issue..
lostinthougt @ Mar 15th 2008 10:32AM
Nevermind....found it :
