We know what you're going to say: "But Joystiq, when Sega makes a crappy
light-gun Wii port, you tease them about it. Why does Konami catch a break?" We're glad you asked and there's actually two reasons: First, because of the struggling, out-of-work FMV actors who can barely scrape together enough coin to buy the cheap, off-brand whiskey; and second, for the sweet, glorious return of bad guys with sunglasses (and, optionally, ski masks). Both of these remnants of gaming's glory days were seemingly lost, until resuscitated in Eugene Jarvis' recent arcade hit (well, insomuch as we have arcade "hits" nowadays),
Target: Terror.
Konami is bringing all the freedom-loving fun home to Wii in Q1 of this year, with "support" for Nintendo's Wii Zapper peripheral (read: the Wiimote still fits in the plastic casing) along with a handful of unlockable mini-games (see: flaming killer golf cart attack mode below). Just remember, each and every copy of
Target: Terror you buy helps put food on the table of an FMV thespian and isn't that worth whatever budget price they attach to this thing? We both know the answer to that one.

They better not charge more than, like, $20 bucks for this.
Baeron @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:16PM
Or: they better not, like, release this.
i_hate_mtv @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:30PM
Hey, cheer up! At least it's better than Disney Sports (being a Nintendo fanboy at the time, I originally said to myself that I would've preferred Konami not making games for the Gamecube at all).
I can see where you're coming from on the price tag. If they price this over $25, then there's no sale from me.

PLAYER TWO!!
x silence x @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:43PM
I sold my Wii for a reason... check out those screens!
Lethal Enforcers was released in 1992 so please let me know why this game looks like shit?
Fortyseven @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:08PM
Don't blame the Wii for someones choice to use shitty (non-filtered, no less) sprites made with what looks like a camcorder. It looks like an arcade title made in 1996 that got shelved for 10 years. I'm pretty sure, (based exclusively on these shots alone), that it would look almost exactly the same regardless of what platform it was on: garbage. The N64 could probably handle that with ease, all by itself. :P
The Wii deserves better than to be used as a third-party gaming landfill who's sole reason for living is to serve as a receptacle for first-party exclusives.
arrrgh @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:47PM
yeah seriously. We know all about the wii's capabilities, mr. xsilencexcorexx...xxxxxx
We've seen Galaxy...we'll be alright

day one purchase. will go great with my copy of Ninjabread Man.
Dash @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:43PM
Dad? LOL. That picture is just great.
FMV? It stills exists? Let's time I saw that was on my Sega CD. It's like playing a B-movie where every actor looks at the camera.
And why does every enemy has sunglasses?
WiNG @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:10PM
sunglasses = requires less acting
refinedsugar @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:36PM
No, sunglasses = we can use the same people over and over again for different, er... "roles".
ProfWho @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:45PM
This game should be $5 or free. That is it.
LilCo187 @ Jan 3rd 2008 2:46PM
Let's go with FREE.

Is this a Tim & Eric game?
StrangeBum @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:20PM
Dammit! Now that you've said that, I want them to make a game.
And I don't mean 'The Snuggler'. If there is anyway for them to take their show and produce it in game form, I would totally pay 50 dollars for that.
Spagett!
ViagraFiend @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:08PM

Unlike most of the poster's above, I'm actually excited about this.
I haven't killed terrorists in a long time, virtually.
I want to be a hero.
Poisoned Al @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:17PM
You're kidding right? Under Nazis and zombies, terrorists are at the top of the "okay to shoot" list in games. Hell, there have even been games with zombie nazis!
RoushiMSX @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:21PM
Great, so instead of porting Police 911 1 and 2 to the Wii, we're getting a second rate FMV lightgun game that was outdated by 10 years when it hit arcades and bombed. Awesome.
Between Konami dumping their garbage on us, Sega refusing to port any of their great lightgun games (p.s. thanks for screwing us over with the House of the Dead collection!) and Namco getting completely dumped on when they do make a good one (did anyone reviewing Time Crisis 4 even like any of the previous games in the series?), it's a sad, sad time for fans of the genre.
DarkTetsuya @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:13PM
That's what I said!
I guess Police 911/The Keisatsuken/Police 24/7 would've taken too much effort, and we all know how much Konami hates *that*.
Associate @ Jan 17th 2008 2:05PM
"we're getting a second rate FMV lightgun game that was outdated by 10 years when it hit arcades and bombed."
Seriously, read a book! You probably should have taken a look at the article before you decided to show off your lack of education on the matter.
Here's the article you missed:
http://onnintendo.com/Index.aspx?page=1&post=2&year=2008&month=1
If you don't like that site, just type in 'target terror wii' into google. The same article is posted everywhere.
"...Target: Terror™ is currently in development for the Nintendo Wii™. The game is based on Target: Terror Gold, the top-grossing arcade game of 2006..."
tentaclesex @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:24PM
Eugene Jarvis rules. I'm so fucking on this.
Justin B @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:23PM
I play this arcade game ever single time I visit the local movie theater.

nice! :)
Erik Novak @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:32PM
Holy crap, I made a 1/3rd of this game...I'm responsible for the backgrounds of screen 1 and 3, and I made the Golden Gate Bridge level as well as some of the airport. I never claim to be a good level artist, in fact it's what I did for that company (Raw Thrills) being hired straight out of college. I moved on and I've been doing character animation since.
Actually, the FMV actors are just employees and friends of the company. If you ever met Jarvis, you understand the game...really colorful, dynamic, tongue planted firmly in cheek with "America, F YEAH!" attitude. Believe it or not, even though there are some cheap hits (you don't have to worry about losing quarters) the game is actually pretty damn fun. Lots of neat FX the programmers did with the different deaths, and you can even shoot everyone in the nuts with the appropriate hit reaction.
BTW, the reasons the screens look so blurry is that I'm pretty sure the game resolution is still 320 x 240. If you want to shoot me for working on this, I'm the assisting cop on the Golden Gate Bridge.
JodyAnthony (death by snoo-snoo) @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:38PM
awesome!
i really am going to buy this day one.
Dash @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:26PM
Wait, you really worked in this game? That's kinda of cool.
And yes, I am going to shoot you. That's what friend and random blog commenters are for.
Obie @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:01PM
Just because you posted this I might give the game a rental.
cave_man @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:43PM
Bring back Revolution X. At least that had Aerosmith in it.
Ibere @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:53PM
From Wikipedia: "Target: Terror is one of the few two-player arcade rail shooters to offer what it calls "Justice Mode", the use of both guns by one player, for the same cost as one-gun play, and tracking score, health, and (in the Gold edition) medal counts as single-person play."
That's awesome!!!
Obie @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:59PM
Lethal Enforcers was released like, 15 years ago? And even it looks better than this crap.
Ethan Rom @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:00PM
Is that Lethal Enforcers??
is it 1992 again?
badarsemother3k @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:11PM
I love lightgun games. I can't say I have played this one but I will give it a try. I hope it sells for 30 or less though.
Mr Khan @ Jan 3rd 2008 4:24PM
The door for this was probably opened by House of the Dead collection
But doesn't this game belong on 3DO or Sega CD?
octoberasian @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:07PM
Why do I feel a bit of nostalgia just looking at those screens?
Oh, wait, it's 2008 and I haven't played an ARCADE game with FMV actors and cheesy acting and 90s hair-do since... whenever.
God! I feel old... and I'm only 27!
Travis @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:05PM
This game will break every sales record to date.... best drinking game ever...hands down...
Associate @ Jan 17th 2008 1:31PM
Travis so hit this right on. This game is gonna kick some serious ass. Ya ya, the graphics are kinda cheesy...but thats not the port or the Wii, its the arcade game and it was intentionally meant to look that way.
If this was just some shoot em up rail shooter it would be lame. But have any of you played this in the arcade? It's awesome. Ninjas throwing exploding turkeys, terrorist chicks wearing latex and leather and god knows what else, the mini-nuke golf balls, I mean what more could you ask for. The end result is this game is alot of fun so feel free to keep bashing on the graphics and refusing to play the game because of your assessment of the three screenshots (probably taken with a cell phone). Noone cares if you miss out on the game but when your friends buy it or get it on gamefly dont be surprised if they get addicted to it. This is one of those games you can play for hours and still never get bored of dismembering terrorists and zapping the crap out of people with the shocker weapon.
Oh, as far as drinking games Travis, there is a post on kotaku.com talking about 2 of the drinking games already. This IS destined to be the next cult classic people; so jump on the bandwagon or get lost in the shuffle.
Red_Paladin @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:24PM
I wonder if Mad Dog McCree is packed in with this gem... can you say Orange Box Killer?
drun @ Jan 3rd 2008 11:01PM
When Nintendo release the FamiCom lightgun game on VC. these games are doom.
Shockgamer @ Jan 4th 2008 1:00PM
Lethal Enforcers, is that you?
All the good light guns games out there (Time Crisis, Virtua Cop, HoTD 4, Police 911) and the Wii gets this.
He'll I'd take N.Y. Gunblade or L.A. Machines over this.
Associate @ Jan 17th 2008 1:48PM
In all seriousness, I cant wait for this game to be released. If anyone has played it in the arcade, you know what I am talking about.
Oh, on a side note, I dont understand why everyone compares this to lethal enforcers. I don't remember them having GOOD mini games like missile command and mad dog McCree (although I do remember protecting a stagecoach for some reason). For that matter, I don't remember them having exploding terrorists or hot chicks high-kicking you in the face either. While I am at it, I dont remember the flame thrower, shocker, freeze gun, the satellite, the grenade launcher or the RPG but maybe I overlooked those in Lethal Enforcers.
Anyone that puts this on the same level as Lethal Enforcers should be drawn and quartered. The only thing these have in common are the FMV actors. But if any of you actually took the time to play the game instead of saying "I saw similar screenshots so they must be the same thing" you would be able to see the difference and know that they are worlds apart.
