While The New York Times was busy correcting the spelling of Reggie's surname (twice!) – it's 'Fils-Aime' – Nintendo got to work righting the Business Day article's bigger blunder, which claims, "Complete games ... will be able to be downloaded into the Wii using its broadband connection, and then transferred wirelessly to the DS." In a statement released today, Nintendo corrected the bogus announcement, explaining that "in the future, the Nintendo DS will be able to receive demo versions of some DS games from Wii, but not the entire game." These demos, like all content that can be beamed to DS currently, will be erased once the handheld is switched off.
Mr. Taub penned a real lemon for The NY Times on Monday. The article has a growing list of edits appended to the end and still contains the major error cited today, along with this beautifully muffed sentence: "Mr. Fils-Aime said that future DS device will be more tightly integrated with its Wii console."

Metal Gear Solid 4 will be on the 360... no wait it won't... actually it will... no wait, it won't.
Crysis will be on the 360... no wait it won't.
Full DS games will be on the Wii... no wait, they won't.
It's ACME disappearing-reappearing news!

They'd be fine if they put out a memo that said that only Seth Schiesel is allowed to write about games for the paper. That guy (their full-time video games reporter) does some amazing work. He must cringe every time something like this comes up.

its not surprising when you think about it. in these "sensationalist" times, the general news media doesn't care if they get all of their facts straight about video games unless they're doing a story about some five-year-old who stabbed a classmate with a pen after watching a commercial for manhunt 7 or whatever...

Even then they don't really care about getting the story right. They blamed Columbine on Manson when the two guys didn't even listen to him and when Virginia Tech happened they let Thompson talk about the problems with videogames before bothering to confirm the presence of videogames.

Apparently references to Portal are still capable of cracking me up.

It's plausible that someone somewhere paid good money to get this possibly purposefully flawed news out. Some might even say all it takes to make a sale is two screens, some smoke, mirrors and a rumor. It's worked before, hell I remember some folks saying something along the same lines about stylus control.

Both systems are a big disappointment. Dump your Nintendo stock before the CEOs do.
