Rumorang: EA says "no plans" for Crysis on Xbox 360
Like some sort of nanosuit-powered supersoldier, EA hurled yesterday's Crysis-on-360 rumor into a nearby shed (which, it's worth noting, broke apart and splintered with startling accuracy). Surprising no one, the software giant has said they have "no plans for an Xbox 360 version of Crysis" reports TGR, despite an Austrian retailer listing an "uncut edition" for release in November '08.
The Crysis console question has been considered before – and EA has denied it before – but with sales not blowing any sheds over and a comment by Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli that strong PC sales could convince the developer to work on a console port, we're at an impasse of sorts. Or maybe that was a passive aggressive suggestion: if they sell more on PC then maybe they'll port it to consoles. Hear that PC gamers? Git shopping!

So if I go buy 8 copies that will increase the chances of seeing it on the 360 by about 1% or so?
...it feels like playing an MMORPG!

Confirm, deny, confirm, deny, confirm, deny = free publicity!

MGS4 + Crysis + horrible sales = Xbox 360 ports.
Math is fun.

I agree with everything you just said.

Sad part is it would actually sell some copies on 360. Hell im curious to try it but im not building a while new pc just for 1 game which i may not even like that much.
Marty @ Jan 4th 2008 2:39PM
I thought Crysis sucked anyway.
Zertoss @ Jan 4th 2008 2:44PM
I wouldn't say it sucks, but it's not worth the price of admission.
PhrawzT @ Jan 4th 2008 3:06PM
I was not impressed with Crysis either. Sure it looked great, but the gameplay was rather boring overall.
Einhanderkiller @ Jan 4th 2008 5:16PM
I found it to be very, very fun.
Alex @ Jan 5th 2008 10:38AM
Actually, every game u own does. Minus crysis.

See its so easy!!! =)
Dirt @ Jan 4th 2008 2:44PM
It seems sort of backwards. Sell enough on PC to subsidize the 360 port? Thats one hell of a way to try and make a living. I'm going to guess this route got people laid off. If they wanted to make money, they should have gone to the 360 first. It has been out long enough that this should have been common sense by now.
jynxycat @ Jan 4th 2008 8:12PM
I doubt Crytek is in any financial hurt.
Farcry sold a bunch on all sorts of platforms, not to mention that the CryEngine 2 is going to be licensed out pretty heavily.
Why try to make a awesome looking game, when you can just license the engine, and switch some models around. Works for everyone else using UE3.
Thr3e2wenty8 @ Jan 4th 2008 2:45PM
They also won't be getting Cooking with Mama or the Tickle me Elmo adventure from the Wii.
Write the story - QUICK!
Anam @ Jan 4th 2008 2:51PM
Well, at least Jenga Live is still confirmed.
WiNG @ Jan 4th 2008 2:54PM
I'm pretty sure Crysis would instantly RROD any 360 that it even looked at.

maybe they should fix the bugs in the vista version before thinking about porting anything.
SharpBlade @ Jan 4th 2008 2:59PM
I would say there are too many horrible gaming websites on the net that people are taking too seriously..
I mean just since the Jan 1 we have MGS4 on 360 rumor, Crysis on 360 rumor, Ultimate Xbox 360 rumor, LA Noire coming to 360 rumor and Xbox Live hacked(DDoSed) rumor.
It seems like the 360 gets the brunt of these shoddy journalistic/website rumors and as a fan of reading game news it's really turning me off. I wish these gaming sites would stick to reporting facts and news vs. jerking the 360 owners around with a bunch of half-truths and poor speculation.
I think I found a new years resolution... Stop reading gaming news on the internet.
Cellien @ Jan 4th 2008 3:10PM
Joystiq is reporting the rumor, not starting it. I think it's great, otherwise EA would have never come out and said ANYTHING... regardless if it's BS. Look at Sony, they BS'ed all about the PS3 capabilities and fanboys ate it up. Joystiq just reports what's being said.
Cellien @ Jan 4th 2008 3:07PM
EA just doesn't want to hinder PC sales. As long as they don't announce it, more people will be willing to buy it on PC.
License to ill @ Jan 4th 2008 3:20PM
Yeah right kinda like the "no plans" to port Rock Band over to the wii, its gonna happen its just a matter of when....
Anam @ Jan 4th 2008 3:28PM
There are no current plans to announce current plans.
Nate @ Jan 4th 2008 4:31PM
Good luck. The PS2 couldn't even run all of Rock Band, what makes you think the Wii has any chance? Harmonix outsourced the PS2 version and hung on the coat tails of the PS3 peripherals. The Wii version, given that they won't even admit they're thinking about it, is probably never coming. Why bother, when 100 million people have PS2s?
Anam @ Jan 4th 2008 5:28PM
Well, considering that the Wii is about twice as powerful as the Gamecube, which was more powerful than the PS2 and the Wii has better and more established online capability, I'd say that Rock Band for the Wii would probably be better than the PS2 version.
reppy @ Jan 4th 2008 3:16PM
Wait, does this make sense? "Buy the PC version so we'll port it to Xbox 360 .. so you can buy it again!"
Thanks but no thanks.
arrrgh @ Jan 4th 2008 3:23PM
What's that? the Port-o-Matic 5000 says it won't port something? Why is that so hard to believe;)
larry @ Jan 4th 2008 3:35PM
Games don't have to be good anymore, they just have to look pretty.
Anam @ Jan 4th 2008 3:39PM
Yet you have Pokemon outselling most everything despite looking like crap...
jynxycat @ Jan 4th 2008 8:14PM
Willing to bet you haven't even played Crysis.
larry @ Jan 4th 2008 8:18PM
i dont have the hardware to run it... sorry jinksycat, im not as leet as you
Slaziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Jan 4th 2008 10:53PM
Unless you are running a 5 year old Dell, you could run it at low settings. The problem with your kind of people is that either they want it all, or they don't want it at all. Since you haven't played it, what would you know? The gameplay is awesome, at least for me.
spartan 6453 @ Jan 4th 2008 3:39PM
Not porting to the 360 would be like Crytek saying they hate money. It should be fairly easy to port and they will probably see triple the sales they had on the pc.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 4th 2008 3:48PM
Bad decision.
PhoenixSS @ Jan 4th 2008 3:57PM
Whatever EA yes it will.
Tyler @ Jan 4th 2008 4:06PM
any kind of port of this game to ps3 or xbox 360 wouldn't even be the crysis you see on the PC. it's like porting far cry to the wii, and we saw how that went. this is one game where if they port it from PC, it'll do a lot more harm than good.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 4th 2008 5:25PM
...because god knows games such as GoW and Ratchet really showed the 360 and PS3 couldn't handle advanced looking visuals.
Whatever dude. How could you do more harm when the games not selling much in the first place.
jynxycat @ Jan 4th 2008 8:17PM
'..because god knows games such as GoW and Ratchet really showed the 360 and PS3 couldn't handle advanced looking visuals. '
You obviously haven't seen this game in action.
Crysis takes a dump on GoW and Ratchet (lol?) in terms of visuals.
I've stopped taking the UE3 engine serious after realizing how many shortcuts it takes in the programming department, and how not impressive it actually is.
Slaziman (B-B-BRUSHED WITH FAAAAME) @ Jan 4th 2008 10:58PM
As long as the physics remain the same, I don't see how some blurrier shadows and textures would make it a different game.
Arno @ Jan 4th 2008 5:11PM
They'd be absolutely retarded now to. Trust me, this will come to the Xbox 360.
Shawn @ Jan 4th 2008 5:12PM
Crytek doesn't make console games, never have and according to them, never will. If it was being ported, it wouldn't be coming from Crytek, and being that EA owns the IP(Guessing?), I'm sure they will farm it out to someone. It's not going to be the same game, it's just impossible for obvious reasons.
btw, I wouldn't doubt that Crysis has sold a ton more copies since the November sales figures, which were only US Retail for a few weeks. While it won't put up console numbers, I'm sure it'll do just fine.
That_One_Guy @ Jan 4th 2008 5:21PM
Even if it sold well, it wouldn't get ported to the 360, because the 360 would never have a chance of running it, no matter how ridiculously optimized and gutted the code was.
If they added a Gigabyte of RAM and replaced that weakling 360 CPU with something that had a bigger machine instruction selection, and maybe 4MB of cache, it MIGHT work, but I doubt it. Not that that's ever going to happen, maybe when the Xbox 720 comes out in 2012.
MuToiD_MaN @ Jan 4th 2008 5:24PM
Obviously they'd have to tone down the graphics since I'm guessing they won't take the time to optimize. What's left? The hyper-retarded AI? The "gripping" storyline and characters? I'm just thinking, why bother?
Don't get me wrong ... I bought the game on PC and enjoyed my playthrough/glorified tech demo. I justify my PC building by calling it a hobby. I just don't see console owners having an interest in this one.
