Some Just Cause 2 details, just 'cause
PSW magazine has the revolutionary skinny on the sequel to the stylish -- but ultimately blah -- Just Cause. Rico Rodriguez is now ready to overthrow the government in the South East Asian country of Panau and developer Avalanche is using a new engine for Just Cause 2, which will focus more on exploration and experimentation than the original according to the developer.
The original Just Cause benefitted from a huge world, tropical setting (green and blue is so much better than modern gaming's brown obsession), and the stunts Rico could perform -- it failed on almost every other level. The game's lead designer Peter Johansson says the sequel will enhance the stunts and improve combat. As long as Avalanche takes the time to polish Just Cause this time around it might make for a great alternative to every other sandbox game's gritty urban settings -- well, almost every other sandbox game.

Maybe they'll find a way to make this one not suck as hard.
Anam @ Jan 4th 2008 5:36PM
Don't worry NATO_Duke, you're not the only one.
Saria the Cat @ Jan 9th 2008 3:58PM
Whenever I see this title in our store, I almost always read it as "Just 'Cause." And after hearing how bad the game is, I imagine they really made it for kicks and giggles.
Anam @ Jan 4th 2008 5:22PM
Are these games related in any way to the Sean Connery movie? I haven't seen the movie or played the first game, so feel free to let me know if that was a stupid question...
NATO_Duke @ Jan 4th 2008 5:22PM
Bad! Bad developer! Just let this one die with the lame 1st one.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 4th 2008 5:26PM
No - there is no connection beyond each involving people.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 4th 2008 5:28PM
Damn it, I replied to the wrong post...which was my own post as well. See my reply below.
Yes, I have confused myself.
NATO_Duke @ Jan 4th 2008 5:29PM
OK, reply system is messed again - it keeps replying to the wrong posts.
Marty @ Jan 4th 2008 5:48PM
Methinks someone just keeps pressing the wrong 'Reply' button.
Limezor @ Jan 4th 2008 5:34PM
I liked Just Cause's environment as well as its stunts and it was a pretty fun game, but obviously there were some things that needed to be "fixed".
tmacairjordan87 @ Jan 4th 2008 5:36PM
first one was ok. Looking at the environment when you're up in a plane or skydiving, i still think the first one had some of the best looking environments in any game.
rikimaru @ Jan 4th 2008 5:39PM
Just 'cause. heeh he eh
XanthouS @ Jan 4th 2008 5:44PM
It's almost as if there is some actual relevant Sony-related news out there...somewhere...on the internet.
Heaven forbid it be showcased here.
cc123 @ Jan 4th 2008 5:50PM
I'm sure its coming. ;)
SharpBlade @ Jan 4th 2008 6:00PM
This game is multiplatform.. So this is Sony revelant news.. Still wonder why it's filed under PS3 only..
If you are referring to WB news on BR.. I am thankful that Joystiq skips that crap.. This is a gaming site not a HD movie site. Who wants to watch a bunch of 3yo Sony fanboys beating their chest as if this will somehow move them out of last place in the console race.. Funny thing, I own a PS3 and still will never waste my money on a HD movie..
If your not referring to that then completely ignore what I just wrote. =)
PS: I loved Just Cause, nothing like grappling onto a helicopter, then hijacking it then taking it as high as you can go and jump out of it.. Yes, the combat needed work and some variation but I had more fun with that game then a lot of garbage that has come out since. The soundtrack was good/different as well.. Can't wait for JC 2.

I fail to see how either of those articles have any gaming relevance.

"If you are referring to WB news on BR.. I am thankful that Joystiq skips that crap.. This is a gaming site not a HD movie site."
They have run plenty of articles covering the format war before so it would be pretty weird for them to skip this rather big news.
"Who wants to watch a bunch of 3yo Sony fanboys beating their chest as if this will somehow move them out of last place in the console race.."
I kinda doubt its going to be the Sony people making the most noise, my bet is that it will be a lot of butthurt xbots slinging mudd just like almost every Sony thread on this site.
Kinda like the pre-emptive crap you just wrote.
SharpBlade @ Jan 4th 2008 9:06PM
@XanthouS - Sorry, I guess I don't read every single article and go back months to see every article Joystiq has posted.. But the majority of the articles here are gaming related %99. You take my comments as absolute, I said I'm glad Joystiq skips that crap and a majority of the time they do. Congrats to you for going back 5 months and finding a couple you should feel proud. pft
@cc123 - That is the difference between Sony and MS.. Sony rammed BR up your arse(and I can tell by your post you had a huge smile on your face and liked it) while MS gave people the option of an HD-DVD add-on.. Direct your garbage spewing crap at Toshiba, if MS was so committed they would of had HD-DVD in the 360 at launch and killed Blu-ray.
It's funny you say "pre-emptive" because you know I'm right. I bet you are one of them, ready to beat your chest and really you already are with your "butthurt xbot" comments... LOL Just stay at the back of the bus.. Someone took the wind out of your sails before you could even get started..
Not all PS3 owners nor 360 owners are 3yo acting fanboys and my comments were not directed at them.. If you got offended by that it means you probably are one.
cc123 @ Jan 4th 2008 9:26PM
Blu-ray was not forced on people, its the media the machine was designed around. Just like many other systems in previous generations have used their own specific type of media. If you don't want blu-ray for whatever reason don't buy a PS3.
"It's funny you say "pre-emptive" because you know I'm right."
I used the word pre-emptive because you started your bullshit parade before anybody even MENTIONED WB going blu in this thread. You came of like a petulant child throwing a tantrum because you didn't get your way.
For someone that doesn't care or "wastes his money on HD movies" you sure seem to have a strong opinion over it.
Cry more, kiddo.
XanthouS @ Jan 4th 2008 9:54PM
@SharpBlade:
It took a 5-second search of Joystiq to bring up those two articles. They each dealt with a major company choosing to go exclusive to one format.
The news article today was absolutely no different, except for the fact that it was pro-Sony and that it didn't get posted.
That was my point. So how was your post relevant again?
SharpBlade @ Jan 5th 2008 2:19AM
I will respond to both of you in 1 post.
First off XanthouS started this with his subtle yet easy to decifer post about relevant PS3 news. Which anybody could of guessed(well except you). Which btw has now been posted and just read the thread.. And yes I did jump in on it because just like I said the 360 is slammed by a bunch of chest beating 3yo PS3 fans(Jack in the Xbox & Qraze take the cake)
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/04/warner-bros-goes-blu-ray-exclusive/
I think I know more about you and the PS3 boys then you think..
So your attempts at trying to make it sound like Joystiq is biased against the PS3 fails. Also, the PS3 was overpriced and delayed thanks to good ol Blu-ray. I don't think the 360 would of had a lead at all if it had launched when it was supposed too. Please don't tell me that Sony put BR as a favor to gamers.. Plleease.. The very reason they advertised the thing more as a BR player instead of a game machine.. I mean nice to pack in a movie with the PS3 but not a game?? Yes, they have wised up to it and have been packing Motorstorm in the 80gig; but even the latest 40gig SKU has Spider-Man 3 instead of a game. hrmm. Where is their emphasis at again?? Sony used the PS3 as a medium to push their movie format, games running on BR was consequential..
I am no fanboy and I will definately give credit to Sony for pushing the tech.. It's great and should hopefully lead to some great games that's why I bought one.. But don't tell me BR was game decision more than a movie one. Ever since Betamax and UMD Sony has been itching to get in at the media format level for a long time and I guess third times a charm and they stand to make some serious money..
Anticrawl @ Jan 4th 2008 5:59PM
Why are they making this game? (Sets you up)
CJC @ Jan 5th 2008 1:05PM
Just 'Cause they can!
(Insert canned laughter.)
Nigeria @ Jan 4th 2008 6:09PM
Where's Panau and what's the Just Cause.
bruceS @ Jan 4th 2008 6:36PM
I don't know...I actually enjoyed Just Cause. Sure it could have been better, but I had a good time running around hijacking helicopters, blowing up things and doing crazy stunts.
Eddie @ Jan 4th 2008 6:58PM
Warner ditches HD DVD to go Blu Ray exclusive.
Happy?
Go to it, a-holes.
bigsofty @ Jan 4th 2008 9:31PM
The original was like Crysis except it was fun.
