Video: Bad Company is fully destructible
22
Okay, this video may come from the December video archives, but we just came across it and it's worth mentioning. IGN posted an exclusive alpha build tech demo with Battlefield: Bad Company devs and we all agree that it's explosively destructive good times. Seriously guys, watch the video as it just may increase Bad Company's appeal ten fold. The video schows off the game's interactive environments which include everything from walls being destroyed, buildings falling apart, trees falling into buildings which in turn fall apart, doors being shot off of vehicles and an explosion so big ... it'll make your eyes water. Go, watch, enjoy and tell us what you think.

battlefield games are very cool but am i the only one whos is completely bugged that the 3rd person view doesnt have a reticule like Frontline Fuels of war or mercenaries 2. I personally think BC looks great but would much prefer 3rd person vehicular combat WITH reticule
anyone agree ? :-)

I hated when they blew up the silo and for like a quarter of a second it looked disgusting. The shell just disappeared and a few explosions were initiated from places inside where the shell used to be. Ugh, why can't they just get it right? I dunno, blow up some real stuff, check out what happens, replicate it. Shit.
And the crate shooting wasn't too great either.
The tree's fell when something nearby (10 metres) exploded?
Where was all the debris of the broken houses? Aren't there usually piles and piles of broken bricks? The stuff people get trapped under?
Yea ok, my day's not been great so far, I woke up about 40 mins ago and realised i have 2 exams in a few days which i've not started revising for.. :(

Jesus this is a PRE-ALPHA video, I mean just think about the meaning of pre-alpha then go eat your own foot to comfort you from your own stupidity.
The very very vast majority of developers wouldn't even dream of putting out a video that early in development and we can see why from the stupid comments on this post, the whole point of this kind of development demo is to showcase the POTENTIAL of what they are doing, not to show off the finished product.
I find it saddening that the gaming public can be given small gems like this that show one of the best advances in game development and all the majority of them can say is 'well yeah it could be better', until all you guys can do better on a pre-alpha showcase i suggest you shut up...

If you know it’s a tech demo (not a multiplayer or campaign demo) then why post your question. It’s a tech demo who the crap cares if the person dies or not. I mean if he died then you respawned then what...opps sorry you missed being able to watch the huge explosions because you were dead sorry.

you guys who are talking shit are tards. most games have nothing destructible except watermelons and red barrels, this is GREAT compared to that. The houses getting blown up were awesome. stop your bitching.

I'll have to let my disappointment slide because it is a pre-alpha build. This is a good first step, but if you're going to do realism you might as well go all out.

What are you talking about? This game is sweet WTF are you all you guys on? Of course this is just a demo so its not like the health feature or damage was on and thats why he was still alive. Just so they could show the destruction of that last explosion. Fucking Moron!

looks amazing.. now if they can put this tech with a call of duty (or better) caliber story and multiplayer, they could end up with an amazing game.
i just hope the rest of the game is as great as the technology behind it.

Sweet, but the balance needs a lot of work - glass only shatters with a direct hit, while other things are destroyed too easily from collateral damage...

wow. Games are finally beginning to become what they truly should be. My only complaint is that they choose to leave parts of the structure intact. That seems a little wrong to me. Fully destrutable would mean I can blow those support beams out like a real house, and see NOTHING left. They should make even those destructable. That way if say some1 is hiding in the top floor of a hosue sniping and whatnot in multiplayer, I can go place a few charges in the basment on the supports and have the house crumble completely.
Also debris needs to deffenitly stay. If it dissapears its not helping much. Thos trees could use some better crysis type physics as well. It didnt look like any branches or anything could come off.
This may be a pre-alpha build but Usually games like this dont change all that much into release in the core gameplay aspect. Mostly just the completed polished game comes from here.
To me, games like crysis and this are a great indication of where the industy is headed (in shooters) and I cant wait for like 5 more years from now when its all done properly and to maximum potential.

I'm worry about the frame rate, i would say. As a reference, the mission when you have to save cpt. macmillan. Play it with "recruit" difficult and "A bad year" cheat enabled (for those who dont know this cheat, it makes your enemies explode into olds tires after you killed them.) Anyway, run around and kill everyone, you will see a bunch of old tires (lots of tire) and the game starts to lag a little.
View those old tires as "destructible human", it already effects the fame rate. That is just a small scale, imagine it on a larger scale with a battle is going on.
I don't know, may be by the time it is released. Hope the developers will master the coding or we will see "550p"? Time will tell.
