Can you ever have too much? Sony says not, as it has just announced a 16GB version of its PSP/PS3-compatible Memory Stick PRO Duo. Coming this March, it will retail for $300. If you buy one, please tell us so that we can be very, very jealous of you. There isn't much else to say -- it is what it is. And it is awesome.

hi bought a non sony 4GB memory stick with lifetime warranty for my PSP at US$36
so, if i need 16GB, I'll just buy 4 of them, $144
32GB = $288
It can let me "store" 10 games or so.
So I'll predict 16GB MemoryStick by end year will cost $130, made by chinese, with lifetime warranty.

Wasn't it this time last year that the 8GB memory stick was introduced, for like $300.00? At least the price has dropped quite a bit since then.
So I guess next January will be the 32 GB....

As usual.
I'm bummed that the 32GB stick isn't out yet. Early last year I read a statement saying "we are fairly confident we'll have a 32GB [stick] by the end of the year." Which means I'd buy one around xmas 2008 (I usually wait about a year for price drops before I buy something like that). At this rate it'll be released around xmas 2008!
Oh well. I just bought a 4GB to tide me over. My entire music library is around 30GB, I'd love to be able to just keep all that on my PSP.

Bright side is that the 8gb stick will probably go down in price pretty soon! 4gb is quickly eaten up by my music and video collection, let alone Playstation Store downloadables.

Did Sony make this just for the mod community?

this is great since it means the 8GB will drop even more in price pretty soon.
on the other hand, i dont really know who Sony is targeting with these $300 price tags on these Memory Sticks. the prices fall so fast it's like "what's the point of even marking them that high at all". i would never pay $300 for a Memory Stick, do you realize you could get a 160GB iPod for just $50 more? $50=10x the space? and yes i realize it's HDD vs. Flash and not to mention the convenience of convergence, but still...
ill buy it when it's around $80 like i do with every new Memory Stick. but that 8GB is almost in my price range now.

The photography market, solid state video recorder market, users who are serious about the TV-DVR functionality of the PSP?
You think they made this specifically for cheap PSP users :p

Well, they could just not sell any until it gets cheap enough to manufacture at a reasonable price... or they could start selling them as soon as they make the advancement in capacity.
I mean, by your argument Flash media shouldn't exist at all, or even 2.5" drives. Why would anyone make anything other than a 5.25" drive which provides the best cost/dollar ratio?!
Bottom line: You don't have to buy it. The people who do buy these things want to be on the cutting edge. And Sony is making them happy.

If it continues like this sony will be able to make laptops with a few 32 gb inside. Maybe 3 years once the price has gone down. A 2 inch solid state 64, 96, or 128 gb harddrive. That would be the start of the nano solid state labtop computers. Maybe we will be able to drop the price of them and have them as a standard inside cell phones and other small gadgets.

and all this time i thought using a 512 mb stick was okay..
with the introduction of the PS store i can see why everyone wants to go gig crazy. i however am still figuring out how to boot windows on to my macbook. -_-;;

I hope future firmware will have better file format support. The fat32 support is pitful with games. With MS this high...you can forget about efficient use of 16gig or more.

I bought my 4Gb for £18 why would i pay £150(most likely it will be £200) for this? I'd rather just by 3 more 4GB versions which is like 1/2 price...
In fact a 1TB external HDD costs about £150...
I know people like the whole 1 card more GB thing......but not for me sorry.
