i don't own a ps3 but i've only heard bad things about HS, and even then just complaints about the length ... but then again that just seems like par for the course for a lot of games this generation (development costs and all) ....

So are these "sold" meaning retailers have them...or "shipped" meaning sony made them? Because I'm confused as to whihc they are using this week.

So.... all of a sudden they can comment on their sales numbers before NPD comes out.....

If they are getting a head start on their competition, it must mean they did pretty poorly by comparison.

"300% percent increase"..... but 360 sold twice as many.

I'm pretty sure Sony knows how many units they shipped to retailers, and thats all these numbers are.

u know whats funny, they sold alot of triples, but the day after christmas i went in to buy some dvds and at best guy sumone was returning one and then at target sumone was returning one, and i only saw triples being returned clearly anywhere, not to mention that xbl has been down mostly since christmas due to all the new consoles being used and new xbl users, id say microsoft made an assload of cash this christmas

I think the Playstation 3 will continue to gain in sales. (It really had nowhere to go but up.) The format war should come to an end soon if the HD-DVD camp plays smart and cuts its losses. Knowing the PS3 doubles as THE HD disc player means even more sales down the road, I think.

I really wanted Toshiba to go all out and win, but... better one format than two incompatible.

I am part of the sales in that group as well. Picked up PS3 and Rock Band.

I would like to say that I'm glad that PS3 is slowly gaining momentum in the US, but I would like to say something

360 Fanboys - Yes, your console will not be beaten in the US. Everyone can do the simple math and realize that if your console gets released a year earlier then everyone else, the likelihood of someone coming from behind and trampling you is very slim. Stop using this as bragging rights to justify your purchase against someone elses. Its really sad and old.

PS3 Fanboys - Stop spouting out comments that make normal, proud console owners be compared to you (IE someone who wants to start lame wars over the anonymous interwebs). Please realize that PS3 will never catch up to the X360 in the US. Where the real strength will be is in Europe, Japan and other territories where the PS brand still goes unmatched and basically unrivaled. Whether or not the sales ever match or catch up on a month to month basis in the US doesn't really matter as much.

As long as both consoles don't completely disappear then everyone wins, its as simple as that. I wish Sony and Microsoft the best of luck for this new year and I hope the quality of the first party and third party titles goes up as the year goes on.

If you like Advance Wars on your PS2/3 Dai Senryaku VII is being sold for 10 bucks or so at Best Buy etc. They purposely kept the cost down low to sell the game 5 bucks higher than retail. Slim manual etc.

A slim manual for Dai VII seems like a hugely bad idea. Advance Wars is simple, easy. Dai, last time I bought it, had well over 250 unit types, each with dramatic differences. Plus Dai is a hex based, not square. Skimping on the manual seems all sorts of bad idea to me.

Sony can now enjoy the combined sales of each Playstation type, seeing as they don't kill off older models like Msoft do.

Why is it people always come up with this lame ass story of walking into the shop and seeing someone returning a PS3 or seeing loads on the shelf, that story is dead, buried, found 2 millions years later, put in a museum, burnt to the ground and buried once more.

I can only assume these individuals are under the age of five, because am I to assume that because I see someone returning a Wii or 360 they don't want it and its the end for Xbox or Wii? How do you know they aren't just getting it replaced? -_- There are alternatives, did you ask them why they were returning?

It is safe to assume they weren't getting them replaced. PS3s, PS2s or PSPs don't ever stop working.

Anyone else ever notice that a PS3 doesn't even get warm?

that's one thing that always surprised me, how powerful it supposedly is but the thing doesn't make a sound or generate hardly any heat. Not to mention they hardly ever break down. I think M$ should go the humble route and copy sony's hardware reliability. Trust me M$, no one will hate on you for copying that.

As for the ps2, well it doesn't break down anymore with the newer ones. Dont remind me the horrors i and millions of others had to go through with that disc read error garbage, though it's not nearly as bad for me as RROD (3 PS2s over 8 years, compared to 6 360s in 2 years)

Good sales in North America. Especially in light of how much they outsell the 360 by in the rest of the world.

"Please realize that PS3 will never catch up to the X360 in the US. "
Well the PS3 has sold about 4mn in the US while the 360 has about 10mn. Thats still not even a quarter of the overall market I would guess - and most of the 10mn using 360 would be the Halo gang.

I would think the 360 would still have a slight lead. Question is - is that enough given for most of the year 360 had a big price advantage, they had a big advantage in games due to a 1-year lead, this is the year with almost all the big hitters especially Halo3 and Mass Effect, and remember also that the PS3 also had a vicious media campaign against it as well.

I should know about the psp drought though, here in pa, my local gamestop was backordered on the psp and only had 5 games left on its psp wall. it was so low that the corporation was sending them extras stockpiles just to try to keep up.
