Wii outsold PS3 3-to-1 in Japan during '07; Xbox pens memoir on neglect
Citing Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, Bloomberg reports the Wii sold three times more units than the PlayStation 3 in 2007 in Japan. Supposedly the sales difference is almost exactly three-to-one, with the Wii selling 3.63 million units to the PS3's 1.21 million. The PS3 started to rally with the introduction of the 40GB model late in the year and finally outsold the Wii in early November, but lost momentum again later in the month and into December.
The Japanese hardware sales have remained fairly consistent throughout the year, with the only true shocker happening in late October when the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3. Beyond that Twilight Zone moment, the Xbox 360 sat high atop Mt. Fuji and penned its memoirs on solitude with sales of a meager 257,841 units in '07. And, just in case it ever becomes a Trivial Pursuit question, that fateful week when the Xbox 360 beat the PS3 in Japan was seemingly fueled by Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation.

On top of this, I heard a figure on sales that said if you spread out the Nintendo DS sales, worldwide for 2007, it figures out to one DS being sold every 5 seconds....of the entire year.
Nintendo's bringing SEXY back!!!
James @ Jan 7th 2008 7:31PM
I heard it took a month to sell 16 PS3's. Worldwide.

These posts are the joystiq equivalent of printing money. Its so easy to do, the fan-tards always take the bait, and joystiq laughs while the page views shoot up. Stop being puppets.

Thanks Ron Jones! We look forward to a puppeteer's hand being shoved up your ass when your favorite console sells some units and it gets posted on Joystiq!
Have a good day sir!

Because God forbid joystiq should tell the TRUTH on these matters.

"...fan-tards..."
It's a conundrum I know; how do you show "fan-tards" your superiority whilst remaining silent? I suppose in the end you have a moral imperative to furnish the truth, though it means descending to our level.
I salute your anonymous courage!

Why weren't Japanese hardware sales for last week posted this past weekend?
Mr Khan @ Jan 7th 2008 7:39PM
New Year's Day, Japanese Christmas more or less
Dojo took the week off, and Media Create's slow on the uptake

As much as I haven't played my Wii since Galaxy, and my DS for even longer. I'm really glad to see Nintendo back on top. Just feels right.
Jhongerkong @ Jan 7th 2008 8:04PM
Doesnt feel right without Hiroshi Yamauchis dictatorship over the company.

Nothing says arrogance like your President priding himself on never having had played a videogame.
SharpBlade @ Jan 7th 2008 7:29PM
I will bet MS will try and duplicate the Ace Combat 6 scenario again by getting some Japanese exclusives that appeal over there. Even though the 360 has outsold the Xbox1 it is still dismal when a whole year doesn't even equal 1 month in the USA.
I love what Capcom is doing on the 360 by trying to make more western appealing games to capture some of that revenue. Software sales in NA and even EU dwarf the sales in Japan so I hope the very talented dev's over in Japan recognize they can make some good money on the 360 despite it's poor sales in Japan.
Mr Khan @ Jan 7th 2008 7:41PM
Certainly. It isn't hopeless for the 360 in Japan, they can't win, but if they persist, they will gain good will for the Xbox Brand, and with goodwill, the apparent bias against Xbox (not Microsoft, Japan is run by Windows) will fade
FM @ Jan 7th 2008 7:36PM
Well at least the two consoles had their month in Japan.
Jamesology @ Jan 7th 2008 7:57PM
Yeah, I know a lot of ppl who own a Wii. It's funny b/c none of us play with it anymore. But it's good to know I own one.
I wish they made some games for it at least, like games with a fun factor of over a week.
Jhongerkong @ Jan 7th 2008 8:14PM
Well, Brawl is supposed to last until the next console generation, where the next Smash Bros is rumored to last an eternity.

playwhutyalike (kinda digs Manhunt 2) @ Jan 7th 2008 8:30PM
I'm assuming that when you used "ppl", you are probably still in school, maybe have a part time job, and have hours on end to play video games. I could be wrong.
I myself, work full time and have a ton of other projects going on: mixing music, production, piano practice, lessons, shopping, house stuff, travel, exercise, reading, and so on.
I'm still f'in with Super Mario Galaxy, God Dammit. What the hell is going to happen when I get a PS3 or 360? I won't be able to finish the game for months!
I guess my point is that "people" have thier reasons why thier system of choice is not getting played. So what? Look at all the other things in your house/apartment/mom and dad's house that doesn't get used daily. I'm sure your list will be longer than one Nintendo Wii.
Mr Khan @ Jan 7th 2008 9:18PM

Buy it, tell your friends, especially if any of them are into Quentin Tarantino-kinda movies, or the otaku scene

WOW, are you trying to make me sound stupid by using an abbrev. '

@playwhutyalike
Also, just to let you know thier and f'in are not words. And, yes I am still in school trying to finish my BA. By the looks of it you need to go back to elementary english classes.
Wii games do not have much content or depth. Except Mario Galaxy, I love that game and only that game on the Wii.

Under 12 years old confirmed.
playwhutyalike (kinda digs Manhunt 2) @ Jan 8th 2008 8:06PM
Yeah, I always screw the word their up. Oh well, I didn't mean for my post to be so negative, but it looks like I might have pushed a button or two with your three replies.
Can you start a sentence with and? Refresh me on that.
Jamesology @ Jan 9th 2008 3:36AM
The reason why I did three post is b/c my original post did not post all. Notice the open bracket? Then I changed it and still didn't work and do I just redid the whole comment. But as of my "And" grammar, it's not as bad as made up words. Especially when you have used them repeatedly. By the way, I know I hurt your feelings about how stupid Nintendo games are. You proved that you just a Nintendo fanboy that doesn't know what you're talking about. I bet you do not even own a Wii.
playwhutyalike (kinda digs Manhunt 2) @ Jan 9th 2008 9:05PM
-REPOST-
"I did three post". Did you mean to type posts? Plural. "still didn't work and do I just redid the whole comment". What? "You proved that you just a Nintendo fanboy". Huh?
If your going to address my grammar issues by saying you do it less frequently than I do, then you should check your shit before you click Add Your Comments. We can probably drop the whole grammar issue now, don't you think? You totally proved how much worse my grammar is than yours.
Fanboy? Is that the best you can come up with? I don't even own a Nintendo Wii? Oh, I better write those down for future use. Those are a couple of gems right there.
I'm going to bury the hatchet now. Yes, I agree with you that Nintendo has a whole pile of shitty games. It is too bad that this is the case but Nintendo made the Wii system knowing that it wasn't going to be the only form of video gaming in the household. Plus, with the diverse gaming audience that Wii owners are, they are going to put out the shitty games for the "other" gamer. Oh well. I know my Wii (with the black replacement case) will look lovely sitting next to a 360 or PS3.
Peace, James

Slayer @ Jan 7th 2008 9:46PM
Yeah the wii's can't seem to stay on the shelf very
long, so they must be doing something right to outsell ps3 at 3-1.
samfish @ Jan 7th 2008 9:56PM
Oh bullshit. The Wii did not outsell the PS3 in Japan. Haven't you been keeping track of the Japanese sales numbers?
Stop being fanboys, Joystiq!
mr nimblewick @ Jan 7th 2008 11:16PM
Question mark.
I know there's sarcasm here somewhere... I just can't find it...
Zoesch @ Jan 7th 2008 11:59PM
Because sarcasm is supposed to be subtle and to the point. Samfish's post was the equivalent of someone hitting your balls repeatedly with a copy of Kameo while Fernando and name123 scream obscenities at each other.
Szu @ Jan 7th 2008 10:05PM
All 360 needs to do is release a new Ace Combat game every week and they'll have a shot at overtaking the PS3.
Roto13 @ Jan 8th 2008 1:30PM
I knew the 360 was doing pretty poorly in Japan, but I had no idea they were doing THAT badly. Wow.
