Air Guitar Rocker gets Guitar Hero license
Basically you strum a magical pick across a very demonic-looking belt buckle and one of 10 different songs (only five of which are licensed) comes streaming from a speaker that you'll also have attached to you. What's more, it doesn't require batteries, as it runs on pure human dignity (this feature still not confirmed). This video from CES makes it seem as if it works about 80 percent of the time, which maybe is to be expected, considering it's only going to set you back $30. Look for it (or don't) in March.

Arise, Zombie Frank Zappa, and set this world right again.

Wow...never going to waste my money on that piece of crap. This only makes me think even more that you might as well just go out and buy a guitar and get good at that rather than waste your time on something like an "air guitar" or Guitar Hero. Don't get me wrong, I love guitar hero and everything, but this air guitar thing just looks stupid.
Psaakyrn @ Jan 8th 2008 9:11AM
Might be better if it has cam thingie support.
Evan @ Jan 8th 2008 9:13AM
Wow.
fuliano626@psn @ Jan 8th 2008 9:17AM
either he sucks badly at air guitar or that thing is just a boombox attached to your belt. in other news........................
Magarnacle @ Jan 8th 2008 9:19AM
It is good to see that Activision is going to maintain the Guitar Hero brand by only partnering with reputable business people looking to add value. Seriously. What is the use of that product. It must be nice to have a giant mattress of Guitar Hero money to sleep on. Probably comfortable, plus all the hookers and meth you want.
Hopefully the Guitar Hero phenomenon somehow comes back to haunt these Activision people and more importantly the Air Band hero people. You have to hope that it somehow electrocutes people when it rains. That would be some justice...

WTF?????

"Well you have to know how to play the song..."
Ohhh K buddy... I'm pushing a bunch of complex coloured buttons to play smoke on the water.. what are you doing?
not that tapping buttons is any closer to playing the song, but waving your hand in front of your belt buckle is much further away imhop
bobartig @ Jan 8th 2008 2:49PM
The reason this fails is because there's no feedback mechanism to know when you're playing correctly versus wrong, or when you've missed a note, or why. For instance, if you miss a sequence, and the box goes silent, did you miss 3 notes or 5? Do I get the best results by just 'button mashing'?
Plus, this isn't a game.

"What's more, it doesn't require batteries, as it runs on pure human dignity."
It better not be powered from pure human dignity. Otherwise the player will have no power to operate after about 60 seconds. Powered on humiliation might be a better choice.
DCBlack @ Jan 8th 2008 10:38AM
As stupid as that looks, if I have $30 lying around this summer...nah, probably not. But it does seem like a funny gag, as long as it fits and looks like an actual belt. If it stands out too much, then it's just bad.
Grant @ Jan 8th 2008 1:03PM
yeah,
but then you also need to carry around the gay fanny pack boombox as well. So, all left over "but maybe..." factor is gone. It's just crap.
DCBlack @ Jan 8th 2008 7:09PM
Yeah, I agree with you Grant. That would be the breaking factor for me.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 8th 2008 10:44AM
Must... not.. by..gadget.. out of pure lolz...
At least you don't need a TV screen and you can walk around with it wherever you want.
If you rock wherever you want that is.
Nudgenudge @ Jan 8th 2008 10:46AM
Woah. OK, Guitar Hero wins so hard against Rock Band, this is the best possible add-on to the game.
Then again, maybe not.
Mike @ Jan 8th 2008 12:28PM
I could see kids really loving this until they hit the age where they have some kind of humility.
deABREU @ Jan 8th 2008 12:38PM
This guy is so embarassing to look at.
Ashe @ Jan 8th 2008 1:30PM
Imagine how awkward that must feel to be trying to demonstrate a crappy product on camera, and the thing fails pretty much right off the bat?
John Morgan @ Jan 8th 2008 1:37PM
He just had some camera jitters. After he got warmed up, the thing worked as advertised...
LlamaFarmer @ Jan 8th 2008 1:52PM
How lame-sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez- he couldn't even get the belt buckle right. Everyone knows if you are rawkin the air guitar, you must be wearing, with no exceptions, a Foreigner belt buckle.

"What's more, it doesn't require batteries, as it runs on pure human dignity (this feature still not confirmed)"
lol @ J. McElroy. you are a crazy fellow, and this is quite possibly the dumbest product of the year.....and we're only 8 days in.....
ColossalHat @ Jan 8th 2008 4:18PM
I'm not sure, but this seems to me to be completely fake. Thusly, I call shenanigans!
If it's not shenanigans, then this is the single worst idea ever approved by activision.
Jeremy @ Jan 9th 2008 3:08PM
And the award for the Biggest Tool goes too.....
This is just absolutely humiliatingly horrible.
But when you got GH money you can basically do whatever you want. I just feel sorry for the kids that get this. Happy b-day I hate you here's your gift.
