Folklore keeps telling tales with two new DLC packs
The developers of Folklore are really going carpe diem with the downloadable content, which keeps the sleeper title in our faces and compels us to keep writing about it. The game that can be described simply as "Pokémon for adults" is getting two new add-on packs in the near future on the PlayStation Network called The Alchemist Pack and The Origin of Belgae; the packs are priced at $4 each or bundled for $6.
Folklore's The Alchemist Pack follows protagonist Ellen as she goes to the Undersea City to find her mother, while The Origin of Belgae sees her traveling to the Netherworld during the time of the original adventure. If nothing else, these constant add-ons for Folklore help build a cult following and certainly keep us talking about a title that would have otherwise been long-forgotten by now.

Yeah, most of the people I know that aren't family who play Pokemon are above 20. Know why? Because I don't hang out with 12 year olds....anymore. I'm appealing the case though.

That's really sad.

God, what the hell is Sony thinking!? First Motorstorm, now Folklore? What do they think, people actually WANT added longevity to their games? And they expect people to PAY for this optional, extra content? Are they NUTS?

If you are a fan of the game, wouldn't you be happy?

Download-able content seems to be the direction the gaming industry is going (examples being Halo, Guitar Hero, Ninja Gaiden...etc). The best way to show them that we are not willing to pay for it...is to not buy it. Unfortunately, I hate waiting for these type of things to be free but I'm not the first one to buy things.

Man, what did Joystiq bitch... er, write about before DLC packs came out?
Lard @ Jan 8th 2008 7:15PM
Calling Folklore Pokemon for adults is like saying Halo is a FPS for jocks.

Surely this was all planned from the start. I forsee in a year or so from now another edition of Folklore with the DLC added-in. I'll wait for that I guess. I didn't think the demo was all that anyway, too comic bookish.

Personally i really liked Folklore, I however did not finish the game. Sadly the only games I managed to finish this holiday season was Assassins Creed and Mass Effect. All all games I played as much as I could, but I never had enough time. I bought my PS3 in November and bought folklore as well uncharted...they both kept me entertained for well over 20 hours, but I never finished either. Then Galaxies, CoD4, Mass Effect, Crysis, etc. the list goes on.
I think folklore was an amazing game, beautiful art style, okay story, and fun combat system. Trying to figure out what creatures to use in order to suck up their souls was interesting. Personally, I wish it was 2 player and I wish the worlds were a little more...nonlinear/lived in.
