Ikaruga back on Xbox 360 PartnerNet
Treasure's crazed, color-coded shoot 'em up Ikaruga has been found on PartnerNet, an alternate form of Xbox Live for developers to use for testing code, according to a poster at the SHMUPS forums. The game was reportedly a 49.04 MB download, and captured screenshots show menus for the leaderboard and replay system. Also noteworthy is that the game supports both 16:9 and 16:10 aspect ratios.
Ikaruga's appearance on PartnerNet does not necessarily mean the game will be released anytime soon, although there does seem to be an indication that the game is nearing completion. Ikaruga was announced for XBLA alongside Rez, which is slated for release this month.

I have it for the Gamecube... it's one of the most difficult games ever.
Still, I'm going to get it for the 360... it's going to be hard to get all the achievements.

I'm going to hire this guy to get my achievements: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToBdzV7w5Pc

One thing that they didn't show in the video is that he was also making a sandwich with his feets.

@ Fernando
One of the best comments I have seen ever. And your English* (not poking fun, no worries mate) made it even better.
*plural form for foot is feet, not feets. But no worries.

One of the best comments I have seen ever. And your mistaken net-lingo* (not poking fun, no worries mate) made it even better.
*plural form for foot is often intentionally written as feets, when cracking a joke teh intertubes. It's funnier that way.

Ahhh, I can't wait for the general crying coming from the forums about the difficulty of this game. I'm in love all over again.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jan 8th 2008 12:49PM
Okay, now THIS is exciting. Unlike Rez HD, which is about a 5 minute treat, this is a solid game. It'd be a great release.
The GC version even had a mode where you could turn your TV sideways to get the true vertical shooter experience. With modern flat-panels this will be much easier.
Ikaruga ftw.
Platy @ Jan 8th 2008 5:35PM
...or you could play it on wii xD

Ha! I wish! =)

Can you give us any more information on it supporting 16:10 resolution? This could be HUGE news for everyone that's playing the 360 on a computer monitor.
Ross @ Jan 8th 2008 1:15PM
My guess would be that it just looks at whether your outputing 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 and displaying it as 16:10 or 16:9 accordingly, instead of most xbox games which look a little stretched when viewed on 1920x1200 screen.
jadenguy @ Jan 8th 2008 3:49PM
I just wish more games had support for 16:12 instead of just cropping.
arrrgh @ Jan 8th 2008 1:07PM
HELL FREKIN YES!! 16:10 ftw!!~@!~@!
Daniel O @ Jan 8th 2008 1:15PM
I just wonder, then, how this interacts with the 360s system settings of display resolution and further if other games can be updated to display at 16:10 resolutions in game, circumventing the system settings.
It sure would be nice to play games the way they're supposed to look, instead of like stretched garbage cos I couldn't afford an extra $200 for A DIFFERENT ASPECT RATIO!
Ross @ Jan 8th 2008 1:19PM
You can always set it to output 1920x1080 and just turn off the "fill" option on your monitor. There will be a 60pixel black bar at the top and bottom but you'll have the correct aspect, otherwise the only way to make every game 16:10 and correct aspect would be to crop the image, which would be a mismatchin output resolution and your native resolution. Any, I play on a 24" LG monitor that has HDMI inputs so I just set the Xbox to 1080p and tell the monitor not to stretch the image by filling.
Vince @ Jan 8th 2008 1:21PM
so the game supports 16:9 and 16:10. big whoop. The real question is if it supports 90 degree tilt.
jadenguy @ Jan 8th 2008 3:51PM
always has, hopefully always will
xFenixKnightx @ Jan 8th 2008 1:26PM
Omega 5 manana and then this FT-fricken-W!! =)
SonicRift @ Jan 8th 2008 1:40PM
Wow! So I'll have Rez and Ikaruga on the 360? Throw in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and I can put my Dreamcast away!
jynxycat @ Jan 8th 2008 1:43PM
RezHD was on PNet a few months ago. Kinda nice, but it's offset by the fact that some other games aren't available, or aren't newer versions.
It's all offset by the fact that it's completely free :)
reductant @ Jan 8th 2008 4:15PM
Finally, this game is so mesmerizing if you get into the chaining aspect of it. Here are some screen shots
http://www.gamersyde.com/news_5719_en.html
If you scroll down, you can see someone has a link to an image with the game rotated and you can clearly see the aspect ratio option. If you rotate your LCD vertically, having 16:10 is essential, as there are no rotating 720p/1080p screens.
bm @ Jan 8th 2008 4:44PM
What use is widescreen in this case? The way the game works, all you're going to get is larger sidebars anyway (be it in regular or rotated mode), because they're not going to screw up the gameplay by enlarging the playing field.
They might just as well not have bothered.
F1shBone @ Jan 8th 2008 11:45PM
Its about f****** time they start releasing console games in 16:10!!!
JBourrie @ Jan 9th 2008 1:51PM
Cool, but I'm not so sure I want to play a game as intricate as Ikaruga with that god-awful X360 d-pad. It made Tetris nearly unplayable, my guess is that Ikaruga will have similar issues. I'll try it out, but I might just have to stick with the Dreamcast version.
