So PS3 owners are mean enough to shoot their children and 360 owners are stupid enough to give someone a gun and ask for it.

And Wii owners? They just love the tape holding those gamecubes together.

Justin,

That's a tad disengenius. No 360 with the RRoD is going to cost anyone another $350.00, as it would be covered under warrenty.

As for the story, unfortunately, people get stuck on stupid.

Dunno, maybe it was the victim of a second-degree sledgehammer in a fit of rage. Does the warranty cover that?

You see that's the problem with US gun laws. The idea that everyone can be armed, means that even stupid people can get guns.

Sorry PA,

It's not the gun laws that cause stupid people to be stupid, it's the stupid people. The right to keep and bear arms is in our Bill of Rights, and it's there for a reason. The second amendment is just as important as the 1st amendment.

Stupid people also kill others with knives, motor vehicles, ropes, etc.

yeah, but you usually stand a better chance with those items. I'm not saying ban guns in the US, becuase it won't happen. Just some stronger checks other then ticking the "I'm not crazy" box would be a start. Being able to count to 11 without taking their socks off, would help too.

Know thy history. If it wasn't for British soldiers trying to disarm the citizens of Concord and Lexington, the US Revolution would have never kicked off. Disarmament is an important pre-requisite of a tyrany, which is why the 2A was put in second. Also, since rights aren't a collective but an individual concept (read the Constitution again if you disagree, it never mentions rights of groups), the National Guard being the militia part doesn't fly. The National Guard isn't a militia, it is Government paid and General Militia is defined as every able bodied citizen with a weapon.

Ultimately, if we have Government dictating who is competent enough to own a firearm, all they can do is say only those under their employ are competent. You telling me the high school diploma required for a police officer is enough to make them competent for a lifetime concealed carry right in all 50 states but a highly educated individual with broader firearm training isn't?

Just look at your local politician to see where things are going. It is illegal in California to carry weapons or own automatics, yet Nancy Pelosi has personal bodyguards that violate both of those. No politician is more important than the people that elect them, but Government has cleary forgotten that.

Funny, I thought the US revalotion kicked off becuase a load of rich land owners didn't want to pay tax and thought it was a much nicer idea to take over and have tax paid to them.

Americans have their right to own guns, but that's not a problem. The real problem is that they feel so unsafe that they think they need guns.

Good point. A number of contrys allow common gun ownership and don't have a problems. Canada and Sweden spring to mind. Ah, that's it then. It's just Americans that shouldn't have guns.

Not even close. It wasn't the rich landowners, it was everyone impacted by the 3% tea tax. Tea has been a major part of British culture for centuries and the tax was impacting the whole of the colonies, not just those with cash to burn. This is, incidentally, why we're still more bent toward coffee.

There was minimal violence and most of the colonies were against joining any kind of revolutionary effort prior to the disarmament effort. In fact, most of the energies were poured into diplomatically asking the Brits to just let them govern themselves, something that would have happened anyway given the course of history and Britain's releasing of colonies over the 230 years since.

No, the actual start of the revolution was armed soldiers marching through Concord and Lexington, trying to tell the colonials they were too dangerous and incompetent to own guns. The colonials said, "Over our dead bodies," and started shooting. Thus the actual war started.

I always find it hilarious whenever we get political types trying to restrict weapon ownership and concurrently lay praise on the likes of Thomas Jefferson, who said this:

"Let your gun be your constant companion on your walks... this gives exercise to the body and independence to the mind... no free man shall ever be debarred the use of guns."

No free man shall ever be debarred the use of guns. If someone comits a crime and are placed in prison, they are no longer free, so that makes sense. But I'm free, I committed no crime, so I should, nor anyone who has committed no crime, be refused the use of guns, and given the wording and other parts of our hallowed Constitution, this includes automatic weapons and even ships of war (see the Letters of Marquis section under Article 2, it was hard to hire private Americans to fight pirates without them owning private warships).

"A free people [claim] their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their chief magistrate." --Thomas Jefferson: Rights of British America, 1774. ME 1:209, Papers 1:134

This is the same man that President John Kennedy (a hero to gun control folks) said was more intelligent than entire room of Nobel Lauriets and himself put together.

I'm pretty sure that more people in the US die every year from stab wounds (which are generally far more dangerous than a gunshot), vehicles and any other means you can think of. Guns in the hands of idiots get more attention than knives in the hands of idiots because the media likes it that way.

this has nothing to do with history, it has to do with safety and practicality. if americans are safer by having guns, why are there exorbitantly more gun homicides in the US than in gun-free societies? only country hicks want them because americans that live in urban areas (MOST of us) understand that they promote gang culture, crimes (esp. murders) of passion, and greatly increase the chance of (potentially deadly) violence against a person.

Um, what? Russia's murder rate is 30 per 100,000, total gun ban. Brazil's murder rate is 14 per 100,000, total gun ban. Mexico's murder rate is 17 per 100,000, only .22s are legal but only with a lengthy registration porces.

Contrast:

Finland, 1.7 per 100,000, no restrictions. Israel, 1.4 per 100,000, no restrictions. Switzerland, 2.2 per 100,000, no restrictions.

Hmm, wrong on firearms control much?

Another contrast:

UK - 4,000 violent crimes per 100,000

US - 470 violent crimes per 100,000

The UK is so safe since those gun bans, yep...
