Pikmin and Captain Olimar join the Smash Bros. Brawl cast
FINALLY, some new and interesting information arrives on the official Smash Bros. Brawl blog, this time announcing Pikmin's Captain Olimar as a playable character. According to the blog, Olimar fights by plucking Pikmin from the ground, and most of his attacks are done indirectly through the adorable little creatures.
Olimar brings the number of new characters announced in Brawl up to an even twelve, equal to the number of veteran fighters announced. With everything all neat and tidy, could this be the last announced character for the game before its release? Do we have more secret characters to look forward to once the game is out, or has Nintendo gone and spoiled all the fun? We'll find out soon enough.

I want a Wii now, please.
Ghen @ Jan 9th 2008 1:07PM
My house is open any time =) 52" screen and a giant living room with a fireplace behind you warming your bum as you swing the wiimote like you just don't care.
ivan @ Jan 9th 2008 1:36PM
@ Ghen "warming your bum as you swing the wiimote"
pederast alert!
dagwood @ Jan 9th 2008 6:37AM
While this is cool. It was a let down as well. I saw the word Pikmin in the RSS feed and thought it was for a new Pikmin game. Please Nintendo, bring Olimar back for a another adventure. So many new wii owners haven't met him yet.
mr mobius @ Jan 9th 2008 11:04AM
The Wii is made for a Pikmin game.
Also, since DS has graphics and power of approximately the same as N64, could it not now be time to have a Super Smash Bros DS. Portable Smash Bros has to be a hit, even if it didn;t have as many characters and levels, it would still be a great idea. A quick game of SSB while on the train or something on way to work/school etc makes a huge lot of sense.
rockintom @ Jan 9th 2008 6:54AM
Holy awesomeness, batman. Also a big helping of "wtf".
Drew @ Jan 9th 2008 6:54AM
The first thing that came to mind when I read this was "Pokemon trainer".
A good counter, really. I dunno, I just can't wait to get this game. I wanted this back when I first got my Wii on launch day :(
MosquitoControl @ Jan 9th 2008 6:58AM
Not really into the indirect fighters.
And I hope there are more unannounced. C'mon. Marth! Marth! Marth!
FOXHOUND @ Jan 9th 2008 7:47AM
Marth is fine, but I'm still perplexed as to why we have "this" Captain... and not the Donkey(Kong)punching one.
Crono (NDF - Knight of the Old School) @ Jan 9th 2008 10:26AM
Marth? How about Ike, since he's in 2 games playable on Wii already.
I don't even know who marth is other than he was in smash and was from some fire emblem game. Ike is in Path of Radiance AND Radiant Dawn.
B1gC72 @ Jan 10th 2008 1:32AM
yea, where the hell is Captain Falcon? not that i use him anyway but i do use Kirby and i like the Falcon Punch.
michas_pi @ Jan 9th 2008 7:04AM
Well, seeing that Melee is confirmed for Brawl now and so are the stars from the Pikmin series, the only "super-secret" character left is Master Chief.
You heard it here first, folks.
rockintom @ Jan 9th 2008 7:39AM
You think you're the first person to say that?
michas_pi @ Jan 9th 2008 8:26AM
@rockintom: Of course not. My post is not supposed to make sense.
Jerk Face @ Jan 9th 2008 10:03AM
Master Chief in Brawl CONFIRMED.
Obie @ Jan 9th 2008 10:48AM
MC would be pwnd by every single character, what would his special attacks be? Up+B= Squeaky XBL kid. :p
BPM64 - The Second Attack! @ Jan 9th 2008 11:33AM
And his down+B is teabag.
Mr.ESC @ Jan 9th 2008 11:38AM
I beg to differ,Master chief would pwn in brawl.I would love to see a fight between MC and Snake or a tag team.
Now where is freaking Megaman?
James @ Jan 9th 2008 7:04AM
It's impossible to make a perfect sounding game better. But just like the Wii and DS Nintendo surprises again.
Kenofthedead @ Jan 9th 2008 7:09AM
While I'm happy, I would rather have a Pikmin 3.
Sure there is Eco Creatures coming out on the DS with the same feel, but it won't be the same.
JodyAnthony (death by snoo-snoo) @ Jan 9th 2008 8:40AM
this just made me think screw pikmin wii, i would love a pikmin DS
B1gC72 @ Jan 10th 2008 1:24AM
i just want a new Pikmin period! that game was great! the DS and Wii both seem to a match made in heaven for new Pikmin games.
Psaakyrn @ Jan 9th 2008 7:14AM
Randomly imagines Conker being announced. (and simultaneously pushing the ERSB rating to MA)
Obie @ Jan 9th 2008 7:26AM
hahaha awesome.
But seriously Nintendo, Pikmin sequel for the Wii with online co-op...dooooo it!
Tuatara @ Jan 9th 2008 10:40AM
Was that a Soulja Boy reference? Dear me...
Shawn Handyside @ Jan 9th 2008 7:36AM
I assume Olimar's Super Smash is controlling a giant Bulborb and eating your enemies!
I imagine we'll see a few more characters announced as the last few weeks of hype continues to build. I'm predicting Pac-Man and Mii's. Pac-Man has already done a crossover in Mario Kart Arcade and if you can use your Mii's in "Mario & Sonic Olympics", why not Smash?
Adam @ Jan 9th 2008 7:55AM
I was hoping his final smash would be his ship coming crashing down and breaking into pieces.
vidGuy @ Jan 9th 2008 8:00AM
Since they originally promised 30-40 fighters, I'd like to see 12 veterans, 12 newcomers, and 12 unlockables (not clones) that they won't show us before release. I'd expect only 6 though, for an even total of 30.
flameofdoom666 @ Jan 9th 2008 2:11PM
Well, in the first smash bros for N64, Luigi, Jigglypuff, Ness and Captain Falcon were unlockable characters. THey have not been mentiened, and I am sure 3 of them will come back. Ness might not because of Lucas, but then again- they are bringing Onnet back- so ya never know. That is atleast 3 I am sure of, then you havee Gannondorf who will definately come back. And as far as Falco- I think Krystal will replace him. And I also think Cel Shading link will appear instead of young link. I think there will be alot of secret characters.
Aaeon @ Jan 9th 2008 8:03AM
I love Pikmin - great to see it added to Smash Brothers.
Like others here... I also want a Wii Pikman. Pikman 2 Is one of my all time favorite Nintendo titles.
Jonah Falcon @ Jan 9th 2008 8:13AM
At this point, Dr. Robotnik is pissed off he's not in it.
Adv2k1 @ Jan 9th 2008 9:07AM
we have enough heavy weights no dr. eggman.
I love Pikmin games so this is great news. You never know if Pikmin 3 is coming. After Smash, Mario Kart, WiiFit what else is coming this year?
zelderman @ Jan 9th 2008 2:00PM
No More Heroes

samfish @ Jan 9th 2008 9:20AM
I still want to see Mega Man, Viewtiful Joe and Mr. Miyamoto as playable characters.
Mr.ESC @ Jan 9th 2008 11:42AM
Viewtiful Joe FTW.
Am I the only one concerned about Tails and Knuckles appearance? I mean Sonic is in so by mere logic Tails, Knucles and Dr Eggman should be in Brawl.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 9th 2008 12:52PM
Mr. Miyamoto would be the final boss, right after Dr. Kawashima's head.
(Dr Kawashima Super Smash reference from Awkward Zombie)
Secre @ Jan 9th 2008 9:54AM
Just as I lose all hope in seeing new character updates, especially on the one character I use the most in Melee, this post is made. Here's to renewed hope for Sheik :).
On the other hand... Captain Olimar? That's probably got to be the most WTFest moment in the Dojo's history.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 9th 2008 12:53PM
Mr. Game and Watch was more WTF than Olimar.
t_m @ Jan 9th 2008 10:15AM
The Wii needs some RTS games. A pikmin game would be a great start.
(why are developers ignoring the genres that'd work really well with the Wiimote, and shoveling out titles in genres that will never work well with the wiimote???)
Undead Priest @ Jan 9th 2008 10:19AM
I am now, officially, extremely happy with SSBB.
Joe @ Jan 9th 2008 10:39AM
I hope not I still want to see the Megaman or Zero rumors to become true.
Also may be in the next update there will be news of a DS version of Super Smash bros. Now I would really like to see that game on the DS.
Superstar90 @ Jan 9th 2008 10:40AM
They still haven't announced Paper Mario and cel-shaded Link. With new movesets!
Joe @ Jan 9th 2008 10:40AM
I hope not I still want to see the Megaman and Zero rumors to become true.
Plus I hope in the next update there is news of a DS Super Smash game. Now that would be awesome news.
Pika Fire @ Jan 9th 2008 10:43AM
So I guess they retired Ness. :(
bye Ness, you will be missed. :(
ThornedVenom @ Jan 9th 2008 12:54PM
Poor Scottish lake monster indeed.
Marty @ Jan 9th 2008 10:59AM
If they add any more characters, it's going to go from Smash Bros. Brawl to Smash Bros. War!
Roto13 @ Jan 9th 2008 11:30AM
To everyone who said that Olimar couldn't fight/was too small (even though Kirby is only like 3 inches tall):
HAH! HAH TO YOU IN YOUR FACE!
Cuja @ Jan 9th 2008 11:31AM
I wish they would do this exact game using superheroes instead.
Psaakyrn @ Jan 9th 2008 8:07PM
Lots of fanboys would secretly be happy if Nintendo ever turns to a software only company. It's the only way "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" will ever happen as a good full-fledged game. (not counting Mugen because of 2 player limitations)
