Rumorang: Goldeneye coming to Xbox Live Arcade

Resting their cred on "very reliable sources" and evidence that they claim to have seen, Xbox Evolved is reporting that Nintendo 64 classic Goldeneye will be coming to the Xbox Live Arcade shortly before Activision (the current 007 IP holder) releases their new James Bond title. The news comes (according to the site) after an agreement between Microsoft, Rareware, MGM Studios and Activision. XE says the game will feature new graphics and online multiplayer, and that other Rare games may be in the pipeline like Banjo Kazooie and Perfect Dark.

OK, sounds great, but is it true? We have no evidence one way or the other, but we think it would at least make sense for all the parties. Microsoft gets more solid XBLA titles, Rare (which is owned by Microsoft) reminds people of the company's glory days and MGM gets more publicity for James Bond. As for Activision, well, we already know they're not above pimping out a license for cash. We'll keep you updated.

I heard this months ago from a friend, whos friend is testing it atm at rare. I know that sounds shady and unreliable. He told me all about PDZ before the 360 was out. Take what you want. I can't wait tbh though.

color me jealous if this is true. a update to the dated graphics and online play would certainly breathe new life into the game. i have noticed that the XBLA does do this better than Sony and Nintendo who simply churn out old games exactly as they were before, and the nostalgic lure wears off very quickly. cool, but not nearly enough to make me buy a 360 lol.

Except, as many have pointed out...Nintendo published it. Rare cant just go in and "rewrite" some stuff...Nintendo owns the rights to the game, pretty much everything in it. Dont get me wrong, so does Rare...but Nintendo owns a bit more than the N64 engine it runs off of. I can't see this happening without Nintendo getting some sort of fair compensation.

And, even if publishing doesnt mean anything...see the little "only for" thingy? Betcha theres a nifty little contract behind that.

GoldenEye for XBLA was cancelled in it's final stages due to legal
issues with the big N, quite petty issues at that. Therefore, no Rare
owned IP or GoldenEye will appear on Virtual Console.

a true shooter classic. this game is definitely up there with doom, wolfenstein, system shock 2 and deus ex. i really hope they put this on XBLA and perfect dark too. both amazing games. conker would be nice too.

Never never putting those 007 classic goldeneye on any damn system. i will not be appericate if y'all doing it right now or whatever. it gonna be big issue problem. i won't let u putting xbox live. it all stupidity ideas from company. leave it to WII i gurantee Wii 3 will be best one. with live. i should ask them to make WII 3 LIVE and have dvd too. make it look solid system of nintendo never let glory of old days back in goldeneye for nintendo 64 just leave it ALONE. cuz' it's classic. i always defending for this. please make some changes. but i always never liked xbox. cuz' it kinda bored games but mostly halo. controllers sucks. PS3 is awesome. doesn't matter what u think.

It is said that it stalled because they could not get the actors wont agree. And they game will not feature new grfx, just updated ones to fit the new screen format so it doesnt stretch like a popped ballon. But there are rumors that it will feature Xbl Multiplayer.

There's already a goldeneye with better graphics that stays true to the original. That's called GE: Source and it's a free mod to HL2. There's a PD: Source too. and I'm utterly pissed about this because banjo kazooie was the game I wanted most to see released over VC on the wii. Now I'll hafta bring my n64 to my dorm and play em off the old carts.
