Smash Bros. Melee's Multi-Man mode, which pitted you against tons of wire frame models was a great way to take out your aggressions, especially if a wire frame model had just beaten you out for the big promotion or the WF Gang was picking on you in school. Smash Bros. Brawl's take on the lengthy battle mode looks to be even more satisfying though, with wire frames replaced by the the much more substantial-sounding Fighting Alloy Team.
More exciting is the revelation that a buddy will be able to join you in your campaign against the colorful robots from all the way across the country with online co-op. There's also just regular old two-player, for all the Smash Bros. fanatics' real life friends ... Hey, if you don't use a mode long enough, do you think it will actually get dusty?

It's one thing when another site reports it first, its another when nintendowiifanboy.com reports it(a sister/brother site).
Not saying its a slow news day though j/k, and I sure as hell didn't type "OMG teh olde news, must be a slow news day, etc., etc."

Since joystiq ate my post...
It's one thing when another news site posts this first(over my joystiq) it's another when a sister/brother site posts it just one day earlier (nintendowiifanboy.com).
Anyway I was j/k, and I sure as hell didn't type "OMG teh olde news, must be a slow news day, etc., etc."

hey, Jtenma. Not everyone reads all of the engadget sister sites regularly. joystiq.com often reports on a story posted on one of those 'other' sites, since the good people at it recognise that fact.

This might actually be fun if there was anyway at all to communicate with your friend in Nintendo's technophobic online service.

Agreed...if theres one thing that disappoints me about Nintendo and the Wii its the online (or lack thereof). I'd love to see Nintendo adopt something akin to xbox live but with OPTIONS. Thats the keyword there. THey shouldn't be punishing everyone else who wants a free open community just because of some lil kiddies.
Protect the kids Nintendo but let the adults play as well.

I agree; Nintendo is all but killing the sense of a community, which is just about the entire point of the online experience. I never actually thought an EA alternative would be better than a first party online system, but EA's Messenger, the system used with MOH:H2, destroys anything Ninty has done so far.
I can't believe I'm about to do this, but hell, I feel as though its more of a service to you than to me; I'm holding Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournaments as soon as the game comes out, giving out prizes and whatnot (what I can afford to give, anyway), if anyone's interested, check out groups.myspace.com/ssbbc
Thats right, I can't afford an internet domain. Wanna fight about it?

@ Fatass
Hilarious name btw...
I might join. God knows I love me some Smash Bros...it might sound crazy but Melee gets as much playtime on my Wii as Galaxy is getting right now.

I only care about the community on Steam based games since it's so well implimented.
I don't really care on consoles. I just want to face off against someone smarter than the AI.

Jesus, i don't know if you guys have noticed but there isn't much of an online community in most games. Just people shouting abuse at one another. The real, or at least pleasant, communities are on MMOs.
After a long time of playing games online, i think that not having voice input is a good thing. Has anyone ever actually had a good conversation with a perfect stranger during a game of Halo!? And, if so, does the number of good conversations outmatch the number of idiots singing or shouting? No. That's a physical impossibility unless you play exclusively with friends.
If i want to play randomers i want to play them. Not talk. Hell, most of the time playing with randomers disintegrates into spouting non-sensical insults in games WITHOUT voice support (Warcraft 3, for instance).
Face it; when it comes to free online services, their make-up tends to be 90% asshole. The 10% of bearable conversationalists are drowned out by the twats. Yes, private channels would be nice, and yes, in that context voice support would be vital. But there is no communication (i mean, aside from the taunting amongst friends). Just gaming. If i want to make friends with someone just to play Smash Bros i'll just talk to folks on a forum.
The worst thing about anonymous gameplay is that you might end up fighting your best friend on there and not know it. Although, if you both sussed it out later it would certainly make for an interesting conversation.

I've done some research, and it turns out that Nintendo's draconian online policies are as much part of a cultural disconnect (read: Japanese are not fans of online multiplayer)
If they let Nintendo of America spearhead the online division, i'm 80% sure it would at least equal PSN. I mean look at Metroid Prime Hunters, if that had been on any network other than WFC, its online features would definitely have been considered kosher for a modern online FPS

At this point, the only thing I could care about in regards to SSBB news is that it's out in stores.
