I would figure they'd just concentrate on the specific ones people still ask about. I still want Rallisport Challenge 2...

They have said things like this in the past. I remember some interview where they claimed this was basically going to be slowing down, but there have been 2 to 3 updates since then. So who knows.

Is the third Prince of Persia game backwards compatible? I'd traded in my X-Box for a 360 before I'd realized that was out.

xbox originals are mearly emulated xbox games. If they can get those working, then they already got it working for backwards compatible. I would hate to see them take the time to make it an XBO and then not add it to the backwards compatible list.

BTW are old games stillg etting added to your gamercard as 0 points? I havent played any of my old games, dont want to ruin my card. Well that and I have enough 360 games Im still playing.

Yes. I play my BC games on a silver gamertag. Since there's no guide functionality when emulating anyway, there's zero reason to play it on your gold account. (unless you want to gum up your gamercard with 0 gs games)

Is this something that just started happening? I used to play BC games all the time and I don't see any of them on my gamercard.

How about fixing the games that are wonky? Like Silent Hill 2 which only works with the US copy of the game, despite it being listed on all BC lists. Or the bugs that plague a wide variety of other games on the list.

This is my issue as well. I have no problem stopping the BC initiative, but if they release a XB original, then the actual game disc should allow you to play it for free.

Yeah,

But until the fix the DRM crap I'm not buying anything. Been almost 4 months since I exchanged my RRoD box for a new one and I still don't have access to all of my downloaded content because the licenses are attached to the old console and Live's been wonky for the past month. So until I know they'll be able to transfer licenses easily if I have another box fail, I'm not buying anything.

Honestly, with the 360's game library as robust as it is now... I'm really ok with this.

I find it hard to take time away from new games that I'm neglecting now to play games that I've neglected in the past anyway.

What about the claim when the 360 came out. 'We aim to have most of the back catalogue available to work on the 360 within the next 3 years'. They soon gave up on that.

It isn't much of a loss, but they never really intended to allow BC, and now they can charge for games, I expect they want to do it that way, rather than doing it for free.

I think as far as the gamerscore thing goes, we should be allowed to delete games from the list that we dont like. Maybe like if you played a game for a few minutes... earned 0 achievement and dont want to play it anymore. you should be allowed to delete it..

no no no no no no no no NO!!!!

They CAN'T quit until we get Beyond Good & Evil, Castlevania: CoD, Gunvalkyrie, Kung Fu Chaos, BOTH Hunters, the Midway Arcade Treasures, Obscure, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, Prince of Persia 2 & 3, Psi-Ops, Second Sight, Sudeki, Suffering 2, BOTH Timesplitters, Tron 2.0, Voodoo Vince, The Warriors and BOTH X-men Legends!!!

Those are all Xbox 1 games that I own and either a) never finished and really want to, b) want to play again because they were so awesome, or c) pull out occasionally and play with my friends due to a lack of good co-op games that I own for the 360. Seeing as how my xbox 1 crapped out a few months ago (and I don't have the extra hookups anyways) I *really* wanted to see these games on the BC list.

wow. microsoft is acting so stupid. we still have to pay for xbox live. we wont be getting any new updates. not like its necessary but its fun sometimes to play those old games without having an old xbox. and they seem to act like they really dont care about the customers. this is pitiful. not just this backwards compatible stuff cuz it really doesnt matter but its more about the customers and what people want out of their system. i'm sure plenty of people want free xbox live....plenty of people..geez microsoft. what is up!

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't make Riddick back compat since they've already announced that it is coming out for the 360 with a bonus level and multiplayer.

If i see they start bringing out Xbox Originals and try selling them for the rip off price they are now but yet if i own the xbox disk i can't play them, I'm going to be pretty darn pissed off.

Cause that means it IS backwards compatible their just forcing you to buy the game again. That's going to be a low blow and the sad thing is i can honestly see them doing it.

I suppose it shouldn't bug me to badly, i have my original Xbox but that sort of behavior would be to far.

I wonder how much of the work they would need to do for getting titles backward-compatible, and for preparing titles for Classics is the same. Seems like either way, the goal is making the same data do the same thing on the same hardware. The only difference is they don't get paid for providing backward compatibility, while Classics let them sell the same games again. They're just monetizing what probably the same effort either way.

As soon as Sony officially gave up the ghost with their announcement that they've now quit manufacturing the 60GB PS3 for Japan as well, that was all MS needed to give up on their BC titles.

The more I think about this, the more it pisses me off. If Microsoft thought that there was no longer a market for the older titles, then they wouldn't be offering them on XBLM or would at least offer them for a let less or even free. They know that we can find most of the original titles either brand new or used for less than they want to charge, so the only way to ensure that we'll fork out the money to them is to no longer provide updates to the BC list. Whatever, I've got Steel Battalion, so I don't have any intention of getting rid of my original box.

You didn't seriously ask that last question, did you?

Xbox Originals and Backwards Compatibility are one and the same, the only difference being are the bits stored on an optical vs. magnetic disc. If you notice, the issues they warn you about on the XO games are identical to the issues they warn you about on the same games on the BC list.

All they do is take the original DVD and let you download it. Look at Fuzion Frenzy -- they didn't even bother removing the code for the demos that shipped on the original disc in the XO version (even though those demos aren't officially supported) for pete's sake! (Safe decision, laziness, or a conspiracy to waste your HDD space so you'll have to buy a bigger hard drive? You decide.)

I can't say I'm entirely surprised, but it is disappointing. If only in principle. Although my kids still play the black box a bit (probably because it doesn't have a parental timer on it), I haven't used it myself in a long time.

I still was hoping for MechAssault. They've already done MA2, but not the original.

Really glad that ESPN NFL 2K5 finally went BC, also.

I was also holding out hope for Midnight Club: DUB Edition, but I guess I won't hold my breath any longer.

I'm dismayed by this. I was hoping for more BC, MS. I think MS could have sold more 360s with full backward compatibility. There it is, I said it. Now I would like to see them complete the task. Or at least let someone else at the task. I'm sure the community would have at BC if MS could somehow integrate it. Say '$100 for the first BC Codec added and approved by MS for each game' and let out an API. Why not a BC dashboard to make necessary adjustments?

OT I am totally against non-PS2 compatibly PS3s.

The only thing I really use my original xbox for is DDR Ultramixes for my exercise workouts (5-7 days/wk, 1-2 hrs/day - lost over 40 lbs and have kept it off for a few years now). The Ultramixes have some of my favorite DDR licensed songs ever which I will be very sad to lose the ability to play since they have not been made back compatible on the 360. I already lost one xbox original due to hard drive failure and bought a replcement original just for the DDR Ultramix games. Over the last couple weeks, my second has been showing signs of pending disc drive failure. Guess it is time to start looking for a tutorial on replacing the xbox disc drive as B/c will never happen apparently.
