The Kojima Productions Report podcast says Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is in its "last push" and moving into bug testing. ShackNews listened to the whole podcast and reports that MGS4's Q2 release date is still nebulous, but that the game will ship worldwide to various territories within days of each other.
Kojima Productions Report podcast host Ryan Payton says that MGS4 will have an "emergence day" where they'll give information like a release date, packaging content and other game details. This emergence date wasn't given and issues regarding the undying rumors of MGS4 on Xbox 360 were mentioned but not addressed.

Insert obligatory comments concerning an Xbox 360 release, low sales numbers due to low install base, ad infinitum.

Maybe this game will finally get released, will get good (not great) reviews like every other ps3 game, the fanboys can cry "this is the best game ever!!!", and we can move on with our lives. Maybe.

What are you talking about? MGS series are great; too bad I like the series more when they were multiplatform. PC FTW.
I recently bought MGS3 for 12$ and is great, I wouldn't call it a game is more like a movie and is pretty awesome.
About MGS4 I really want it for the XB360 (not because Xbots are jealous of teh Ps3 l33t skills like most Sony Fanboys suggest) because buying another console at this point is out of the question.

I haven't had a chance to play 3 yet but the first one was an amazing game. The second one was good but got very weird at the end and the story just got too over the top and convaluted. I'm not saying the games are bad, I'm just saying that there is no way that the game will or can live up to what the fanboys want it to be. The game will be good I'm sure, but won't be the second coming of christ like sony and it's fanboys want ppl to think. Like I said, let it get released so we can move on with our lives and bigger and better games.

truth. MGS3 was a solid game and wasn't as crazy as MGS2. Perhaps Kojima was in rehab when he was making MGS3.

If you ask me MGS3 is more like a James Bond Movie and I love JB movies.I feel MGS4 is going to be as weird as MGS2 but at least there is a monkey in MGS4,that makes up for something.
If I was a PS3 owner I would pre-order the limited edition of MGS4 ASAP,MGS3 special edition was so full of win,too bad I never got one but I watched the extra material on youtube and it was Gold Jerry,GOLD!

MGS games are so cinematic I almost feel like MGS4 will be like an HD remake of MGS3 or something. There is no doubt in my mind that MGS4 will be an outstanding game, but it has definately been talked about far too much for far too long. I mean, we are on the third year of heavy MGS4 coverage. It is just a single player once through and done. Fun and all, but it won't be something we'll be playing for a year straight.

MR.ESC ----
Though it's obvious from screen name alone that I'm not only hyped and anxiously awaiting the game; I sincerely hope KONAMI opts to release MGS4 with a nice fan bundle like they've done for previous games in Japan. Granted, SUBSISTENCE's limited edition bundle wasn't bad - especially if the customer was fortunate enough to get the Vol.1 Saga Disc(I quickly bought that... and wished I had bought a 2nd one to sell on eBay. It went for over double its price during that release month in March'06).
If I were to compile a modest, cost effective "fan edition" of MGS4 for Konami, I'd include:
» A volume 2 'Saga' Disc featuring *every* trailer of MGS4 since TGS'05, TV spots, and a 'behind the scenes' production & interview video
» Mini Artbook/gallery of concept, progress, CG, and final prints (sort of like the one that came with CV:PORTRAIT OF RUIN on the DS)
» Copy of a letter from Hideo Kojima, Yoji Shinkawa, and Ryan Payton about the MGS saga and this 4th SOLID game
» A "movie" disc, similar to the MGS3 SUBSISTENCE disc "Existence" for MGS3
» MGS4 designed SD Card or website link to download a save file that has possibly extra weaponry, soldier uniforms for MGS4ONLINE, or even PS3 themes of MGS4 characters
» MGS4 Soundtrack CD
» A fold out "timeline" mini-poster of the SOLID saga (again, like the CV:PORTRAIT OF RUIN extra)
...keeping in mind that this is the game that wraps up the Solid Saga; I figured the above would be a nice send off of "thanks" to MGS gamers for their support. A lot of this stuff is similar to what was actually handed out at that Leipzig(sp?) Games Convention, if I recall correctly.

The MGS series is amazing. Hideo Kojima's attention to detail and settling for nothing less than perfection in his games shows that they're masterpieces. The amount of shit you could do in MGS2 way back in 2001 was incredible, while still being one of the best looking games on the system.
You don't have to like MGS, but don't write the game off as garbage, because it clearly isn't.

I agree, the whole series is way overrated anyway. I played the very first one on PS1 and put it down after maybe an hour, then picked up and played Siphon Filter all the way through.

I'll pass on this one. I liked MGS1. It had fairly good writing and it worked well with the gameplay, which was okay by 99's standards (when most other games 3D translations of 2D game concepts as well). MGS2 is... broken, lacking a better way to describe it. It reeks of poor design, both as a narrative experience and as a video game and after I'd been subjected to it I lost interest in the series.

I have faith. I seem to remember the previous MGS games being pretty bug-free (well, unless you count the god-awful control schemes.)

actually baby sea tuna, I heard this time they are making it more flexible and offering different control schemes, one for western and one for eastern players, I don't remember if it was fully customizable or not..
..and I can't find the articles, since I don't remember if they were SFW or not, sorry ;__;

Yeah, the control scheme has changed -- not sure if they're keeping it "fully customizable" as mentioned in previous interviews, but it has been stated(and displaying in gameplay trailer)that the game can be played in both 1st(FPS) and 3rd person(free form camera with few fixed angles, somewhat like UNCHARTED).

Sony really needs to make a Q2 release with this game, especially since GTAIV will probably end up getting pushed back to holiday '08, they're going to need something genuinely splash-worthy sometime earlier in the year (and GT:5 Prologue certainly isn't going to be that game.)

probably not even worth mentioning, but I hope they're not rushing it. Nothing will fuel the fires more than a hurried/unpolished feeling game.

The control scheme is what it has to be. There is nothing wrong with a different control scheme. Just becuase it isn't standard, doesnt mean you have the right to bitch. Suck it up, and deal with it.
It's functional.

The control scheme is ok but the camera angles are awful in some parts.

By the look of the trailers I've seen so far, there are going to be a lot of cut scenes. Which I don't mind that much, just as long as he can keep them under 30 mins.

you know what, i have played this game a E for All in los angeles and the control scheme is great. It works really well with the game. Its not to much different than the old games, just a lot more fluid. Also with few extra features. Also the camera angles are not bad. The right joystiq lets you control the camera in a 360 motion. So the guy controlling the camera must suck

I sure hope they announce it for 360 at the LAST MOMENT, that would be hilarious. It'd also mean I'd have to shell out for it. I am realistic though, it looks extremely unlikely.
But anyway, good to see that MGS4 could be released worldwide very soon, I wasn't expecting it until nearer August/September time.

Oh, you mean because the 360 couldnt handle unreal engine 3, and the hardware is inferior to the ps3. Got it.

well i dont play MGS (rather have guns-a-blazing since i suck at stealth) but this is good for PS3 in general. this will give a much needed boost to the games line up granted it doesnt go multiplat.
