Today in Joystiq: January 11, 2008
We try not to highlight eBay auctions unless they're absolutely ridiculous, and this one takes the (lying) cake. That broken potato chip is being auctioned off as Pac Man, and of course someone has placed a bid for it to the tune of $100. Are the winning bidder and auction holder co-conspirators? We really, really hope so. (Thanks, Brian) Check out the highlights for today:

Mmmmm... Tasty potato chip. I want to eat it.
WhatIsThatThing @ Jan 12th 2008 12:16AM
Sigh.
BPM64 - The Second Attack! @ Jan 12th 2008 12:26AM
The product description and the Q&A are quite humourous.
gadgetdevil @ Jan 12th 2008 12:27AM
wow. why don't I go, buy some Ruffles, cut out a slice, and sell it on eBay.
Jansperus @ Jan 12th 2008 1:12AM
Don't you see? That wasn't cut or modified in any way! It is an unblemished chip in the image of Pacman! I'm definitely placing a bid. It might seem silly now, but it'll be worth thousands in a few years!
ThornedVenom @ Jan 12th 2008 12:59AM
Because you're plagiarizing artwork. D:
Mr.ESC @ Jan 12th 2008 1:24AM
When you're plagiarizing artwork you are supporting Communism!
Seriously who would pay thousands for that? In a few years it won’t look like Pac-man also that if the package is not deliver with extreme carefulness the poor sucka that buys it is going to receive crumbles.
StrangeBum @ Jan 12th 2008 2:09AM
Yeah, in a few years that won't look like pacman. Simply because in a few years, pacman will be redone next-gen (xbox720 style) to look like Commander Shepard with a large muscular torso and some insane vacuum gun (ala Luigi's Mansion) to chase the ghosts with. Duh!

That’s cool but what I meant is that in a few years unless is conserved in a bacteria-free storage unit it will be food for bacteria and other organisms not to mention fungus could grow on it.
ThornedVenom @ Jan 12th 2008 12:59AM
Sadly enough, this potato chip would have even more value if the seller claimed that you could see Jesus on it.
Mr.ESC @ Jan 12th 2008 1:28AM
Actually you can see Elvis AND Jesus if you flip the chip but the original owner didn't put that in the description because its auction would be lost in a sea of random stuff with the exact same image.
Aludra @ Jan 12th 2008 1:22AM
He'd get more selling the ruler.
Mr.ESC @ Jan 12th 2008 1:30AM
OMG I didn't notice until now but that the ruler resembles a piece of Tetris, I must get that.
StrangeBum @ Jan 12th 2008 2:19AM
Also, I didn't realize that pacman measured only roughly two inches. Poor little tyke, must be hungry, somebody get this chip some dots. The candy.
Conrad Quilty-Harper @ Jan 12th 2008 1:46AM
And he's not even the first...

Zarifus @ Jan 12th 2008 1:52AM
Omg, that post even says:
"but it definitely won't be somebody selling a Pac-man potato chip."
LIES!!!
BPM64 - The Second Attack! @ Jan 12th 2008 2:24AM
Hiya, Conrad. Haven't seen you around these parts in a while.
StrangeBum @ Jan 12th 2008 2:15AM
I once thought about selling an unmarked 'mystery' can of soda on eBay once. I'm sure some fool out there would pitch some money for me to send him a can of diet pepsi or something just for the 'what could it be?' factor.
eBay scams are almost too easy. Someone should start getting more creative with them.
Psaakyrn @ Jan 12th 2008 2:20AM
Too late, it's already a brand. :p

BPM64 - The Second Attack! @ Jan 12th 2008 2:27AM
That actually looks pretty cool. Too bad it's in Singapore only. :/
Maybe they'll strike a deal with an American company for distribution over here...
License to ill @ Jan 12th 2008 2:18AM
Any retard who bids on this shit should not be allowed to procreate...
BPM64 - The Second Attack! @ Jan 12th 2008 2:28AM
There are many worse reasons for people not being allowed to breed... But I guess this wouldn't hurt, either.
waynski1457 @ Jan 12th 2008 2:29AM
dont worry, any retard who bids on this probably hasnt and wont.
giantenemycrab @ Jan 12th 2008 2:34AM
How would he ship that without it breaking?
Psaakyrn @ Jan 12th 2008 3:16AM
In a bag of chips
playwhutyalike (kinda digs Manhunt 2) @ Jan 12th 2008 9:15AM
PACMAN!!!! Wake Up! Please wake up! You're not dead.........you're not dead......PLEASE....(cries softly)...
Eto @ Jan 12th 2008 10:02AM
The link to the Ebay auction is broken.
Ignatius @ Jan 12th 2008 10:18AM
...
Wakka wakka wakka wakka.
Ranko @ Jan 12th 2008 2:48PM
Moldy Chip Pac-Man FTW!
Cancerboy @ Jan 12th 2008 2:50PM
OMG what happened to Pacman's lower jaw? You all act like you don't see it. Was he in an accident? Attacked by a tiger?
Rob Accomando @ Jan 12th 2008 8:15PM
I'd be more impressed if there were ghosts and power pellets too.
vectorelement @ Jan 13th 2008 10:43PM
I've saved a blue M&M shaped like the Ocarina of Time. Just incase, because... well... you never know when you'll have to save Zelda.
...yeah
