Wow, the gameplay video looked exactly the same as every other soul calibur game.

And the intro looked tacky as hell.

I think that Soul Calibur Legends was just an announcement that the series is going to suck from now on.

Heh, not an apt comparison, the crossing of two hanna barbara properties vs crossing lucasfilm with Namco, but still funny.

Still, I find your lack of faith...disturbing. There is no reason to assume the worst outright, at least they have swords and not fruity transparent green glob weapons (yes I'm looking at you Necrid). I know some people associate Vader with Hayden Christiansen and all that, but to me its always going to be that looming, ominous figure from Star Wars and Empire, evil and so badass.

Plus we all know Lucas cribbed most of what makes Jedi cool from Samurai anyway, so its not as unnatural a pairing as some want to think. If you're willing to accept that Ivy's spine doesn't snap from the strain, or that nightmare hitting Talim full on with his sword doesn't cut her in half, having Mitsurugi block a lightsaber with his sword isn't really a stretch.

Right on man! It's bullshit that gaming sites are already calling this a disaster. Yes Star Wars had it's named tainted by Episodes I-III, but I have a feeling we are all going to forget about that.

Star Wars is about to get a video game reawakening. The Soul Calibur series has a pretty strong track record (save for the horrible Wii spin-off), and this one will be no different.

Plus the new Force Unleashed game is supposedly amazing.

Here's a wee preview from CES:

We're just sad because its more evidence that Lucas has made Star Wars jump the shark.

We don't care about star wars anymore, lucas. You've killed it for anyone over the age of 20.

I sure hope Ivy's bra is made of cortosis ore, or she'll get cut down to an A cup in no time.

I'm looking forward to it, even though I'm not really a fan of star wars... I don't know... something about flipping around my enemy as Yoda just gets me excited... (I like fast characters...:D) I mean c'mon, this makes just as much sense as the extra characters in SC 2.

I'm glad someone else is thinking this.
Remember Masters of Teras Kasi? All your lightsabers did was sort of *pound* on people, in the exact same manner as if you were pounding on them with a baseball bat.

As clumsy and random as a blaster, SCIV lightsaber combat IS.

In a game where despite negligible armour on many characters using mostly sharp-edged weaponary yet somehow stay bloodless, I don't think people are really paying attention to the naturally fatalistic traits of deadly weapons.

I don't understand all the people saying "This is the end of soul calibur" etc. Did you play the last game? There where Link, Heihachi, and Spawn! They didn't really fit into the game as well. I like seeing strange special characters making guest appearances.

Sure, but when you have a fantasy-themed fighting game, well... one thing is bringing a pointy-eared character from a fantasy-themed action-adventure game, and another thing is bringing a pointy-eared character from a long-time-ago-in-a-galaxy-far-far-away-themed movie.

I don't know... I guess it's our inner Star Wars Kid who makes us say that there's something just... not right, about this.
Maybe it's that, after a life of Star Wars, their physics have become law in our subconscious. Or maybe it's just looking at two of our most respected characters whoring themselves.

I know how stupid it is having yoda and darth vader in a soul calibur game, but this will be the first chance I know of to play as them in a good fighting game and that alone makes it cool to me.

Interesting, most people seem to be onboard. Calling it weird, but badass. But Joystiq doesn't seem to approve and frowns upon it. I think you're just you're dwelling on it too much. It's meant to be a goof, for fun. It's not canon in the SW universe.

What upsets me the most here is the potenial we have here for a kick ass Star Wars fighting game. Only they'd have to do is use the SCIV engine and replace it with SW characters and SW environments. Namco needs to team up with Lucasarts.

Agreed. They should just make a star wars fighter with all star wars characters using the SC engine. It would be cool to see Darth Maul with a dual-saber, or Old Obi-Wan vs Young Obi-Wan. And of course Luke Skywalker, that guy with 4 sabers, etc.

Wouldn't Vader just have to do the ol' force choke-hold on them and then it's "game over"?

I'm with Jack on this one, it'd be very dissapointing if Yoda is overpowered through that kind of cheapness, and online multi gets saturated with yoda players doing the same shtick.

But for now, gotta wait and see whether that even happens.
