[Original headline: "Wal-Mart offers $20 Smash Bros. Brawl pre-orders"]
We know, we know. This Wal-Mart listing for Super Smash Bros. Brawl pre-orders at the bargain price of $19.82 is almost certainly a technical error. But, if you're going to buy the game anyway, we figure there can't be any harm in putting your name and two sawbucks down. Worse case scenario, your order gets canceled. Best case: You save $30.
That said, there is yet a third possibility that's downright mind-blowing. What if this is the actual price? Can you imagine how that would (continue) to move systems? Can you imagine what a sales juggernaut that would be? Sure, the Wii may not need the extra help, but come on, let us have our fantasy until reality brings it crashing down around us, OK?
Update 1: Looks like Wal-Mart is running a major pre-order sale, which also includes reduced prices for upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 titles.
Update 2: Super Smash Bros. pre-order price has been changed to $49.82.
[Thanks, Dalibor]

I just got off with customer service (i found another number on their website) and they told me what we all know and that was that all the orders have been canceled. I asked why they wouldnt honor the price since it was what was advertised and they said since it wasn't shipped yet and i haven't been charged I technically haven't bought anything yet. This is such a crock...

Reminds me of when Best Buy had RE4 accidentally listed at $20, before its release. A few people said they had luck getting the game for that price, not me though.

I spoke to walmart and they said that if enough of us complain about this problem we may be awarded a voucher or store credit for their incompetence. Or maybe they will be so inundated with complaints that there will pass a point where its cheaper for them to honor their mistake than to hire lawyers to defend the complaints. But I can only do it with your help.
So I filled complaints with both the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.
FTC: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/index.shtml
BBB: https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/GetStarted.aspx
The address for walmart customer service (needed to fill out the complaint forms) is
Walmart Customer Service
7000 Marian Blvd
Brisbane, CA 94005
Phone: 18009666546
So please, joystick editors, post some info about this so that more people could file complaints against the company so that our broken hearts may be patched up.

yeah....so they canceled my order...not only that, WALMART implied that I REQUESTED to cancel my order. It'd be one thing to say they can't fill the order, but it's another to make it seem like I was the one who wanted the order canceled.

granted, I pretty much assumed that they WOULD cancel the order, but still--why must they blame the consumer for THEIR mistake?? they couldn't just send an email stating their list policy concerning pricing errors, etc and offer to cancel my order or fulfill it at the new price??

This was nothing more than a calculated move to get some free advertising, nothing more. Congratulations on being the cancer that helps a very large corporation like Wal-Mart grow even bigger.

Yeah, I got the same, they said I requested to cancel my order. I figured this would happen. Went through the same thing when Best Buy did pre-orders of the Rock Band Bundle for 60 bucks. Only I wasted hours on the phone with that one, cause some lackey said they would honor it, which they of course didn't.
So although these deals are worth a try. I encourage people not to waste their time trying to complain about it. Legally they are within their rights because of their clause about mispricing items.

Does anyone know if they honored the deals on Devil May Cry or Burnout Paradise? I missed those ones while I ordered 4 copies of Smash Bros.

What about truth in advertising, if you went in to a store and saw an item with a price tag that read "$20.00" then that is what you would pay at th cash. I'm pissed that as a new customer to walmart they were able to collect all my information under the guise of a sale and then dump that sale.
I'm furious and think we should launch a class action lawsuit. Is anyone here a lawyer with an ax to grind?

newest email--they apologize for saying that I canceled the order...yay!
Dear Valued Customer,
We apologize the email you received stating you, the customer, had
requested your order to be canceled. Due to a site pricing error on the
website, your order was canceled by Walmart.com. The website has been
updated to reflect the correct price and items are now available for
purchasing.
Under Walmart.com's Terms and Conditions/Order Acceptance, the site
states: blah blah blah...what's already posted in the comments by other people.

I got my order canceled as well, plus when I called to complain I got an infuriating "Enter your PIN" recorded message. It's bull! If a retail store posted the wrong price, they would eat the difference.
I did look into canceling an order at some point and it's damn near impossible for the consumer to cancel the order.

I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. What they did was unlawful and fraudulent, they, by law (Truth in Advertising Act), must honor the price that they set, even if incorrect. I have been advised that I should also contact the Attorney General's Office regarding this issue, but am debating whether to take it that far...

I suggest you look into fraud a bit. That’s a strong claim to make. Your legal theories here are very weak. The Truth in Advertising Act is not here to punish small errors in pricing, it’s for deceptive practices. Fraud takes someone making a misrepresentation in order to deceive you. They didn’t do that. They made a mistake and they tried to eliminate damage by cancelling the orders, therefore there is no detriment suffered by you.
Anyway, http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/ad-faqs.shtm should have been the first place you looked at.
Don't go off on legal tangents and accusing people of fraud so quickly.

Complaints filed with the FTC and the BBB. I also sent order fulfillments an email as well telling them that I wasn't upset about the fact that the order was cancelled, but rather that they sent me emails making it appear that I had requested to have my order cancelled, which was a flat out lie.

I got the order cancellation email too. Weird how they made it sound like I cancelled it myself. Pretty weak for them to dodge that they were the ones breaking the deal.

In case anyone is still reading, they did charge me briefly and then un-charged me. I'm sure that was just part of some automated can he pay validation. However, I did not receive an email. My coworker did receive an email though. Weird. I probably will not pursue this. It would have been nice but it's not worth any more of my time.

Why are people so offended by the e-mail Wal-Mart is sending? I'm sure the moment any order gets canceled, regardless of whether it is on the customer or seller side, they just automatically send out the same form e-mail. Because most of the time cancellations are probably initiated by customers, the e-mail is written for such cancellations. It might be bad customer service to send a form e-mail that's inaccurate, but I highly doubt Wal-Mart is trying to pull a fast one on you. "Oh, the e-mail said I canceled the order. It must be right, because why would an e-mail contain inaccurate information?"

They just sent me a $10 online giftcard for the debacle, though I can't see them sending these out en mass, it was still something nice they did considering I only ordered the one game really early in the morning, not even knowing it was a whole big thing until later in the day.
