The folks behind RPG-TV commissioned a short cartoon animation as a parody of the Cadbury Phil Collins Gorilla (original video after the break, for those confused). We enjoy anything that reminds us of Phil Collins, animals playing instruments and Rock Band, but we're a bit bummed to see no use of the kick drum, essential for the song.
We're trying a different voting system today, which has the unfortunate side effect of not allowing for embedded links in the choices. So here are our picks for the week's best game-related webcomics:
The reason I suggest this is because the Comic links at the top and the Comic poll beneath it are not in the same order in relation to each other. Having the comic and title together is more convenient and assures the voter picks the right comic.
I think it would be very handy for me to be able to see a thumbnail of each comic next to the voting. Sometimes there are like 12 comics, and by the time I finish, I can't remember most of them well enough to decide my favorite. If I had some kind of thumbnail, I could just glance down and be like "oh yeah, I did like number 4 best."
And the folks from RPG-TV should get their money back: the quality is really poor. The right-hand is fucked up, and his foot isn't even tapping the pedal.
As an amateur animator myself that does the odd job for moneys, I hope to god they didn't pay more then a tenner for that tweened heap of shit! I could pull that out of my arse in under an hour!
"Tweened" implies that they actually drew some keyframes. This just looks like a cut up paper doll, South Park style. Oh god, those arms give me nightmares. And what's with his torso bouncing up and down? I know what that's supposed to look like, but it doesn't.
As an aspiring 2d animator, I too found that flash "animation" to be pretty weak. The drum sticks weren't even in the correct perspective! Nor did the hands look like they were even holding them. And the chest moved independently from the arms... ehg.. I found the animation itself more disappointing than the joke. That better have been for free.
Wow, that was full of win. http://www.thebackalleys.com/go/ This should be submitted for next week's comic wrapup. Not a comic, but there are some references in there.
Poisoned al: Yeah, I guess the word doesn't necessarily imply hand-drawn keyframes, now that I think about it. Oh well, but we can agree this looks... frightening. :(
The only remotely logical reason why some must be voting for the PA cartoon is nothing more than a 'Beavis & Butthead'-esque reaction to the inclusion of the word 'nipples'. It damn sure can't be because of any actual humor involved.
The new format is a mistake. Instead of scrolling through as usual and enjoying weekly webcomic wrapups as they come, I have to click through - which wouldn't be such a disjointed experience compared to before if you didn't also separate the links from the voting. This last part is terrible. It's enough that I have to re-open some of the links to remind myself of how the link relates to the subject line, now I have to play a matching game with the titles I ignore in the first place? Consider for a moment how much of your readership is borderline ADD while they're vegging out on your site.
The new WWW format detracts from usability, makes voting less intuitive, and feels like a MySpace-inspired ploy to increase raw page loads and push more ad content. I see no pros to balance against the cons. Kill it.
i was about to cry foul at the DU for being just like mondays CAD but it was also on monday so yea...
im 50/50 on the new voting format. 1: i like how it works better but 2: the lack of correspondence between the lists threw me off for a second. if it stays tho, im sure to get used to it. and who am i to complain anyway, i dont run the site.
I'm sorry some of you guys didn't like the animation. A friend of ours did it and he'd never used flash before in his life so I think he did a pretty good job all told.
