Custom firmware 3.80 released by Dark_Alex

Homebrew users will rejoice at the release of the newest version of M33. The newest release promises to have most functionality of Sony's latest firmware release, but also gives users the ability to launch homebrew applications and mods. A big new feature in this release is the ability to use a Network Update-styled interface to automatically upgrade to later versions of this CFW. To download the update, and get instructions on how to use the program, visit Dark_Alex's website now.

You will need to download firmware 3.80 from Sony's official website in order to use this installer. Please note that use of any hacks to your system will void its warranty. Do not attempt installing custom firmware without carefully reading all instructions. This update will not work on PSPs with official firmware.

hey folks, i currently have a fat PSP with 3.80 OFW, no i'm not going to be stupid and ask how to downgrade, i have a pandora-able battery coming in the post which i'm to hard mod with a switch, i looked at going to CFW when i was running 2.72 but at that stage there was no downgrader and when pandora finally came out i couldn't find anyone with a CFW or 1.5 OFW fat that i could borrow for a day or so, but now i'm officially joining the unnoficcial bandwagon of homebrewers and i'm looking forward to writing my verry own PSP apps

so, there isnt one possible way to get CFW on your psp without a pandora's battery? this sux like hell. i just want to play those free games:(

my bro updated my psp to 3.93(idiot) so is it still possible for me to get cfw. i wanted it for like ever.

You could always use Pandora's battery to unbrick it.

Yeah, thankfully the pandora battery method is also a bad flash recovery method.
I must've bricked my new psp slim three times before my flash to 3.71m33 was successful (few weeks ago).

These weren't problems with the pandora method (battery hard-mod) or the firmware... it was something different (and way too complicated) that y'all normally woulnd't have to deal with.

If you don't want to deal with making your own pandora battery, you can always buy a Datel Tool battery (if you're a tool :D)

I just up graded to 3.80 m33 just now. It went pretty fast and its easy to do. YEAHHHHHHH! now i can do remote play from work and start my demos on thursdays so they'll be done when I get home. Hell yeah. M33 is the best. I need to send them some money for all the hard work.

And what kept you from doing so using the official firmware?

They need to create a way to get this without a pandora battery :l

Datel has a pre-Pandora'd battery, and you can make the memory stick easily yourself.

I'm getting the 3.80 update, silly me for only putting DaX's app on my PSP!

I tell ya, without CFW I wouldn't have a PSP. Emulators, multidisc POPs and Cave Story melt my world away.

Can you link to a step by step guide on how to upgrade? A freind got me CFW so I've never actually done it myself.

Yes, but if Sony are only gong to add features to PSP Slim, like Skype, then now is the perfect time to go to Homebrew like me.

yes... if you are running Official FW from sony you need to downgrade first then install this. If you've never used Custom Firmware you need to downgrade first.

People need to read comments. You need a Pandora battery to install a CFW. It's easy enough that I, coming from no PSP background at all managed to install a CFW using a fat PSP to a brand new slim PSP in the space of 30 minutes.

So is this guys site down? I can't get to it.

What if I format my PSP, will that bring it back to a previous firmware?

Surprisingly enough, I used to have CFW then I decided to go back to the OFW, dunno why :S...I guess it's cause I'm considering buying a PS3 and would like to have the latest updates fast + all I do on my PSP is play games, so I always buy originals to keep the devs motivated...

I buy the games too, but you can't argue with the convenience and performance benefits of ripping your own UMD's and running from a Memory Stick.

I buy originals too. The PSP hacker guys laughed at me for that, hell at least I'm supporting the devs!
CFW is just too good when you set UMD games to run at the full 333mhz. Out goes lag (and battery life).

Thanks to all you brilliant hackers. I wouldn't have bought a PSP if it weren't for all the possibilities. My favorite is the ScummVM engine. I love playing Monkey Island and Sam & Max on my portable.

i have firmware 3.80 can i install the custom one i tryed it but it dont work the M33 one sayd that i have 3.80 and dont need to update and the M33-2 one say the game could not be played pls help

The only way for you to get to custom firmware is to use Pandora's battery + memstick. Get a friend that is already on CFW to make it for you.

Has anyone be able to get remote play to work? I hooked the PSP up to the PS3 and registered the device and when i go to remote play to connect it just times out.

You know, I have never used CFW but I would really like to hop on it now, it seems the only way I can unlock my PSP's potential is by using homebrew. Im running on the latest OFW from sony, and I see this, so can anyone link me, or help me to upgrade to homebrew? It would be much appreciated...

Iwish someone will come up with a music app that will go well with the psp something like the ipod touch interface with album art covering the whole screen that would be nice.

my psp s a fat 3.80 firmware that i got from the official sony site....how can i use the custom firmware 3.80 M33 from dark alex? is it possible? or theres a great chance of bricking my psp?? please help me!!!!!

Has anyone been able to get the Remote play to work with this? Mine won't connect with the PS3 and I've done everything the manual says to do. I've gotten it to work before along time ago before 2.10 for the PS3. Now it just times out or it says the PS3 can not be found. Even after the PS3 shows the PSP being registered to it.
